Let's Be Peeping Toms

This past Tuesday Jennifer Jo over at Mama's Minutia wrote a blog post entitled, "The Morning Kitchen," in which she included a picture of her kitchen. But the unique twist to this was that the picture was taken from outside her house looking in.

Have you ever driven through a town at night just after it's gotten dark and everyone has turned on their inside lights? I love the sneak peek it gives me into the different homes. (Does that make me a bad person?) To me it always imparts a soft, warm, cozy feel to the homes . . . and yet it's seldom that we catch a glimpse of our own homes in that way.

Jennifer Jo's blog and picture intrigued me so much that I went outside on the front deck this morning and snapped this picture of my own morning kitchen.

I didn't manage to get the lovely, ethereal look to my picture as Jennifer did. Maybe we're short on etherealness around here . . . or maybe she already had a pot of something wonderful simmering on the stove that fogged up her windows.

Anyway, I'm sending out this challenge to all of you. Join me (and Jennifer Jo) in the TBHPTPP Club. (The Blogger's Harmless Peeping Tom Picture Post Club.) Take a picture of your own morning kitchen (from the outside looking in) and post it on your blog.

I double-dog dare ya.

Oh-this is the NEATEST idea!!
And wow-love your kitchen.
Now, how do I get my own kitchen, which from outside is too high to see into????
Hubby-drag out that ladder!

Yours looks great from the outside! Very cozy! I love this idea, I will try this but am not sure how it would look since my front window IS and immediate view to my galley kitchen - might be too close up but we will find out !

Sue - What you see in my pic is my tiny kitchen and half of my livingroom! To have gotten just a straight shot of kitchen only I would have had to drag a ladder out into a flower bed and climb up the ladder to stand with my head in a maple tree! So I understand your dilemma of having to get up on a ladder to get the shot into your kitchen. Any neighbors close enough to see your antics and wonder what the heck you're up to? ('Course, it shouldn't be light when you're doing it so you can hide under the cover of darkness!)

Erin - Can you stand back a little farther and see it as someone driving by might? No matter, just do it! :o) I so wanted mine to look as fuzzy warm as Jennifer's, but couldn't figure out how to do it. (I'm not much of a photographer as you can tell!)

"Maybe we're short on etherealness around here..." HA! That's a REALLY good one, Mama Pea. Reeeeally good.

My windows were fogged up because it was foggy outside. Period. (Though people do say the Shenandoah mountains are rather heavenly...)

And I love your kitchen/table/reading nook! I had no idea your kitchen looked like that!

I, too, love to look in people's windows, so I highly affirm your new challenge.

I always loved seeing in windows at Christmas time. The lights from the tree makes everyones home so warm and inviting.

JJ - Thanks for the kind words and for letting me steal a cool idea from you! (Just plain old fog, huh?)

Jane - Yes! How can you beat Christmas time with all the colorful lights?

Now I want to come over for coffee and squash pie!

I don't think peeping is bad in the sense you described at least, human nature.

I will have to clean my window and figure out the angle and join the fun!

APG - Oh, does coffee and squash pie sound good right now. The pie with whipped cream, right? But BAAAD thoughts for me as I'm on my third day (yes, I've made it all the way into a third day . . . wow) of absolutely no desserts/cookies/snacks/chips or eating in between meals. So far it hasn't been too bad. But you can come over and I'll gladly serve you the pie!!

Can't wait to see your picture!

If people leave their curtains open, they are practically inviting you to take a peek inside :)

I can't take a picture of my kitchen from outside because the only outside windows are over a four story drop! You'll just have to believe me when I say it's always neat as a pin and filled with the scent of freshly baked bread. Right.

I'd have to stand in the neighbours yard to take a picture in my kitchen window and their dog would eat me alive if I did!
I love seeing everyone elses pictures though. They looks so cozy and warm.

Jen - I'm sorry. Just because you're four stories up is no excuse. Let's see, if you went up to the fifth story and someone lowered you down in a rope harness . . .

I know your son would volunteer as photographer if you didn't want to do it!

Sparkless - Boy, just no sense of adventure in you gals! ;o)

:( My kitchen is in the center of my house - no windows - we built an addition on the back of the house. I do love to walk at night and look into the windows of houses. I have no desire to know what the people are doing I'm just interested in what the inside looks like. The soft lights always make everything look so cozy and warm.

All right, but, if I fall off the ladder I will need to stand on to see in my window, who's going to come do all my chores??? I will give it a shot, so to speak.

Mama Pea said...

Judy - And you're not willing to knock a hole in the wall so you can stand on the other side and shoot into your kitchen, eh? ;o)

Susan - It's remarkable to realize how many of us have kitchen windows "high up!" If I hadn't had the deck to stand on, I wouldn't have been able to see in my kitchen without a ladder either.

Now be careful. I'm going to be really mad if you fall!
