The Squash

Well, I think we can say that the squash are no longer getting any sustenance from the squash vines.

Now the only thing to find out with this bountiful harvest of squash is if they are ripened enough for human consumption.

I haven't checked yet. I'm afraid.

They should be fine. If not that is what they make spices for.

If they aren't edible, you can always use them as seasonal decoration. That's the best use for squash anyway :)

They just HAVE to be edible. By something...;0)

Apple Pie Gal - Yup, others have thought they we pumpkins, too, but that's what the Red Kuri Squash look like. Supposedly (if they're ripe!) these make excellent "pumpkin" pies.

jane - Now you're a gal who obviously knows how make something work! ;o)

Jen - Stop it! Squash are deelish! (If they're ripe. Sigh.) I have two inside as decorations right now. And between daughter and me, if they are inedible, we'll use them as pretend-pumpkins for decoration all over. (There are at least 25 of them.)

Susan - Well, I know the geese will eat them. They'll eat any veggie from the garden!

Erin - Me too, me too, me too!

Patty - Oh, I hope so!

What kind are they? Will they store through the winter for you? Looks like a wonderful crop. :)

They look so good! I know you'll enjoy them a bunch.

Kelly - They are Red Kuri . . . my very favorite. If they are mature, they'll store for a few months in a cool, dry environment. On the floor of our bedroom closet works pretty good for us. IF by chance they are mature when I check them (will do so one of these days soon), because there are over 25 (and they're BIG) of them, I'll give some away, keep some for storage and eating, and cook some up as they're supposed to be good for pumpkin pies and such although I've never had enough to use that way before.

Leigh - Let's just hope looks aren't deceiving!
