The Construction Crew of Two

After the heavy rain last night and super-saturated wet air, we had dense fog first thing this morning. But it soon burned off and we had another sunny day (yay!), very pleasant as it wasn't quite as warm as yesterday. A good day for getting out and doing what needed to be done.

Hubby worked on soffits on the outside of the pantry addition which took much more time than estimated (so what's new?) because of having to do some jury-rigging.

I finished the insulating inside and got the Reflectix up over that.

A late afternoon run to the lumber yard to pick up foam insulation for the pantry ceiling (while I stayed home to do a HUGE batch of dishes) will insure we don't run out of work for tomorrow. (Ha-ha-ha.)

It was a day with lots of short interruptions which always kinda slows down the flow of the work. But still a great day to be doing outside work. And most importantly, a little more progress.

Hi, Stephanie - The construction pictures aren't boring everyone to tears? I have hesitated posting and blogging about same so it's really nice to get your feedback. Thanks.

Hey, Jo - So why in the world did we stop including a pantry as an integral part of the kitchen? Was it when we stopped doing so much cooking from scratch and home canning? Would be interesting to research that out. I just know I've always coveted the thought of having one! How much easier to step into your pantry and grab something off an open shelf than getting down and pulling it from the back of a bottom shelf inside a kitchen cupboard!

Thank you, too, for the encouraging word on the construction pics.

I love the photos, but I am a "chronic remodeler" so I love a good project! We didn't have a pantry growing up but mom had a massive big square kitchen with mudroom and lots of cabinets in the mudroom that stayed nice and cool! Funny, the 2 "must haves" in my next house are a mudroom and pantry - so important in fact that if it had no bedroom I could look the other way and just sleep in the pantry LOL

Hey, Erin - That is so funny because yesterday when hubby and I were both standing in the "pantry" he said, "This would make a decent bedroom." I laughed out loud since I had JUST been thinking that it was about the size room that a cook would have slept in off the kitchen in a manor house of yesteryear! And I was fantasizing wondering if I could hire a cook, she could sleep on a cot in there and still have room for the pantry stuff! (I think I'm workin' too hard.)

Hi, Katie - Filling up the pantry will be the easy, fun part! Just think how much fun it will be to fill your new studio!!

Our 1912 farmhouse DID have a pantry, but the last owner converted it into a second bath/laundry room. A grand-niece of the original owners, who visited the house when she was a young girl, has told me that the cupboards in the old pantry were gorgeous. Arggh.

Hey, Jo - Oh, sadness and woe! To have that pantry with the beautiful cabinetry now, huh?
