Rainy Day

We woke to a lovely, steady rain falling this morning. Looks like it may be an all-day-er.

I know you can't see the rain falling but, trust me, it's coming down steadily. Our full-out greenery is starting to look a little blowsy now . . . not very tidy but rather tired. Won't be but a couple more weeks before the leaves start turning color in earnest and slipping from the trees.

This is the second morning in a row that we've made a small fire in the wood stove. Yesterday, it was downright chilly in the house as the temps have been dropping into the 40s at night. Today it didn't feel so cool, but the rain just seemed to call for a bit of snap, crackle and pop cheeriness.

But this is all good. It's been an intense summer, and we've been lacking moisture for quite a while. I tried to pull some weeds in the garden yesterday, and it was as if they were embedded in well set up concrete.

I pushed yesterday afternoon to get beans picked to send home with my daughter and also got a few blueberries from our domestic bushes. Only got about three cups but enough, I think, to make a very special pie. Check back tomorrow as I plan on posting pics along with the recipe.

Now somebody convince me I really shouldn't go out into the rain to do those town errands I was going to do very first thing this morning. What? Did I hear you say I should stay home and bake oatmeal cookies instead? Well, okay. It was a difficult decision on my part, but because you suggested it, I'll do it.

Blue berry pie (his ears perk up) and homemade cookies on a wet, cool morning (his mouth begins to water, drool flows down his chin and dribbles onto his shirt). Really? "It must be Jesus," he thinks, "for surely I'm in heaven." (Hears harps playing in the distance).

Hhhmmm...supposed to dip into the 40's down here this weekend, too. Maybe I had better whip up one last batch of homemade custard ice cream? "What if," he wonders, eyes all agoogle and heart racing; he is certain that he might be onto something, "what if I can convince wifey to bake up one of her famous apple pies to go along with that ice cream?"

Mama Pea...I think I found out why you and I have a little problem with lingering adipose tissue and I'm not sure it has a whole lot to do with our ages. But, as my uncle used to say, "I'm on a diet...yep, I am gonna die with it!"

Pictures of the pie and cookies, please;)

Mom, I know it took time away from your day yesterday, but I enjoyed the time you spent with me & the peanut (I nanny) SOOOOO much! Thanks for doing that.

Anonymous - Homemade ice cream with homemade apple pie? Doesn't get much better than that. Now I'm drooling.

Chicken Mama - You know I enjoyed our "adventures" yesterday, too. (Let's not broadcast EVERYTHING that happened, okay? I might win a Stoopid Award.) And I don't know when I've laughed so much as when we were trying to teach the peanut how to lick her first ice cream cone. You have GOT to post some of the pictures or the video you took of that.

Not cool enough here for a fire yet, but definitely cool enough for cookie baking! I tried out a new chocolate chip recipe the other day and got rave reviews from the guys at work!
