Winter Wood Progress

We ended last heating season with just one full tier of dry firewood at the very back of one of our wood sheds. (Whew.) When you rely on wood for your warmth and safety in the wintertime, that creates an uneasy feeling.

I blogged earlier this spring about buying twelve cords of maple in eight foot lengths that we had delivered to our back yard area.

You can see, that be one heckuva lot of wood to work up. Fortunate for us, I guess you could say, both Roy and I enjoy being out-of-doors and the physical workout cutting, splitting and stacking firewood gives us.

Most of the work falls to Roy as he does all of the chainsaw cutting. I help with the splitting and stacking which we do together. Since spring, we haven't spent any whole days working on the task, but we do try to do a little each day. (This plan doesn't always work since other things seem to frequently get in the way but at least we TRY to work on it every day.)

This is what the pile looked like this past Monday. We've gotten a few more hours in on it since then (Roy worked about four hours cutting yesterday) so you can see we are gaining on it and the end is in sight. Do you know what my crazy husband says he's gonna do when we finish the very last of it? Order some more to have sitting there. He says he won't feel he has to cut any more this summer, but it will be there and waiting when he gets a hankering for some more brutal, hot, sweaty, physically taxing work in the sun. Whadda guy. Ya gotta love him.

Wow. I don't know exactly what Cioara said, there, but I see words that look like "interesting subject," so I think it's good!

Me, well...I am wondering if you AND YOUR HUSBAND would enjoy a trip to Maine? We have a woodpile we'd like you to meet... ;-)

(I am feeling a bit silly and giddy this morning, as the sun has FINALLY come out. Everything's still soggy and boggy and froggy, but steam is rising and birds are singing!)

Cioara - Sorry to admit I'm not able to read your comment because of the language barrier. But thanks for stopping by.

MaineCelt - So you think we should hang out a shingle? - "Have chainsaw, will travel." Hmmm, might be interesting!

Hooray for your sunshine! I was just looking at pics of my garden from last year at this time and bemoaning how sad this year's looks in comparison but then I remember that there are regions in our country that are suffering much more adverse conditions (like yours!) than we are.

Hang in there. If your sun will just stay out, everything will be lush and vibrant and DRY in no time.

Wow! You two have accomplished a lot on that wood pile--way to go!
I'm jealous of your nice assortment of wheeled carts too!

Ruthie - Over the years we've amassed three wheelbarrows and two garden carts. (The smaller one isn't in this picture.) And do you know, we use all of them constantly! Don't know how people function with just one little wheelbarrow.
