Everybody Doesn't Eat On A Quilt?

This morning I found a comment from my daughter on my blog post of yesterday. It said, "Mom, you should explain to everyone why you display your foodstuffs on a "quilt!”

Wha . . . ? Huh? I read the comment again. And once more. Just as I was starting to think that one of us (probably me) had finally gone off the edge, it dawned on me what she meant.

I frequently have a quilted tablecloth on our table. And when I take pictures as illustration for a blog about food or a recipe, I sometimes set the dish or finished product on the table (with quilted tablecloth covering it) to take the picture. It never occurred to me that anyone would think I regularly set our food on a bed, or couch, or nap time quilt! ("Oh, don't mind the apple pie on the quilt on the couch there. Just push it out of your way and sit down.")

So, you ask, doesn't a quilted tablecloth get dirty, messed-up, slopped on? Oh, ya. But it's also very washable. And this one does have a stain on it. Right in the middle of one of the white (of course!) squares where I dropped a blob of salsa. But, hey, things that you enjoy having in your home and using are meant to be . . . well, enjoyed and used!

Have been enjoying your garden pictures for awhile, but just had to tell you "I love the quilt!!" It looks so welcoming at the table. I miss MN....!

I love your quilted "tablecloth" Mama Pea. My cat would also love it if I put something like that on our table.

Erin - Thanks for "coming out of the closet" and commenting! And thanks for the nice words.

Your gardens are UNBELIEVABLE. Come on now, confess. You have two full-time gardeners (besides yourself) working for you, right? Your gardens look like they should be part of a large estate with a head gardener and under gardener in charge of them. I'm so impressed. (And will never post another picture of my garden again.)

To think you've put all that work in on a place that you'll possibly have to leave. I admire you . . . and feel sufficiently kicked-in-the-butt enough to be inspired do better.

Hope you make it back to MN someday.

Hi, Ruthie - Thank you! I feel it's only right that you put a nice quilted tablecloth on your table to make it a little more comfy for the cat.

What a great idea, I have been thinking I should try quilting but wasn't sure were too start. Now I think I will start by making a quilt for our kitchen table. I am very sure our cats will appreciate it no end, and it will look so homely if I can keep it from being completely fur covered!

Hi, Heidi - When you make your quilted tablecloth, use a very thin batting so it drapes nicely and lays flat. If you use a high loft batting, it will be too poofy and glasses will tend to tip over. Not good!

I had no idea so many cats would be thrilled with a quilted tablecloth!

You are too kind! Yes, I employ a 6 & 4 year old...ssshhh...don't want the child labor law people finding out! Seriously, we have a big yard but we own a duplex and live in one side (only 1000 ft sq!) and rent the other, so I am always dreaming of not having to deal with the whole "tenant thing" and moving to a "real house"! Until then, the rental income lets me be a stay at home mom and gardener, which is worth it - most days, lol!
