Post Blizzard Report

Because of all the drifting, it's hard to accurately judge just how much snow we got out of the weekend blizzard. If no one holds me to it, I'll guess around 8 or 9". Areas farther south of us definitely got more and major roads were closed because of the drifting.

I took some "before the storm" pictures to compare with ones I took this morning. Again, because of the high winds, some areas don't even look like they were snowed upon at all.

This is a bird bath in our back yard that we keep sunflower seeds in for the winter.

Same shot, some snow build-up can be seen.

My trusty little Toyota Tercel parked up against the north side of the house before the storm.

Obviously, it was in a fairly protected spot.

I hiked out into the front yard to show how the house looked before the snow.

Can't tell all that much difference from the first picture, can you? The wind has blown some snow off the roof, and there's snow accumulation on the window boxes.

I do love how the window boxes look piled high with snow.

I think it gives such a cozy feel to the windows, maybe more so when you're on the inside looking out!

Before bed last night, the snow had stopped so I went out and shoveled the deck clear. The snow you see here is totally from the wind and drifting.

The drift was almost 2' high. You can see sunflower seeds scattered in the drift by the winds that blew them right out of the feeders.

And last, a shot of the back door . . . just because I thought it looked so wintery and festive.

Now we have to batten down the hatches and prepare for the frigid, Arctic air that is headed our way. Only -5 this morning but a forecast of closer to -20 tonight with a wind chill of -35. Br-r-r-r.

The snow blows over the roof of the house and drifts on our deck just like that! We're getting some snow this afternoon and it's finally above zero and the wind's died down. Pretty nice out now!

Ruthie - Our temps are in the deep freeze (-16 this morning and supposed to be colder tonight) and are forecast to stay that way for the rest of the week.

My daughter said I shouldn't have posted the before and after pictures because you couldn't see any snow accumulation! True as that might have been, we still had to shovel a lot of snow in the yard and remove a lot of it from the driveway. That's wind for ya!
