Thanks For Caring

It's undeniable that the calendar proves I haven't put up a new blog post in over a month now.

I've been truly touched by the concern for my well-being by you dear readers.  I'm glad to say that my well-being is intact, but I have definitely lost my blogging mojo.  It's gone, disappeared entirely.  Where or why, I cannot figure out.

Do I have writers' block?  Or the fear of posting boring fodder that's of interest to no one?  Is it rebellion against the time that sitting and using modern technology takes from actively living in (what used to be) a more personally interactive way?  Do I suffer from the inability to intelligently  share my thoughts and pictures in a post?

Yes, to all of the above.

My daughter has more than once said, "You should write about that on your blog, Mom."  Huhn.  Each time, I realize to do so has simply never entered my mind, nor can I summon up the will to do it even with her gentle persuasion.

I'm not throwing in the towel and deciding to never blog again.  But how long it will take to unscramble what's going on (or not going on) in my head is up in the air.

In the meantime, know a couple of things:  1)  All of us are alive and well while continuing to live our much appreciated lives making repairs, doing maintenance and creating improvements here on our little homestead while having taken time for some new mini-adventures and recreational outings during this past gorgeous fall season, and very importantly, 2) I want to say it warms the cockles of my heart knowing my posts have been missed by those of you who have communicated with me.  Thank you so much.

  3. Mama Pea, it's so good to get a blog post from you! Even just once in awhile is a treat.

I can relate to what you're saying about your blogging mojo. I've been feeling the same way and have cut back on blog posts. I now spend more time weaving and sewing! But I blog about that elsewhere, so I reckon I'm not really blogging less, I'm just have more to say about creative pursuits. Didn't you used to have a quilting blog? Or am I imagining it? I'd love to read more about that (if it strikes your blogging fancy).

  4. I know how you feel. Now that my garden chores are over I have a lot less to blog about. But sometimes its nice just to put up an interesting picture of something I've seen out the window or on the internet, or in a book to let people know I'm still here. I tell myself I don't have to write anything long. Just a little blip to mark time. And I enjoy that quite a bit

  6. Hi Mama it is the problem child! So glad to know life goes on and fun is had. I think I know your feelings as Leigh put it so well. I hope that I can post more if only in words. I love hearing from you whenever you can spare a nugget of fun, wisdom and love. Looking forward to any nuggets you can toss our way!

  7. Glad to know y’all are ok. I have missed reading your blog!

Thanksgiving is coming. What’s on your menu? I’m actually having seven, or more, people this year so I need to buy a whole turkey instead of just a turkey breast. I haven’t cooked a full bird in years and I’m more than a little nervous. I’m trying to organize a menu that won’t have me running around like the headless turkey 🤣 I did a test run of some pumpkin bars (from Budget Bytes blog) and I’ll probably make an apple pie. Do you have any suggestions for sides and such? I’ll have to make stuffing outside of the bird so there’s enough and, of course, mashed potatoes. I’ve got gravy nailed with Michael Symon’s make ahead gravy recipe from The Chew.

Thanks and take care, Katie C.

  8. So::: I just wrote an eloquent response. It was fantastic. Google froze it out and I lost it. Crap!

To summarize: Don't quit; go slow. Keep us in the link; we love the news. Life is a sonofagun, then you die. Put that off as long as possible.

Slow is OK. Life is like that sometimes.

    Cheers,

    TBI

  9. I would be worried about you but for the #1 in the last paragraph. Sounds like you are living life, doing work and having some fun. Yes, I'd love to hear about it but am having enough difficulty making time to update my own blog so I can't whine too loud!

  10. Autumn is a crazy busy time of year for homesteaders. Everything has to be done at once before the snow flies and the ground freezes. It is triage for repairs, food stocking, animal care, you name it. Right now I can barely read a newspaper or a blog because I'm so busy...and tired. I can't even imagine how you can write a blog with everything else you've got to do. We all understand...Give yourself lots of grace. You deserve it.--M

  11. gz - Yep, busy and perhaps needing to charge some brain cells!

Rosalea - Thinking of you, too, and all is well!

Leigh - So, so happy to hear you've finally gotten time for your weaving and sewing! It's been a long time coming. Yes, I did have a "quilting" blog but found I didn't have enough time TO QUILT so gave it up! (Frustrating.) I'm glad to say that I've been making time lately to spend in my quilt room (yeah, the toilet needs cleaning, so what?) and it feels soooo good!

    SmartAlex - Very good advice!

Nancy - The forecast tells us we'll have a warmer and drier winter this year. Stay tuned . . . Personally, I'd like to see a sufficient amount of snow but I guess that doesn't come with "drier!"

Goatldi - You've been such a sweetie in gently coaxing me (did you know you've been doing that?) out of my non-posting funk. Maybe slowly, but your words have helped.

Katie C. - My gobbler is in the freezer and ready for the big day when needed. I make a bigger than necessary bird every year because I can do so much with the leftover meat. And, of course, I make gallons of broth from the carcass, neck, skin, etc. I think squash is an appropriate side dish, but find not many people are as crazy about it as I am. I also like something on the cold side as contrast. Like a fruit salad maybe. And cranberry sauce that is chilled. Don't be afraid of that whole turkey. Just make sure to give it AMPLE time in the oven. In a covered pan it will stay hot on the counter for a long time if you have to pull it out early.

Tim - You lost your fantastic, eloquent reply??! Da*n! I feel cheated. ;o)

Michelle - There is never enough time in a day, is there!

M - Yep, I avoid admitting that I'm "tired" because that makes me feel lazy. Ha! I'm so lazy that when I sit down on the couch to read or do handwork last thing at night for a short time, I fall asleep sitting up! Honestly, it happens every single night. Not great for making it through a book or having a pair of knitted socks come out right. ;o)
