Fresh Air and Quilting Time

Last Sunday our temp topped out around 43° with lots of sunshine so even though I was putting in some quality quilting time, I let Papa Pea talk me into a snowshoe hike on our loop.

Here's the intrepid explorer leading the way across the very top of our ridge.  We saw lots of critter tracks, but nary a flesh-and-blood creature.  (I'm betting one or two saw us though.)

What was I working on in my quilt room over the weekend?

This runner for the top of our coffee table in front of the couch.

Long story regarding the origin of this piece.  Let's just say it was yet another flub-a-dub by yours truly trying to use up fabric in my copious stash without buying any more new fabric . . . and being unable (apparently!) to correctly calculate just how much of the background fabric was needed for the planned, larger piece.  I'll leave it at that.

There's a ninety to one hundred percent chance of snow predicted for us tonight into tomorrow.  These days of above freezing temperatures have definitely melted some of our snow, but we can't forget March can still be a very snowy month for us.  I won't be poking around in the garden beds just yet.  Good!  More time to play in my quilt room.  If only all those darn, necessary every day, routine tasks didn't scream for attention . . .

  1. Lovely runner! I adore table runners as they are practical and do not take a huge amount of fabric. Plus, like you said, you can utilize scraps. What is that quilty looking thing under the table? Is it a skirt around the table or are my eyes playing tricks on me? When I lived in Iowa I would walk regardless of the weather but there was nothing like a beautiful sunny day but remember to wear your sunglasses as the reflection on the snow could blind you! LOL! Our Spring is here...winters here are too short and too mild....I need the excitement of a good ole blizzard! LOL! Enjoy your 90 -100% chance of snow...I am jealous!

  2. Funny, isn't it, that when you 'flub' you still create something fabulous? You can't lose! It was supposed to rain (all week) but it was spitting snow as I left for work this morning. I'm glad to say that I can see more grassy spots now. So much easier to navigate than ice!

  3. Sam I Am - My "coffee table" is a box with glassed in sides and a removable top so I can store my quilts (folded) up in there. We did, indeed, wear sunglasses on our latest outing. Even sometimes while in the house here, the sun coming in the south windows makes me want to put my sunglasses on. It's that bright. I'll think of you if we get this predicted snow tonight and tomorrow!

Susan - Yepper, I really, really dislike the melting snow that quickly turns into mud, but you're so right . . . it's so much better than the ice! This latest runner came from a planned full-sized quilt that I got three-quarters of the way through before realizing I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH BACKGROUND FABRIC TO FINISH! I searched and searched for over a year trying to find more of the fabric (a basic beige and white dot), but was unsuccessful on it. Grrrrr.

  6. Why is it *necessary* to tell everyone, that your latest project, is somewhat flawed, in your mind?

    Looks pretty to me.

And if anyone who Reads here, were to look closely at it, and "pick it apart," as to its *perfection*.... Well, I would not consider that Reader, as being worth my time. Or being welcome.

    "Wisps" sezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

  8. wisps of words - Actually, I'm pickled tink as to how this quilted runner turned out. It's just that it started out to be a gor-gee-oh-so (!) full-sized quilt and I guess I'm making fun of my (lack of) math skills in figuring out how much fabric I had to start with and how much I actually needed. (We learned how to do story problems in fourth grade and I've always believed I've been weak in that area because I had chicken pox AND measles that year and missed too much school! ;o] ) Regarding the SPAM comments, fortunately I don't get very many of them so haven't gone to Comment Moderation. It's always an option though.

  9. Nice looking table topper! I don't think you could make it come out badly. You seem to have a great way with quilting, color combinations and all! Keep it up! Looks like quite a hill you two were climbing. Bet it was nice just to get out in the air and do something healthy and fun!! ox

  10. linnellnickerson - Yep, our property behind us goes up fairly steeply and the first half of our loop before reaching the ridge, gives us a darn good workout. On the other hand, coming down the other leg of the loop is easy! Thanks for commenting and the nice words regarding my quilting. It's a type of handwork I really enjoy so much . . . and a challenge to transfer an idea in my head to a finished fabric piece. Doesn't always work, but to keep trying is to keep learning! (I hope.)

  14. Goatldi - I like a gal who states her preferences! ;o)

Michelle - Well, gawsh! I really, really like the design, too, and the way the color combinations came out. You can't believe how disappointed (and stupid) I felt when I realized I didn't have enough of the background fabric to finish more than three-quarters of the full-sized quilt. Several people suggested I just use whatever fabric I could find that was close, but frankly, that would have spoiled it for me. :o(

  15. looks great! And we've had almost record high temperatures here. 64 yesterday possibly 67 today, then rain tomorrow in back in the 50s then warming up again later in the week. Spring is most definitely here

  17. A big thanks to Dr James for reserving my ALS disease with his effective herbal formula. I was diagnosed of ALS disease 5 months ago of all the horrible experience, I was bitterly in pains. My symptoms progressed so fast that I couldn't eat proper, walk, work, breath well, it was my worse part of life then. On this fateful day, I came across a post just like this concerning a patient who used Dr James herbal medicine herbal formula to reserve her ALS disease for over 4 years now. I was skeptical about it but I had no choice than to also contact this dr James I visited his blog site and made my orders. To cut it short, I used the herbal formula for six weeks as instructed and today makes it 7 months without no symptoms. I am also making my testimony about this miraculous did. I have been given 3 years ALS disease reserved guarantee after which i will make another purchase for another 3 years span again. Thank you very much dr James. For those who needs help, you can reach him via email on jamesherbalformula@gmail.com or WhatsApp number: +2348102574680 . Let's share this and help everyone. Don't judge until you give it a try
