This is a sideways view of the rack after I took the cups and saucers down. It was a good idea as they (and the rack) were d-u-s-t-y. (How did that happen?)
Here's a view of one of the saucers standing in the groove. You can also see the small nails that the handles of the cups hang on.
The rack is made with a good design because there are two doors to the left of the rack that we use frequently and we've never had any trouble with the saucers or cups jiggling out of place.
Hope this helps, Katie!
The design of it is really ingenious. What a nice piece to display your cups and saucers on.
ReplyDeleteSam I Am - It works well!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. There are always a few special cups and saucers to display and your rack looks perfect for the job.
ReplyDeleteNicely done. Someone was really thinking on this one.
ReplyDeleteDid your guy make yours?
ReplyDeleteNew Seasonal Header pic!!!!! :-)
🍂🍁🍂
That's really beautiful and so well done. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely and functional rack. I love the plate groove. I use my grandmother's china cabinet and it has a groove for plates too, although I don't use it as I have too many plates and have to stack them!
ReplyDeleteThe green stamps were around here til the nineteen seventy. Mine looks the same as it did when I got it and your looks like too! Hope you and Papa Pea had a nice anniversary! They seem to be more precious as we grow older. xo
ReplyDeleteNot sure how found my way here. LOL. It looks like you are close to my neck of the woods (WI here). What a wonderful display piece for your cups/saucers. I never really collected them but had a grandmother's collection and I passed that along to my daughter-she loves it.
ReplyDeleteI read your last post and my mother and aunts used their S&H green stamps for everything. Mother even got me my first baby's highchair with them.
Great to meet you. I am your newest follower and will put you on my sidebar- I read from there. I am a bit "slow" blogging lately because of going back to work full time.
Nice to "meet" you.
Leigh - It's certainly stood the test of time!
ReplyDeleteGoatldi - Wonder how many hundreds (thousands?) of them from S&H Green Stamps are still out there today?
wisps of words - Nope, it's one of the things I talked about in my previous post that my dear grandma gave me as a wedding shower gift!
Yeah, how 'bout them apples?
Rain - Old but cherished!
Dianna - Is there room to put some of your favorite plates up in the groove?
Lynne - As for our anniversary, just being together is more and more precious to me and I find I'm appreciating him more all the time.
NanaDiana - Welcome! So glad to have you aboard! That first highchair must have been so useful. I don't know how much a nicely made highchair costs these days but if Green Stamps were still around, I'll bet it would take a gazillion filled books to get one!
Working outside the home can really cut into the things (like blogging) you'd like to get done in a day's time! Hope you can squeeze a post in now and then. I'll watch for them. :o)
I'd like to try making something like this. Nice post.
ReplyDeletePhil - I'm sure you'd be successful! Got some of your families old china to display?
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you! You’ve given me what I need and now I’m famous too!
ReplyDeleteKatie C. - No doubt about it. The rack did it for both of us. (Hahahaha!)
ReplyDeleteMama Pea... In regard to your suggestion, on my New Dresses post... That they would be perfect, if I could wear tights/leggins under them...
ReplyDeleteI need all cotton, in any/all *pants,* to be able to wear them comfortably. The straight leg pants, which you suggested, all have some spandex in them. Even just a little, gives me that skin-crawling-and-sweating effect.
And with out that little spandex, they would not look "right," under a dress.
-sigh- I'm hopeless, in this area! ,-)
Guess I will just have to "suffer," while out. And pull some old sweats on, under them, at home. Which of course, defeats the whole dress idea! LOLLLLLL
🍁🍂🍎🍂🍁
wisps of words - I think we all have our quirks that are very real such as yours and not being able to wear anything "tight" or clinging with spandex in it. It really makes finding things to wear that look nice and are comfortable at the same time hard. I have "defective" feet and have to wear inserts in my shoes which means I can't wear all types and/or styles of shoes. Trying to find ones that look good with an outfit when I want to look presentable is a challenge. Oh, it's so hard to be fashionably dressed, isn't it!?
ReplyDeleteDon’t you just hate that spandex is in everything these days? Try finding jeans without it but I will confide they are easier to get on with the spandex. I also have odd feet. I finally got orthotics and live in my sneakers. They have made such a difference that I struggle when I have to wear regular shoes that the orthotics don’t fit in.
ReplyDeleteMama Pea, I have one more request from my guy. Would you please measure the length of the saucer shelf? He is going to make me one in a bit and one for a cousin of mine for a Christmas present. He did say that he will probably get brass hooks instead of using nails for the cups. Right now we are in the midst of a bathroom destruction and reconstruction. The tiling guy starts Monday! Yay! We are talking about a 1964 master bathroom that only measures 5 x 8. I got rid of the pink toilet and sink ...
Katie C. - The length of the saucer shelf is 19". Sounds odd, but that's what it is. Small brass hooks will look classier than the nails for the cups. Good idea.
ReplyDeleteHa, I have you beat in the size of our (only) bathroom. It's 7-1/2' x 9-1/2'! And we don't have pink toilet or sink either!! ;o)
