"Look, look! Here he comes."
"Follow that man with the goodies!"
(Can you spot the three little ones in the foreground?)
"Num-num-num . . . "
These are the three chicks and a duckling with their Muscovy mama who hatched them out a few weeks ago.
They grow so fast. The chicks are growing a good crop of feathers already.
Our other Muscovy hen hatched out this healthy batch of seven ducklings exactly one week ago today.
The two duck hens have both proven to be consistently broody and wonderful mothers. So, so much easier (and healthier, we believe) to raise birds this natural way!
Too cute!
ReplyDeleteI loved the years the two legged kids were in 4-H poultry. They were always having a hatch of something or the other. Bantam Call Ducks are too sweet when tiny.
Creatures of habit, that's for sure! But then, I guess we are as well, as we get into a routine of feeding them. I can't step out onto the back porch and shut the door without the hens running to the fence of their "run". They definitely know who feeds them! Your ducklings are adorable! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteCaring for creatures who are familiar with you and to you is soul-feeding!
ReplyDeleteHow cute!!!
ReplyDeleteGosh, The chicks are adorable. They look so fluffy. What good Mama ducks. Before you know it you'll be getting eggs. Take care!
ReplyDeleteGoatldi - I think many folks have very fond memories of being in 4-H when they were young. Or having had kids, like you did, in it.
ReplyDeleteJenn - One of our compost bins is by one side of the poultry fencing and whenever I go over there to dump weeds or inedible scraps, the chickens and ducks come running thinking I'm going to throw something over the fence for them. Like watermelon rinds . . . yum!
Michelle - Soul-feeding and can be so calming if you just take the time to stand still or sit and watch them.
Nancy - Baby chicks are cute but those little ducklings are just adorable!
Lynne - Yes, time does go by that quickly!
Those are great photos. It must be so nice to have a flock like that on the homestead!
ReplyDeleteThose babies are precious! What great Moms those ducks are!
ReplyDeleteI am such a sucker for young poultry! I think it's always better and healthier if you can have home raised youngin's.
