Why Our Spring Flowers Don't Bloom Until June

This weather was forecast so I pushed to get the remainder of the raised beds and the asparagus patch weeded yesterday.  (And why was it that I bothered to do that?)

You can see the raised beds in the distance over the snow-covered table on the deck.  Barely.

This lovely batch of Poor Man's Fertilizer still coming down is supposed to turn to rain later today.  Rain and melting would be fine.  Just so it all doesn't freeze.

  1. We got snow, but it melted early, and now it's rain and rain. Cold too. I hope it doesn't ruin my asparagus coming up right now. I bet you are ready to see that snow go.

  2. Kristina - I always say we are snow lovers, but there comes a time in the spring when a person kinda wants to get on with the new season. I keep thinking this is gonna turn to rain and melt but the white flakes are still coming down and piling up. Gotta flow with it, I guess. So I'm inside doing laundry and ironing, slicing and packaging fruit cake for the freezer, making cottage cheese and yogurt. Good thing we can find things to do, isn't it? ;o)

  3. That's horrible! The ground is really going to be mush. The weather in this world is all balled up. Good luck with everything!!

  4. Lynne - Our snow continues to come down, all day now. I think we have about 8" out there. Yes, it's gonna be very wet for several days. And the soil in the gardens was dry enough for me to get in with my tiller yesterday. Oh well, it's still early.

  5. You Mama Pea should be ordained as the Saint of Optimism.

I applaude your optimist viewpoint. And when given lemons we well y’all know.

I often times felt crimped and put upon. But you know what? Those of us who see it as a bonus day prosper.

You are an example of being grateful for “unanswered prayers. “ Thanks to Garth Brooks also. But you are cuter💕

  7. We're getting into the mid-80s now, which I'm really not ready for, although I wouldn't want a dose of snow either! At least your weeding is done!

  8. We got snow, but not to THAT extent. Blechhhh! Spring will happen... eventually. We just have rain, rain, and more rain right now. -Jenn

  9. Great that you had some inside chores to do...(not that the chores ever end!)... even though the body wants outside chores this time of year! Hope it melts away soon. We are in a dry patch, and I am praying for some moisture because we got the crops in the ground, but I don't think I'd enjoy the snow ! Hope your garden day is soon!

  11. I know what you mean. I like winter. Really. But not an entire two seasons of winter. By the end of April, I am over it. I was out in my garden while it was spitting snow at me on Saturday. One has to take a stand, right?

  12. Goatldi - Well, aren't you the very nicest! And as far as being cuter than Garth Brooks . . . I don't know, he's purdy nice lookin'! :o}

Leigh - Not very happy about this snow (which is still hanging around), but I know I wouldn't do well in 80 degree weather this time of year!

Jenn - We had a very, very gray day with rain forecast, but it never materialized. But was so damp out there it almost felt like rain. :o(

wyomingheart - To chirk myself up, I actually did a little bit of quilting the last two days. Felt good! Hope you get your needed moisture soon.

wisps of words - Jack Frost just does not want to give up in the northern states, does he!

Susan - Why does taking a stand often feel like beating ones head against a wall? :o\

  13. It's not freezing here but it's been raining which I actually like. I hope yours turns to rain...after all it is May now! Come on MN! But then you get those wonderful snow storms that I miss so much. When you don't have hard freezes (here) the weeds take over in the Winter, the bugs don't die off or the germs and you have to mow for 9 months out of the year. I love mowing but not when it's 100 F and 100% humidity! LOL!
Spring is probably there by now.

  14. Bummer! Love your header! I gave up on my font size and used my own photo too, much easier..

  15. Sam I Am - Seems no matter where in the country we put down our roots, there are advantages and disadvantages to deal with. Lawn mowing for 9 months of the year would cause my husband to move! Not one of our favorite tasks around here. We keep turning more and more of our "lawn" into garden, but that makes some work, too. But I'd rather weed in a garden than mow a lawn!

Nancy - Yes, I see you've done a really nice job with your font and header. Sometimes we've just gotta do what we've gotta do!
