Chicken Mama has a date every Saturday with three munchkins that she wouldn't give up for the world.
A dear friend of hers was diagnosed with terminal cancer shortly after she gave birth to twins, siblings to their then four year old big sister. It was an awful time and our whole community rallied to provide as much help and support to the family as possible.
For the first two years of the twins' lives, they were cared for by their loving aunt (who had a large family of her own) and Chicken Mama.
So you can imagine Chicken Mama has a special place in her heart for the now three year old twins and their seven year old sister.
The gang came to pick strawberries yesterday. More berries went into their bellies (s'magine that) than baskets and a good time was had by all.
Big sister brought her own basket . . . and FILLED IT!
Hey, why are there no berries IN the baskets??
"Look at this big one!"
Little Brother was a serious picker!
She exclaimed to Chicken Mama, "Look how big this is!" and, smoosh, it went into her wee mouth.
I told Chicken Mama this picture looks as if I had hired a group of itinerant workers to pick my berries.
Red lips, red fingers, red drips down shirt fronts, full bellies . . . even a few intact strawberries went out the driveway with them.
Awe! I love this.🙂 This is my first visit in SO long. How cool that I get to see these loves here.❤️
ReplyDeletePatty - Welcome back! You know these three kiddos are the way they are because of you. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a wonderful family you are, and what a wonderful community as well to care for those small children in such a way.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vera. Their mama said over and over that the more people who loved her children, the better their lives would be.
DeleteThanks, Kev. I know you've regularly had this same kind of scene in your own garden!
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand memory for those kiddies!
ReplyDeleteMrsDM - I hope they remember in years to come and make it an annual event. We get to see them quite frequently and all three are happy kids. Until these two youngest, I'd never had the opportunity to be around twins. Now I'm a firm believer that's the way everyone should do it! Not that much more work with two of the same age than one and the interaction between them is fascinating.
DeleteLove it when a community comes together. Wishing it wasn't always over something devastating. Too cute and you all rock it!
ReplyDeleteGoatldi - I know what you mean, but it sure is good to know that when push comes to shove, there's a lot of love and support around!
DeleteMama Pea,
ReplyDeleteYour Daughter is an amazing woman, and I know where that came from :-)
God Bless Chicken Mama, and these adorable children, and you and your husband.
These children are so loved, and will have so many great memories with friends and the community surrounding them.
Hugs,
Sandy
Sandy - Thanks for the kind words, Sandy.
DeleteLike puppies (!), socializing children from the time they're born does really reap benefits! These kiddos have felt a lot of love in their little lives and are a true delight to be around. May that never change!
Aw, such a sweet story and what adorable kids. Well worth managing your strawberry population. The photos are a great start to my day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leigh. I'm still smiling over what good, careful pickers they were!
DeleteOMG, how they have grown! What fun it is to have garden adventures. One of the few childhood memories I have is wandering through a raspberry patch, eating six for every one I put in my pail. Such good memories they will have of your dear family.
