The Simple Beauty of Color

This morning while chopping veggies for an omelette, I couldn't help but notice the delightful coloration of this sweet pepper.

The hues of the pepper made me stop to look around and realize how much color can stimulate our senses while adding enjoyment to our lives.  (Could this be part of the reason Christmas is such a beloved time of year?  Just think of all the colorful decorations.)

Taking time to look around my own home . . . the warm, golden brown of wood paneling, the bright blue of a Blue Jay's wing, the cheery yellow of a painted wall, the rosy red of a jar of home-canned tomato juice, the twinkling hazel color of a loved ones eyes, the myriad of vivid colors in a scrap quilt.

I'm glad the world is more than black and white.

  1. I have been loving the soft colours of autumn this year, perhaps because I have the time to enjoy the various hues. Taking time to stop and look, that is what I have not always done in the past!

  2. Oh, what a beautiful pepper! I notice colors more this time of year - probably because there is a bigger range. Our trees are just beginning to change. I love this time of year.

    1. Susan - Our colors seem to be slow in turning this year. Thus far, we're only at about 25% peak color. (Which is fine 'cause I feel slow this year, too!)

  3. I love the variety of colors in the garden harvest. We filled our little red wagon with the last of the tomatoes (both red and yellow), some peppers, okra, sweet potatoes, stripetti spaghetti squash, acorn squash and a solitary beet. It was beautiful and knowing the flavors are a bold as the colors makes it even better. I got a pic. Maybe tomorrow I can get a post up if I'm not too late getting home from the day job.

  4. I so agree! While I'm still getting red tomatoes and green okra from the garden, I'm patiently waiting on all that fall color. Love fall so much....it really just lifts my mood. You could be on to something about the Christmas lights.

    1. Laurie - Most people say spring energizes them. For me, it's fall! Lifting my mood, as you said, is a good way to put it.

  5. That is such a beautiful combination of colours! That is what I love the most about fall, is the way the colours work together. -Jenn

    1. Glenda - Yes, for sure. It's so, so easy to get caught up in the hustle-bustle of life that makes us miss the really important things.

  7. I lived in dry country with few trees until Ralph swept me off my feet and dragged me south. He always laughs at me when I remark about the 9 million shades of green in the woods here! I so agree about the joy of colors from the world around us. The pinky brown of Buff eggs, the deep purple black of a Hungarian pepper, the shimmering green of a Cayuga Drakes neck. The blue of a fall sky and yes the green of Oak trees and the silver ghostly white of a Sycamore shedding its bark! Ahh your making me wax sort of poetical! Lovely pepper too!

  8. Fiona - You said it so much more "poetically" than I!! Even in the winter up here when one might complain the colors are drab, if you take the time to look at all the different greens of the evergreens and bark colorations of the birch and poplar trees, there is still much color.
