Spring Is Coming! No, It's Not.

I can't help but get excited about the melting we had yesterday.

There's bound to be more snow disappearing today as the temp in the shade is up to 53° already, the sun is shining and there's a slight breeze blowing which will help with the evaporation.  Needless to say, this is the warmest we've seen it in months.  And months.

Now for the bad news.  (Dum-da-dum-dum.)  Rain is forecast for late today turning into snow over night and continuing on into the first of the week.

This is nuthin' unusual for our March weather.  This is the way our spring comes in.  And goes out.  And comes in.  And . . . and . . . and.

But regardless of the fact that we'll probably get more snow, none of it will stay around for long now.  (Famous last words?)

I won't be out in the dirt planting for quite a while yet, but only three more weeks before I can start some seedlings inside.

Yikes, can you believe we change the clocks tonight?  Spring forward, fall behind.  I swanny (old southern expression, right?), doesn't it seem like only about a month ago we pushed the clocks back an hour?

  1. I actually don't mind the spring ahead because it makes my day longer :) I suffer depression and mostly have it managed, but I find the dark, sunless winters are challenging. I took the three dogs out for an hour-long walk today, it's so beautiful out there, but along the roads MESSY...sand and dirt! I was smart today, I stuck to the roads, no sinking :)

    1. Rain - Hubby and I just got back in from a walk out our driveway to pick up the mail. The driveway has been so icy all winter that it was good to see some parts actually clear (and muddy!), some parts slushy, and, of course, some parts still icy. It's getting better day by day now. (We didn't step off into the woods to see how far down we'd still sink!) ;o]

  2. I despise the time change. It's FINALLY starting to get light in the morning, and now they want to plunge me back into the darkness.
I'm always tempted to not switch my clocks, but that could be a problem with appts, etc.
    But it's tempting.......

    1. Sue - Being another early riser and morning person, you know I'm right with you in cringing when this spring time change comes around. I suppose we could be two old grumpy grouchy Luddites, but alas, that would probably only come back to bite us in our backsides! ;o]

  3. Well, I swanny! Your warm weather sure does tease. Normally, we don't plant until the first week or two of April. Well, good Friday to be exact...is the preferred planting time. But, with our warm temperatures, I'm so tempted to go ahead and plant. Easter is in March, this year, after all. I'm so excited about the garden this year. Cliff had raised beds built for me and even fenced them to keep the deer out. I've been taking pictures and will post soon.

    1. Laurie - :o)! I am so eager to see LOTS of pictures of your garden this year! So much fun for gardeners to see pictures of what and how others are doing. You will be far ahead of me, but that's just fine!

  4. I had an aunt who used to preface almost every comment with "I swan". I thought it was just a southern expression.

We are greening up down here in southern Missouri. I know you are longing to get gardening; you better just keep enjoying quilting or reading inside where it is nice and dry and warm.

    1. gld - I think you're right . . . it is a southern expression. I'm currently reading a book that takes place in the south and that's where I got the it!

Getting in more quilting, knitting, reading, etc. is exactly what my husband tells me I should be doing because once our (very short) gardening season does start, it's intense and I'm outside twelve hours a day!

Please keep posting pictures of your spring weather and flowers, gardens, etc. That may keep me from being so impatient to get outside here!

  5. Mama Pea,

Oklahoma government/people are trying to stop the time change for good.
All I really want is more light when up early in the morning, and late at night.
You're getting rain, which will probably turn into ice. It sure would be nice to have the sun and temperatures in the 70's. We had rain today, more tomorrow. Then a reprieve for about 4 days, then it's back to rain.

    1. Sandy - I guess we all have to remember that April showers bring May flowers. But wait . . . what does rain in March mean? For us, probably more ice! :o/

I wonder if Oklahoma does away with the silly time change, other states would follow?

  6. I find the whole time change thing extremely annoying. And the critters don't care!

We actually had some snow about a week ago, but the rain washed it away before it looked like more than just flakes. I have to say though, your garden looks good even under snow!
