Our daughter invited us for Easter Dinner this year. But she warned the meal would be unorthodox Easter fare.
Between her two jobs, tomorrow is her only day off in a string of eleven or twelve, so she didn't feel she had the time to spend shopping for and then preparing the meal she had originally planned.
So what is she serving?
Tacos.
Sounds good to me! Anytime I get to eat anyone else's cooking but my own, it's a treat. The other folks she's invited are also just fine with the menu. A little merlot, a little pinot grigio, a little zinfandel, the tacos with all the trimmings . . . all will be just hunky-dory!
I made some frosted sugar cookie eggs this afternoon so everyone would have a cookie or two in their Easter basket.
My style of decorating with frosting can only be described as "rustic." But the cookie recipe is good as is the frosting, so I don't usually have too many complaints.
I might, of course, if Martha Stewart should stop by. But I don't think she'd ever go for tacos for Easter Dinner anyway.
Hey, I would eat tacos anytime. Pile on the cilantro and lime. But maybe margaritas instead of merlot. Heck, it don't matter. It will be a good old time. Now, as far as Martha is concerned...just sit her in the corner with a paper craft and give her one of those delicious cookies.
ReplyDeleteLaurie - Oh, yes! Margaritas!!! Wonder why daughter didn't think of that???
DeleteHope your day is great!
Tacos sound divine! I'm with you - just having someone else make dinner makes it a special occasion.
ReplyDeleteSusan - All I had to do was provide the wine daughter asked for and beer for husband. My kinda dinner out!
DeleteYum! I'd go for tacos. Sounds relaxing. We didn't give baskets this year. Or make cookies. I'm okay with that too.
ReplyDeleteKristina - Seriously, I wish I could talk our daughter out of exchanging baskets . . . but it seems to mean a lot to her and she does give great baskets to Papa Pea and me!
DeleteSo sorry your hubby has to work! Ugh.
I love your rustic style, that gave me a good giggle, I guess my style is more of a...rugged rustic! Tacos are superb, especially with your varieties of red wines to drink! Enjoy your Easter, I'm making a pork tenderloin for my bf, turbot fillets for me, both with a Grand Marnier glaze and good ol' mashed taters!
ReplyDeleteRain - Your Easter Dinner (both entrees!) sounded wonderful. I'm sure you enjoyed it.
DeleteHave a great week, Rain!
Cheers from Japan! ! Happy Easter to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteRyoma
Thank you very much, Ryoma!
DeleteMama Pea,
ReplyDeleteSorry, slow on reading, commenting and posting. I've been busy trying to get things done on the homestead since we've been away off and on for 4 months.
It appears to me after reading your post you and your family had a wonderful Easter :-) Those cookies look delicious :PPP
Sandy - Yes, with all you've been through it may take you a time to get back into your own routine. Lots to catch up on, I'm sure.
DeleteWe did have a nice Easter. Hope you did, too.
Well then, Martha can just eat someplace else if she is so picky. LOL We had 7 layer Mexican dip for Easter - it is a meal in itself - and of course cookies and sweets for dessert. I like your cookie decorating idea - might give that a try next year - if I can remember it until then.
ReplyDeleteJoAnn - I don't know if it was just this particular year or what, but so many people had a not-traditional meal for Easter this year. Your 7 layer Mexican dip sounds wonderful!
DeleteThat Easter dinner sounds good to me. I love the Easter egg cookies. I need to remember that. I can bend a can to make the oval cut-out for the cookies....may not even wait for next Easter.....
ReplyDeletegld - The Easter taco dinner was good! (Especially since I didn't have to make it!)
DeleteYes, because you raise chickens and eggs, you could use the egg cookie cutter whenever you wanted! I do have a tradition of making them every Easter, for sure.
