Yesterday morning I went to visit a friend who took a nasty fall on some ice last Tuesday. When I returned home around noon-ish, on the kitchen table I found not one but two beautiful pots of cyclamens . . . a Valentine's Day gift from my husband. (He said he couldn't decide which one he liked better, so got both.)
The coloration of this one is even darker than the picture shows. Some of the blossoms are nearly blue.
This one reminds me of tulips! The buds are closed up so tightly before showing their full bloom.
Many years ago I had a cyclamen plant that bloomed steadily for over a year. I'm hoping I can keep these going for as long.
I'm also keeping the sweet man I live with who is so thoughtful, kind and caring to remember occasions like this. He's definitely my Cupid!
Love is a wonderful thing! And you are right they do look like tulips.

Sue - HAHAHOHOHOHEEHA! You should see us when we aren't being "sweet!" We both are tremendously stubborn (one of us is pig-headed, the other mule-headed) and can make the sparks fly (not good ones!) when we don't agree. Papa Pea's older brother was a professional astrologist and in comparing our charts before we married said we would never be able to get along and be happy together. That was going on 53 years ago now. ;o}

DeleteMichelle - The love is always there, but the commitment takes a lot of work, doesn't it? Too many people today (not all, but many) don't seem to be up to the work that commitment (and honoring vows) take.

What a wonderful treat to come home to! Cyclamen used to be so popular at Valentines but I don't see much of them anymore! Hoping they last a long time!

DeleteThat's so sweet :) I love those flowers, I miss flowers during winter. I can't keep any in the house because the cats nibble on them. It's always a challenge to find a place to put them where they can't reach them! My bf told me this morning he'd planned breakfast in bed, but we both slept in because the power went out for nearly 3 hours overnight on the coldest night of the year, -42C...crazy. With 3 dogs and 3 cats in bed with us, we kept warm enough though! Time to start thinking of a generator...anyway, we'll be having a nice dinner. Filet mignon with cognac sauce for him, grilled trout with apple salsa for me, some roasted potatoes and green beans...then a Frangelico cheesecake that I'm just making now with some sparkling wine by the fireplace. :)

DeleteI have very fond memories of cyclamen plants. Unfortunately for me I could never keep them alive for much longer than a year.
ReplyDeleteI got some ginger snap cookies (made by my Valentine guy) and he also made Sweet and Sour Chicken for supper. Who needs flowers and chocolates when you can have gingersnaps and Sweet and Sour Chicken?!
Sparkless - I'd take good gingersnap cookies and Sweet and Sour Chicken over chocolate any day. Nuthin' better than goooood food!
