. . . which may not come as much of a surprise to some people.
Finally finished the new autumnal toned rug I've been crocheting for in front of the kitchen sink.
I can't get the durn thing to lie as flat as I want it on the floor.
This is my second try at the rug. I had it about two-thirds of the way done when I realized there was just too much ripple-dipple in it so tore it completely out and started again.
Yep, I've lost my touch apparently because as hard as I tried to add the increases where I thought they were needed, the rug is still not flat as a rug should be.
I'll leave it for a time while we walk and stand on it, maybe wash it to see if that pulls it together in the right places. If it doesn't shape up by then . . . well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
However, I fully realize if this is the biggest problem I have, there's no reason to complain or be upset. For sure! Geesh.
Love the colors! We have store bought rugs that have lost their rubber backing over the years. We slip & slide & they bunch up something fierce. If someone were to look in the window they would probably think we were dancing.
ReplyDeleteDFW - Dancing is fine, but slipping and going boom is not. Be careful!
DeleteIt is lovely - the center rows remind me of corn - hope it flattens out - maybe the washing will help.
ReplyDeleteJoAnn - It's been on the floor for several hours now and I think I'm winning and the rug is losing . . . seems to be flattening out. Guess it pays to walk like an elephant. (I've been told that before!)
DeleteMama Pea,
ReplyDeleteYour rug is gorgeous, you haven't lost your touch.
Sandy - You're sweet! Glad to report the rug does seem to be behaving. We'll just keep stomping on it for a while!
DeleteI've had ripple-dipple rugs... and they can make you faulter in the kitchen. Be careful.
ReplyDeleteI've had my favorite crochet rug...for 26 years now! My son was a baby when I made it. You can't beat a good crochet rag rug.
You're right sometimes they do stretch out.
If it doesn't... toss it on the ottoman... for a colorful switch for fall!
Patricia - Yep, as a last resort should it be necessary, I could toss it on top of our granddog's bed. He'd be fine with it!
Deletelovely colours, have you put a rubber backing on it, I hope it flattens out for you it would be a shame to discard it :-)
ReplyDeleteDawn - Good idea! Rubber backing never hurts even if a rug doesn't seem to slide. Thanks.
DeleteI love the colors. I've done that before, and had to rip it all out.
ReplyDeleteKristina - I don't know why I kept going the first time . . . guess I hoped the crocheting genie would fix the problem that was way back at the beginning!
Deleteyou're just trying to make the rest of us rug makers feel better. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteodiie - Not at all, m'dear. Just trying to figure out why I used to be able to whip an oval rug out with no problem and now I've contracted the ripples!
DeleteWell it sure is cute, even if it isn't cooperating.
ReplyDeleteLaurie - Aw, thanks! The good news is that it is getting a bit "flatter." I think after a washing it will be even better.
