Off the Wall? Nope, On the Wall!
See that little quilted piece on the wall under the framed picture? It's a small wall hanging I made a couple of years ago, and I really like it. But the fabrics I used in making it are definitely of an "autumnal" hue. With our summer season approaching (we're still holding out hope), I wanted something that said "green and growing" more than "end-of-the-season-wrap-up."
New piece done, new piece in place.
When my daughter saw this being made she thought it was something for Christmas. Hey, reds and greens can be just as much summer colors as Christmas ones!
The block I chose is an old one called, simply, Flower Pot.
I wanted bright colors of summer, but also wanted it to coordinate with the colors used in the framed cross-stitch hanging above it.
This little project has been on my Wanna-Do List for a while. And now it's done!
Love it! You do such beautiful work. I made a plain (all greens) spring table runner top today. Hope to get it put together tomorrow. But, I don't hand quilt, just learned to stipple on my sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteDFW - I do a lot of machine quilting, too. (Sure is a lot faster . . . well, duh!) Would you consider posting a picture of your spring table runner when it's done? Love to see other quilty things!
DeleteCute. I love the old one with the round amish style circles. Sweet! What's the pattern called on that?
ReplyDeleteNancy po - I've always called it Pumpkin Seed, but I think it's known as Orange Peel or Melon, too.
DeleteMama Pea,
ReplyDeleteYour Flower Pot quilted picture is adorable. It really looks good hanging there.......and it's not for Christmas. It accents the border around your moose and deer needle point picture.
Sandy - Thank you, thank you, thank you!
DeleteI think it looks like tulips!!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn - Tulips, eh? Right! Tulips! Yes, it looks like tulips!!
DeleteSpring or Christmas I love your quilt block choice. Go you getting your craft/quilt/sew on! What a mouthful. I hope to start some sewing this coming week. I hope, I hope, I hope!
ReplyDeleteLisa - Well, now that you've gotten your dear daughter over and through her latest amazing sewing project, it should be your turn for a while! Do it, I say, do it!
DeleteIt's fantastic! I just love your seasonal wall hangings. They really offer some lovely variety and keep things interesting.
ReplyDeleteLeigh - Aw, shucks, thank you. I know some people think I'm stuck at the kindergarten level (paste, colored paper and scissors), but I love decorating for the seasons. Don't think I could ever make it with the same things out and about year in and year out!
DeleteGood stuff! My first impressions was tulips, too.
ReplyDeleteMark - Yep, I'm definitely starting to see tulips! :o)
DeleteIts lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Fiona!
DeleteLove it too! And doesn't it feel oh-so-good to check something off that to-do list! Your cross-stitch is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLisa - You bet! Such a good feeling with that line through something on the list you've been wanting to accomplish!
DeleteI made two of those cross-stitches. Gave both to my daughter asking her to mat and frame them and keep one for herself. I got mine back right away but don't think she ever framed the one for herself. (Isn't that so often the way?!)
VERY nice and it goes well there on the wall! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Candy. I've kept a small seasonal wall hanging there for a while now and find it hard to believe it was just a blank space for so long!
DeleteLooks great. I love the pattern. My kitchen is in red and green with a little wheat color thrown in. Those colors work any time of the year including summer.
ReplyDeleteMichelle - I would love the colors of your kitchen! I like rich colors in a kitchen because we spend so much time there that it should be vibrant and happy!
DeleteOOh! I love those quilted wall hangings! I'd have a hard time choosing which to use. ;)
ReplyDeletebeth s - I still need to make one that is very Christmasy and one that is definitely winter-ish. Stay tuned! ;o}
