Papa Pea and I are taking a day off today. Both of us are going to independently do whatever we want.
Last night I asked him what he was looking forward to doing. In his typical ever-wanting-to-get-on-top-of-his-computer/desk work, he said he'd feel loads better if he spent some time trying to at least locate the top surface of the desk itself. (If you saw the mountain of paper work on his desk on any given day, you'd know the challenge involved there.) He's also been wanting to build a wood duck box to put down by our little pond so he's aiming for that also. And probably a gazillion other things he'd like to do.
Me? Not hard to guess where I'll be. In my quilt room for most of the time. You can always tell when I've not been in there for a while. All surfaces are littered with notes to myself of project ideas, projects in progress, and various small piles of "stuff" that in no way belongs in my quilt room but has been stashed there (out of sight) until I put it where it belongs. So, such is the state of the room right now. But it won't take long to get it back into organizational working order. Yep, I'm one of those people who is uncomfortable working with a mess surrounding me. I need to have a "clear deck" to feel creative.
And with that said, I'm off to pursue my Mental Health Day. Sure hope it helps all things mental!
Now and then we take a mental health day too. Mine is always - always - spent at the beach - sitting and looking - sometimes I take photos - but mostly I sit and look - rain, shine, snow, wind - no matter - I just sit and look. And pick one rock to bring home.
ReplyDeleteJoAnn - I totally understand the serenity you feel being at the beach. I don't know of anything more calming than zoning out while watching and listening to waves gently lapping up on shore.
DeleteHope you enjoyed your day. I have days like that, I just have to get something cleaned up before I can move on.
ReplyDeleteDFW - It was a very nice day. "Life" intervened (!) at the end of the day, but we can't escape that, can we? :o}

ReplyDeleteIt does feel good to get your working area tidied up and I always seem find something or other that had been misplaced!! LOL! Can't wait to see your newest creations. :)
ReplyDeleteCandy C. - I did make great strides on my newest project. I really had to put the blinders on though 'cause I kept thinking of something else I'd like to get going on! Such a problem!
DeleteGreat idea! I have to take off for a hike every once in a while. I used to say Nature was calling but I got funny looks...mental health day sounds better.
ReplyDeletehoosier girl - That's funny! That expression certainly has more than one meaning! "Mental Health Day" may sound a little clinical, but doesn't cause people to look at you so funny!
DeleteI think it's so important to take a day "off" from time to time. Though we did work in the garden all morning, this afternoon we got the bikes out and enjoyed our first ride of the year. It was wonderful. The spring peepers could be heard and we saw our first flicker of the year and a bunch of bees on the ground in several areas. Spring has definately sprung! Have a great weekend, and hope you got some good "you" time in!!
ReplyDeleteSue - We've been talking about getting our bikes out . . . but that's as far as it's gone so far. We saw our first flicker yesterday, too! He was trying to figure out how to land on the peanut butter feeder and get some. We've never seen one go after it before. Good weekend wishes to you, too, friend.
DeleteA Mental Health Day every once in a while-- is necessary to prevent Mental SICK days... ;)
ReplyDeleteI take one every now and again-- probably should up my dosage. ha!
Patricia - I'm going to use your phrase about "upping your dosage" if you don't mind. Love it! And so true.
DeleteI always love your comments on being organized before beginning a project. For me, I cannot begin to even cook dinner until the kitchen is prepared...clean and neat (and that includes a clean floor.) And my favorite saying is...."The key to productivity is organization". Hubby doesn't think much of that "saying"! From one who understands the "gift" that we share and the discomfort of beginning any project before the area to begin such project is neat....cheers. LOL and enjoy your tidy quilt room and the "productiveness" you'll find there.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - Yes, yes, yes! I simply cannot prepare a meal if there are dirty dishes sitting on the counter. Many folks just don't "get that" but I know you do! Leaving dishes from dinner for the next morning? (Screeeeeeeammmm!) Nope, can't do it. There are those who call that a character fault but from now on I'm calling it my "gift!" Thank you!
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful mental health day! Understand what you are saying..... Can't work in a mess, but then make a mess when I work!!! Hope you are able to be quilting! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteLisa - The funny thing is when I'm totally wrapped up in a project, I don't even notice the new mess I'm making while I'm creating. It's always a bit of a shock when I'm done and see the chaos I've created!!
DeleteMama Pea,
ReplyDeleteI say it's about time!!! You and your husband deserve to have a mental health day. I'm having mine today :-)......hubby out working on the range, I'm home alone enjoying myself :-)
Sandy - I love and treasure every day my hubby and I share, but having time alone (just once in a while) is good for both of us, I think. We always joke that the person left alone gets "to be boss for that whole time!"
DeleteMama pea, I am exactly the same way! I can't stand clutter that's what I am doing today! Besides planting in my garden more! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLeah - Good to know there are other "neat freaks" out there! My husband still thinks I'm an immaculate housekeeper. I'm not; never have been. I just keep things neat!! ;o}
DeleteWe do the same thing. Not often, but sometimes you just need to decompress, and you're better off for it. For me sometimes it time on the air with my amateur radios. Or just listening while I de-trash the "shack" that tends collect things like you quilting room does. For me, having a clean and organized workspace kind of generates a calmer demeanor.
ReplyDeleteMark - I truly believe you shape your environment and your environment shapes you. Yay for calmer demeanors!
