No More Mrs. Nice Guy

Sigh.  Our forecast is for another big bunch of snow Wednesday night and into Thursday.

When a friend walked through our living room this morning, she pointed to this cross-stitched wall hanging I've had on the wall for the past few months and said, "You know you're not helping by keeping that up."

Can you read it?  It says, "Welcome Winter."

Even though the calendar says it's officially "spring," I've been really hesitant to put up any spring decorations.  There's something about the three feet of snow still on the ground outside our windows that makes spring decorations just seem wrong.  But my friend's comment was the impetus I needed to yank Mr. Snowman and his chirky "Welcome Winter" off the wall.

Down he came and was replaced by something that looks a little less winter, at least a little more spring time.

Last year, we got 40" of snow in the month of April.  Let's hope my ditching of Mr. Snowman and his welcoming of winter will protect us from that happening this year.

  1. Oh, fercryinoutloud. Haven't you had enough? You know, my retirement plans are now starting to veer off from Minnie-soda...kidding. I'm with you - it's hard to be all spring-like and cheery when there's still snow in the air, on the ground, in the forecast. Not to mention the three inches of solid ice off the front deck stairs. Whoopdedoo.

    1. Susan - Yeah, we're battling ice under foot here, too. I hate the mud that comes with (real) spring, but having to navigate on the ice is not pleasant either.

  2. Your right about that ,I had a bad day myself yesterday ,and opened the shade and what is usually a very pretty sight to behold ,was so depressing ,do you think ,we all might have a bit of "cabin fever"

    1. judy - I still enjoy not having to do much outside 'cause I can quilt and do handwork without (too much) guilt, but I'm starting to wonder if our snow will be gone by 4th of July this year!

  3. 40 inches of snow in April?!
I'd just crawl under my quilt and sleep until it were melted.

    1. Carolyn - I know two people who record snowfall amounts up here . . . one for a TV station and I don't know exactly where the other guy sends his information. But both of them, located about 15 miles apart in our county, have recorded over 140" of snow so far this winter. Eeeep!

  4. Ugh I don't think it's ever going to end! Our weather in Indiana isn't as bad as yours but it's still horrid for the end of March. I woke this morning to more snow and a revised forecast. Here's to spring...soon!

    1. The 'Stead - Well, if we all live long enough (!), it will stop dropping this winter weather on us, and actually turn into spring. I hope. :o/

  5. I have to admit that living closer to the land has taught me to ignore the calendar. What do those folks know anyway!

I'm excited to say I'm mentally designing a quilt for our "new" bedroom! Quilting was my first fiber love and it's exciting to be caught up in some ideas again. It will have to be extremely simple, but I always looked forward to the day when I could at last begin to work on handcrafted textiles for our home.

    1. Leigh - I don't know how you've put it off for so long. Oh, I do know, I guess. There are times when necessities (like having a set-up kitchen to cook in and a warm place to sleep) simply have to come first!

  6. Hehe, I guess it can't hurt to take it down. You never know! Praying you get to see green grass soon!

    1. Stephanie - The way time goes by, before we know it we'll be complaining about how often we have to cut the grass! Hmmmm, which is better? Shovel 8" of snow AGAIN or cut the grass AGAIN? (Some people are never satisfied!) ;o]

    1. Kelly - Good thing we all don't want to live in exactly the same spot, isn't it? That would make things so unbalanced the whole country would tip!! (And there would be no room for gardens. Or pastures. Or chicken houses. Oh, my.)

It wasn't warm in Iowa, but the sun was shining and THEY HAVE GROUND !!! No Snow!!!!!
(We now are BACK to the yard hydrant handle with snow---I swear it will never end)

    1. Sue - Well, we've gotta send it somewhere. Not my fault if it finds its way to Michigan! We're supposed to get freezing rain tonight and into tomorrow. Sure am glad we don't have to go anywhere. That ice stuff is not nice. How much snow do you still have on the ground? How much do we have? WAY TOO MUCH!
