I Am So Stoopid!

I could just kick myself in the patoot (if I were limber enough) for wasting most of yesterday afternoon on a big project that was totally unnecessary.

I was eager to get my "new" TV set up in my quilt room.  ("But why?" she asks herself.  "You haven't spent any time in there for-EVER!")  This new TV I've acquired stands two inches taller than the old relic I've had in there.  So that meant I'd have to raise the shelves above where it will sit.  This was not a happy thought because 1) I'd have to unload everything from the shelves, and 2) I'm short so raising the shelf would mean more stretching and more frequent hauling out of a stool to reach objects that would now be two inches farther out of my grasp.

This is the old TV and shelf placement.

Empty shelves ready to be removed and hiked up to their new spot.

Shelves raised, new TV in place and nearly everything else put back where it belongs.

If you look closely at the TV set, you'll see that the front of it rises a little higher than the shelf edge behind it.  That's because when I measured it, I didn't take into consideration that it is only the very front part of the TV that wouldn't fit under the shelf in its old, lower position and that same front part of the television set DOESN'T EVEN GO UNDER THE SHELF!!

Talk about not carefully looking at the whole picture.  Dumb and dumber!  All by myself.

I think I'll sign off now and go see what else I can find to waste time on.

  1. This sounds like something I would do ... lol. Oh well, I bet the shelves got a good dusting anyway.

    1. DFW - A dusting? I practically had to shovel off the yuck. Where does all that stuff come from anyway?

    2. I know! We leave our Country House (surrounded by dirt roads) somewhat dusted & come back to what feels like inches of dust on everything. If I could bottle & sell it I'd be rich!

  3. I would have found a new tv location before that. But hey .... thanks for not mentioning you did it because it was raining and too wet to be outside. See ya, I am off to join the Tour de Fleece.

    1. Tombstone Livestock - I'm sorry, but yes, it was raining . . . again. Sorry.

I kinda wish we quilters had something comparable to your Tour de Fleece. (Maybe we do, but I'm not aware of it.)

  4. Amazing! You have done a great job. I wish my quilting room looked like yours. I really need to get mine organized. Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. Catsngrams - I have to admit when I'm working in there it gets pretty messy. But I do have to stop every now and then and put things back in order . . . at least enough so that I feel okay about it!

  5. Oh My....on the positive side your shelves were dusted and you've a reminder of what is actually up there???? NO? Well sorry, tried to find a positive in the situation. But ....honestly I can't tell you how many times I've done something like this only to kick myself later!

    1. Katidids - You're absolutely right, Katie. The shelves needed a good cleaning and I'm glad I sorted through the books and other things on the shelves while I was at it. So it was a positive. There is almost always a positive in everything if we just remember to look for it!

  6. You could always leave the tv completely out of the room and not waste time and brain on mindless non-necessities - like watching tv - it is not necessary to be entertained every second of the day and think of the time you would save - and the more work you would get done - and you could actually think while you quilt

    1. Anonymous - Leaving the TV out of the room would certainly be an option for anyone who wanted to do that.

  7. On the other hand you got to show off how pretty the shelves look all tidy and organized.

  9. Sometimes I just go into my sewing room to "fondle" and "tweak" things in there. Kind of a woman cave thing. It usually brings inspiration and ideas. So don't consider it wasted time but rather me time to "play" with your books, fabrics, and supplies :-)

    1. Freedom Acres Farm - I should do that more often than I do. My quilt room is the only place I have that is mine and mine alone. (Mwa-ha-ha-ha.) We gals need our "caves", too.

    1. Stephanie - Since I had to have my husband's help to move those 2" thick, 8' long planks (I mean shelves), I haven't yet told him yet that they didn't need to be moved at all. Thanks for your vote of confidence (!), but I still feel like a dummy. :o)
