The Place is Falling Apart!
I opened the wood stove in the kitchen right before dinner tonight to add another log . . .
. . . and, karumba, half the gasket around the door fell off!
We ignored it until after we ate, then Papa Pea applied a new layer of stick 'em and put the gasket back in place.
Now to let it dry and see if that did the trick.
Wonder what's next?

Looks like you're having 'one of those days'. Hope the sticky stuff stuck. We need some around our outdoor oven door. The 1200 degree guarantee didn't work.

DeleteGlad that was "only" what happened. I first say your photo and thought the entire DOOR had fallen off! I have that fear all the time, like it will probably happen when I've got the stove chocked full of white-hot-burning logs.

Carolyn - Ha! Great to know I'm not the only one who thinks about the wood stove door falling off! The door on the Jotul stove is on a track (very ingenious idea) that allows it to slide all the way UNDER the stove so you can put a fire screen on the opening and enjoy an open fire! We LOVE the feature and use it A LOT!
DeleteI hope the fix works. Everything we own is starting to age fast and I'm getting very worried about what is next to explode or implode on us.

DeleteWhy is it 'when it rains,it pours' it seems?!!! We heard a sermon once on that, and the young man finally decided the best thing to do was say 'Hallelujah'.... we say 'Hallelujah' around here a lot.... :)

DeleteIt's amazing how many things are falling apart! Myself included. And it's amazing how many things you have to know in order to get everything in working order again! I swear, if a homesteader had to list everything he/she did, could do, or will do, it would give Moby Dick a run for its money!

ReplyDeleteErin - Do you know EVERY single time, something goes wonky or needs to be fixed I think of you?! What would Erin do? Granted, Papa Pea is NOT deployed (!), but by thinking of you and your way of handling things, I can either take care of it myself or offer a good suggestion to hubby. You are my hero!!

ReplyDeleteVal - You have had a bad stretch lately. I can never decide whether it's better to get all of the bad stuff over with in a short period and then have a reprieve or if we could handle it better if it were more spread out.
