It's just starting to get light outside now and I'm hoping the snow keeps on so we can watch it fall today.
Looks like we may have about 4-5" of new snow so far. The falling flakes of snow in the above picture almost look like lights on the trees, don't they?
There's not much that is more beautiful than freshly fallen snow.

I scoured some cook books last night looking for a new soup recipe to try.
This is our last Soup Sunday coming up this weekend so I'd like to find a good one to share.
Also saw a recipe for French Bread I want to try. Always looking for that special one that is better than the rest!

Of course, a lovely snow day would be perfect for sitting in front of an open fire and completing the very last block of the last strip of my knitted afghan.
I'm actually getting eager to weave in all the ends and start to (try to!) sew the strips together.

Oh, and I finally picked up the vegetable glycerin at our co-op yesterday that I ordered so I can make up some of the homemade toothpaste Carolyn over at Krazo Acres shared with us. I'd like to get that mixed up today so we can begin using it.

Ugh. But then there's the mess on my desk top . . .
. . . that could use some serious attention.

Just another day when I don't have to wonder how to fill my hours.
Wouldn't change it for anything.
Boy, I'm a little jealous...we could sure use some of that snow. It bypassed us again last night and all we got was temps in the teens. It's supposed to get to the 40's again today...crazy.
ReplyDeleteI'm going tonight to take a little knitting lesson from a friend. Excited about that--been wanting to learn to knit for a long time, tried to teach myself with a book, but apparently had a fool for a teacher. lol
I used to cook for a little Italian restraunt and made 2-3 soups a day...was always looking for new and different recipes. I have an old set of Farm Journal cookbooks and one is called Family Favorites. I found a recipe for a Ham and green bean chowder using home canned beans that I made and it got rave reviews. There were customers who wanted a schedule of when I was going to make it so they could come eat THEN. lol It's a very simple hearty soup. Also have a recipe for a cor chowder that's pretty awesome...I don't make it much because it has cream cheese and heavy cream in it and the Irishman is sensitive to dairy. But lordy, is it ever good...
Enjoy your day of serene snowyness...
Akannie - I think you are wise to have a live person teach you how to knit. That's undoubtedly the best way. So much easier than trying to go by the illustrations in a book! Plus you can't ask questions of a book nor can the book "see" what you've done wrong and correct it.
DeleteI have a couple of old Farm Journal cook books and I love them. Wanna share one of your soup recipes on Sunday?
I guess I will have to start my own souper Sunday if or when I ever find my cookbook, LOL. Love the snow on the trees, almost looks like a Christmas card. My desk has more paper / junk than yours ..............
ReplyDeleteTombstone Livestock - I haven't made any progress on my desk yet today. Wanna see who gets theirs organized first?
DeleteThere is nothing prettier than freshly fallen snow. I have to say I'm a wee bit jealous~the snow has only flirted with just a few flakes for us..now we're back to rain. Blah.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your finished afghan. I'm a total spaz with knitting needles...even my grandmother gave up on me. Thankfully, my children took to it, so I'm living my knitting dreams through them! :)
Kim - Don't know about you but in the winter I want snow. Not rain! Ugh.
DeleteI knit like crazy as my daughter was growing up but she never had any interest in learning herself. BUT she does crochet and she's a whiz at it. Never uses a pattern even. I guess we all have our talents!
we are expecting a slight snow/sleet mix tonight and then sunny 40-50 for the next few days here in eastern NC...your picture of snow looks nic though!
ReplyDeleteKathryn D. Duke - Just so your snow/sleet mix doesn't cause any icy conditions! If you do get 40-50 for the next few days it should melt quickly.
DeleteOMG, the LAST Soup Sunday??!! I've only entered ONE boring soup. Guess the pressure is on to get a REAL good one this weekend, hugh?
ReplyDeleteCarolyn - Yup, it's now or never, Kiddo! I still haven't come up with one to have for Sunday. We'd both better get on the stick!
DeleteWe got another inch of snow last night. I just wish it would snow in the day instead of only in the dead of night. I miss those days when you can sit and watch the snow coming down.
ReplyDeleteGuess I have to make soup since this will be the last one. What are you going to do next? Salad Sunday, Savory Sunday, or maybe Meaty Monday?
Sparkless - Our snow didn't last much past dawn this morning either. Drat.
DeleteI don't know if anyone is interested in continuing with our once a week posting of a recipe with a theme. What you think?
We got the sleet/freezing rain that shut everything down our way today. To be in the 50's tomorrow. Strange. You're making good progress on your knitted afghan.... can hardly wait to see the finished product. That's a good sign that you're getting excited about weaving in the loose ends!! Sounds like you are pleasantly busy. LOVE the snow falling photo at the beginning of your post!!!!
ReplyDeleteLisa - For such a good sized project, I feel like the afghan has progressed quickly. However, the other day my daughter said, "It seems like you've been working on that forever!" I was smart enough (this time) to leave the ends of the yarns long enough so I can thread them on a needle . . . and weave them in. That goes so much faster than using a crochet hook.
DeleteWe had a little wind today but much of the snow stayed on the trees. Very pretty.
Be careful in your sleet/freezing rain. Ugh, not nice.
I too have so many projects I need to be doing, but it's snowing and the light out this evening is so pretty that I'm just staring out the window doing... nothing!
ReplyDeleteErin - You don't get snow that accumulates that often so you should take time to just watch it to your heart's content. Hugs.
ReplyDeletejealous!! They keep promising snow down here in the twin cities - then nothing happens. I think I saw two dozen flakes this morning, and that was it! Grr! Not fair to have all this cold and no snow to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAimee - Do you know how many times in the past couple of years you in the Twin Cities have gotten big snowfalls with nary a flake way up here?? That about drove snow-lovin' hubby and me crazy! Unfortunately, you are having a very dry winter . . . which isn't good. :o(
DeleteYeah, these days it seems like if you want snow you have to go to Kansas or Texas! Ah, climate change. =(
DeleteAimee - Ain't that the truth?! Snow in places where they usually don't get snow, and dry winters where we're prepared for it!
DeleteI was actually thinking the other day if you ever got your sweater done. Is that still on the needles?
ReplyDeleteJane - The blue sweater is off the needles. And has been for some time. I've been avoiding it though (you could tell, huh?) because the knitted band that finishes off the front by going up one side, across the neck back and down the other side is pulling the whole sweater all wonky. I picked up and knit exactly the number of stitches called for in the pattern but . . . the only thing that may make it look right is if it all blocks out in good shape. Since I've had a bee in my bonnet to finish the afghan, I've put off dealing with the sweater. But now that I know you're gonna start using a cattle prod on me, I may be pushed into working on it!
DeleteWe got some icy stuff today, so I stayed in, in my jammies and spent the day with a crochet hook and Netflix :)
ReplyDeleteStephanie - Substitute knitting needles for crochet hook and that sounds like the kind of day I could handle!
DeleteOh, the photo's of the snow look so peaceful! I don't envy you needing to layer up to go out in it though. The blanket is coming along great. Before you know it you'll be snuggled up keeping toasty warm with it
ReplyDeleteKatidids - The landscape still looks lovely blanketed with the new snow. Much of it has stuck on the trees, too.
ReplyDeleteWith luck I think I'll finish the knitting on my afghan tomorrow. I hope.
