You're probably really sick of hearing me go on about my cherry-tomatoes-on-steroids, but I just can't get over them.
You can see by my sewing gauge that many of them are a full two inches across.
I'm not bragging, because I had nuttin' to do with their over-large size. As I've mentioned before, they are the same variety (Washington Cherry) I've grown before and they were always . . . well, cherry sized. I don't have any other tomatoes in my garden that these could have crossed with to explain why they are so much bigger this year. It just mystifies me.
Good progress made on the plumbing in the garage today. Certainly not done yet but we're much farther along than we were this morning, that's for sure. Lots of work completed in the dreaded crawl space.
I'll close with this picture I took about 20 minutes ago at 6:30. (Image straight out of the camera.) Yep, there is a storm heading our way. Ominous looking sky, eh? It's not quite as dark right now, a gentle rain is falling and thunder-boomers can be heard in the distance. So far, not anything too scary. Hope we get a good soaking out of it minus the predicted winds and hail!
wow that's a neat photo of the storm front, and don't ask questions on those tomatoes, just enjoy - they look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteErin - Will do on the maters. We are now eating tomatoes and slicing cucs for every meal. Well, almost!
DeleteThe storm looks cool! And your tomatoes are awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteKelly - We couldn't believe how DARK it was with those clouds rolling through!
DeleteMutant tomatoes!! I hope your storm isn't too bad. Awesome picture.
ReplyDeleteSparkless - Mutant, indeed! Storm blew right by (or over?) us. Didn't even get enough rain to register on the rain gauge.
DeleteHmmmmm, let's see, you saved seeds from last years tomatoes and added a lot of chicken manure .... or you bought new seeds and someone slipped in GMO's...............
ReplyDeleteTombstone Livestock - Tomato seeds right out of the packet, dated 2008. (I believe in getting my money's worth out of a packet of seeds!) GMO's? Nobody better be messin' with my seeds!!!
DeleteThe size of those tomatoes really shows next to an egg. Wow. Slice them babies up on a BLT!
ReplyDeleteI use ANY excuse to eat bacon.
And chocolate.
I need an intervention-LOL!
Awesome storm front. Hope you get some good gentle rains.....
Sue - We HAVE been using them on BLTs! (And everything else.)
DeleteThe rain last night didn't amount to diddly-squat. Drat!
P.S. You put CHOCOLATE on your BLTs??
Maybe you have mutant tomatoes? LOL! Love that shot of the sky, it should be framed!
ReplyDeleteStephanie - Mutant tomatoes or too much fertilizer in the bed?? Who knows.
DeleteThanks for the appreciation of the storm sky. It was awesome, for sure!
Those maters look wonderful! Save those seeds for sure 8-D That storm sky looks beautiful, bet it brought some nice cool breezes. Ohh! Yey for the project progress. Bet your chompin at the bit to get it hooked up...wait, that means you have to use it! So, whats in the works in the quilt shop?
ReplyDeleteKatidids - I've not been doin' good at all lately as far as making it into my quilt room. 'Bout the only thing that's been happening is that the vacuum cleaner has been in there for three days because I want to clean the mess on the floor. I've gotta do something about getting back in there a leetle more often!
DeleteMy German Cherry tomatoes didn't do well. But, I gave my cousin a few of the same plants & his are big like yours & are still producing, even with our southern heat. He estimates his 5 plants have produced over a 1000 tomatoes. They are sick of them. I picked some on Monday & am going to try my hand at dehydrating them.
ReplyDeleteDFW - How about if next year you give your cousin all the plants and let him raise them for you?! I've been thinking of dehydrating some of mine, too.
DeleteMy tomatoes are kaput for the year, so I will drool over yours, and what big ones they are too!
ReplyDeleteThe Weekend Homesteader - I went out and looked at my bed today. There must be a couple hundred (yes, really) tomatoes on those two plants and about half of them are ready to be picked. Heeeelllppp, I'm drowning in tomatoes! (Not a bad thing to have happen up here near the tundra!)
DeleteWow! Maybe it's because of the 'aged' seeds? I use my seeds until they're gone - no matter how old they are! That shot of the storm is something else! We were supposed to get a 'good soaking' from the remnants of Isaac, but I'd be surprised if we got a half inch. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteSudan - Yup, uh-huh, that must be it. You've just got to let your seeds get old enough to grow big and strong! We got nothing from the storm. Didn't even hardly wet the ground. And we do need it again. Sigh from here, too.
DeleteI have been saving the seed from cherry tomatoes that are similar to your large cherry.
ReplyDeleteMine came up as a volunteer several years ago and are a result of some hybrid going to seed. The vines grow like weeds and will climb up fences on their own. I like to can them for a winter snack.
Sunnybrook Farm - Welcome and thanks for commenting! I should save some seed from this years tomatoes to plant next year alongside some of the seeds still remaining in the packet and see how they compare. I think I'm going to have enough to make some sauce. Yippee!
Deletejudy - "Hi!" right back at cha! ;o}
ReplyDeleteI am impressed by those tomatoes! That looked like some storm coming in.
