I've been awake the past two nights from about 1:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Can I blame it on the (almost) full moon?
Tonight I am feelin' tired. My wagon is draggin'. (It's a produce wagon. Haha.)
'Tis the time of year when I begin to fear the garden and harvests from the garden are taking over my life.
I'm so grateful our house stays relatively cool inside. But it's way too hot outside.
It's so hot outside that I had to pace myself all day so I didn't pass out between the beans and squash.
Not much energy to expend, but things had to be done.
Currently blueberries need to be picked every other day.
Raspberries need to be picked every other day, sometimes every day.
I picked and processed shell peas again today. I may get one more picking and then they will be done.
I got the first picking of green beans today.
I could have/should have picked yellow beans this afternoon, but I ran out of time . . . and gas. Have I mentioned I'm tired? And it's so hot out there. I promised the yellow beans I'd get to them tomorrow.
After a hot shower and fresh jammies, I think I'll feel better. Maybe I'll even have enough energy to make my list for tomorrow . . . and crawl into bed. And sleep straight through the whole night. I hope.

Well since you are in a different time zone I hope you are relaxing in your jammies right now and get a good night's sleep.
Sleep well!
It's while reading a post like this that I can feel ALMOST glad my garden has all but failed this year. I won't be having much of a preservable harvest this fall, I don't think.
Darn it on the sleep thing! Ugh. Hope you are able to get that hamster mind off the wheel and rest well.
I know what you mean. It was so hot today - I took a break though. I had got caught up on my pickles and beans. Doin cherries and peaches from the store tomorrow again and then I'll go back at beans and cukes :-) Oh and I've been awake at night too. Overtired? Can't relax? And too hot to sleep :-(
It's hot here too with no sign of it cooling down. We pretty much have a heat wave all Aug every Aug if a heat wave is defined by it being 30+C for at least 3 days.
I hope you get a good nights rest tonight Mama Pea. And I hope we both get a couple of cool days so we can enjoy being outside.
Hope you feel better tomorrow,it's soooo hot here.I tried to take a nap this afternoon, yep like that worked! We are having triple digits all the way into next week.
Hope you get over that streak soon. I had a few nights last week that I only got 2 hours of sleep in. It's HORRIBLE around mid-afternoon. But I wouldn't take a nap, cuz I wanted to make sure I'd be tired enough at bedtime. DIdn't work. Guess it runs it's course, but it sure is miserable when the garden is calling.........
The funny thing is that we wait the whole rest of the year for this. Summers temps, garden bounty, fresh air. But we all get so tired of it, that we are dreaming of winter. I think this was just a horrible summer across the nation. Come on fall :)
I sure hope you get some rest :) No one deserves it more than you!
I'm with Jane! Hope you got a good night's sleep after all.
I don't think it's fair - not getting enough sleep and getting too many things to do in your day. Let's hope it's the moon and, as it phases out, your sleep phases in. Even with sleep, this hot, hot weather just takes the starch out of our aprons, doesn't it? Hope you get some relief on all fronts, dear Mama Pea.
Hope you're getting some sleep! Although I don't envy your fatigue, I do envy the fact that you're picking stuff out of the garden! I've been getting some peppers and maybe I'll pick that 8" yellow squash that just appeared overnight.
I know, Mama Pea...I'm with you.
And it still isn't cooling much down here, and absolutely no rain, so....I'm finishing up peaches from our trees today, so at least that will be done. And it's too hot to get my 2nd planting of green beans ion still...sigh...
Boy, you and Jerry ,up all night worrying ,you about peter rabbit and Jerry worrying I won't hear him if he has another low blood sugar attack and become unconscious like last time ,I promised him I'm armed and dangerous with his new syringe the VA sent me .I even practiced on a lemon. so I'm set to go ,plus I'm a light sleeper so I guess I'll have to knock him out with a good boring movie take care and get some rest young lady
Tombstone Livestock - When I first read your comment last night, I WAS indeed relaxing in my jammies . . . and I did get a good night's sleep. Thanks!
Patty - I'm getting much more out of my garden than I thought I would . . . for which I'm really very thankful even though I think I've been grumping and groaning about how busy the harvesting/preserving makes life right now. ('Twould be easier if it wasn't so darn hot, eh?)
LindaCO - My sleeplessness definitely goes in spurts. I'll have 3-4 nights of being wide awake (but really too tired to get up and do anything worthwhile!) for 2-3 hours in the middle of the night and then I'll start sleeping good again. Sure wish I knew what causes it. I know for sure it's not from "improper" eating or not getting enough exercise!
Freedom Acres Farm - I think maybe we keep moving and push so hard during the day and know there's more of the same the next day that we can't shut off during the night. What a hamster wheel to be on!
Sparkless - Usually when we hit the middle of August up here, the nights really start to cool down and we can almost feel fall in the air. This summer has been so blasted hot for so long, I wonder if that will change, too?
Annnightflyer - I did feel better today after having slept through last night. I'm the same way with naps in the afternoon . . . usually can't fall asleep ('cause I'm thinking of everything I SHOULD be doing) and if I do doze off, I have anxiety-filled dreams! Best not to try.
I should stop complaining about the heat because we haven't hit triple digits yet . . . although I sometimes wonder if we haven't out in the middle of the garden!
Sue - Ain't that the truth? When you feel so horrible mid-afternoon? Some people say sleep is over-rated but when you know you're not getting enough . . . ugh. Good thing I'm not operating heavy machinery at those times!
Jane - I know! What the heck do we plant a garden for if we don't want to have to harvest it?? It's just that it all comes at once . . . and it's usually during hot weather when you really don't want to make great steamy clouds of humidity in the kitchen! And let's face it; gardening, from start to finish, is HARD work. Including the preserving when you're concentrating on doing a good job so you don't accidentally kill off the whole family!
Stephanie - I think your good vibrations must have worked because I did sleep well last night. Wanna help me along again tonight??
Lisa - Like so many other things we gals do, I don't think we think enough about the fact that harvesting and preserving food is as hard work as it really is! Do we need a support group? (Yes.)
Susan - Yep, that's me: Limp aproned.
CR - I have zucchini that are getting over-sized that are just begging to be made into Zucchini Bread but I so do not want to put on my oven!
I am duly ashamed of getting cranky about harvests from the garden. I know so many others would love to have their garden producing like mine is. I'm going to go stand in the time-out corner now.
Akannie - That's the problem, isn't it? How do you plant fall crops when it's so gawd-awful hot? I keep picturing the little seeds or sprouts burning up in the soil!
judy - I had to laugh at you being "armed and dangerous!" I know you can take care of ANYTHING so Jerry has no need to worry.
it is called menopause
Qwaynt - And it lasts HOW many decades????
Taking over indeed! It's why I'm catching up on blogs for a whole week LOL!
