A Small Celebration

Although about 6 days past her actual birthday, the Pea Family got together last night to celebrate Chicken Mama's special day.

We had a simple dinner of a big tossed salad and garlic-cheese bread so we had more room for cake!

Birthday hopes and wishes all around were for a much, much, much better coming year for our little girl.

After dinner and cake and opening presents (including one I had for Christmas but hid so well I didn't find it until a couple of weeks ago), we adjourned to the living room for Family Reading Night. I think we've missed this night for the past month (or maybe two?) but I hope we can get back on schedule now and keep up with our once a month reading together because we all really enjoy it. Our choices of reading material never fail to be varied and bring up discussion and conversation that we wouldn't have in the ordinary course of day to day communication.

I need to get outside right away this morning to do what needs to be done before it gets too hot. We've got another two days of high heat forecast after the past couple of days of a (blessed) cooling off.

It seems to me that summer starts to slip away very rapidly after we pass the 4th of July and there are still many projects to be done around her before cold weather sets in so I need to make a list, check it twice and get on with it!

  1. Good to see that CM can still produce a smile what with all she has been through. I feel for her ... and for you as her Mom. It's hard to watch our children struggle for whatever reason. She is definitely due for some "good times". And boy, you sure do put in the work day, don't you? Now if I could just pop over and taste a bit of that strawberry jam, all would be right with the world. And yes, I also cannot believe that it is almost the middle of July but that is probably because I also have a July birthday like CM does. Poor you and poor my Mom having to be at the ending stage of pregnancy at the hottest time of year. Gold medals to you both.

    1. Karen L. - I'll bet giving birth in August was even hotter than July! (So maybe your mom and I did okay.) The July 4th/5th that I was in labor with CM, we were getting some nice rain in Illinois. That helped cool things down.

  2. Glad to see that Chicken Mama finally got her cake. I hope she has a much better year too, she's been through enough.

I hope it's not too hot for you Mama Pea and you get all you wanted to get done accomplished today.

If a heat wave is three days long we'll be having a heat week!

    1. Sparkless - Our brief cooling down period is no more. The heat and humidity has come back and we were in the 90s again today. Gak. I gave up in the garden in early afternoon because I wasn't feelin' so good. (I may be getting smart for a change!)

  3. Gald to hear you were able to celebrate together. She's had a rough year and at this point it can only go up for her.

I know what you mean about summer sliding away fast after the 4th. I'm pulling seeds for a fall garden already. Kinda sad in a way.

    1. Katidids - Okay, I think we all need to get a program going to slow down time a wee bit so we can relax and enjoy each and every day more. Sound like a good idea?
