We're battening down the hatches and putting an extra log on the fire tonight. The forecast is for a temp of -13 degrees tonight with a bit of a wind (of course) giving us a wind chill of 25-40 below tomorrow morning. (I always think of the kids waiting for the school buses in that kind of weather. Brrrr!)
A similar night is expected for Friday into Saturday morning also. Saturday is expected to warm up to 11 degrees above during the day.
I don't think we have to go anywhere off the property during the next couple of days so we'll wear triple layers and our ear-flap hats when outside doing chores.
(I think it's probably a good thing we don't have to go off the property looking like this, don't you?)
Is it winter now?
Thanks for making me actually laugh out loud just now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely hat you have...and no, you don't look crazy at all. LOL Good idea, hunker down, stay warm, and be safe. You have it colder than us. It's suppose to get down to 5 degrees but that's above 0 so I'll feel for you. Stay safe and warm!
ReplyDeleteYou two are certainly sporting some purposeful hats! Smart to stay warm and to also have such a great sense of humor - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhere DO you get those crazy photos from?? I bet you just googled "crazy homesteading people" and this wacky picture came up and you copied and pasted it onto your blog, right? You've got to tell us the name of the website where you come up with all these wacky photoshopped pictures!
ReplyDeletehehehehehehe
Oh, I guess I shouldn't be complaining that it's "only" going to be 47 tomorrow....but hey, it'll be down to 20 at night!
I swear, I don't know how you northern folk do it.
You two are adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteDang that's cold! Hey you guys look great! matter of fact you look like ah couple here named Earl and Mable! Was 10 degrees when I went to bed last night and the cold cold is arriving here too. Batten your hatch and throw another log on the fire Ma!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering...your profile picture shows your back. Nice to see you turned around LOL!!
ReplyDeleteYou can be so funny! But I don't envy you the cold! My goodness, I would stay bundled up and inside with that kind of weather. Stay warm! Maybe I should send you some of my warm weather that we are having.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture ... Throw another quilt on the bed, fill the hot water bottles, try to stay warm, brrrrr, it was a record high here in California today in the '70's. However we still have not had any measureable rain .... going to be a long hot summer I am afraid, hay is already $19 a bale for alfalfa. Bought 50 lbs of pasture seed today, hope it rains soon ...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, to funny. Gotta keep those ears warm! Here I was excited winter is finally coming to us with snow...and your freezing your rear off....(Oh, how we wish right) Keep em toasty!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Great picture. I hope you both stay cozy warm.
ReplyDeletemade me laugh also, cute pic.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I love that picture!! LOL!! Boy and I thought we were going to get cold this weekend with temps in the single digits. Stay warm, stay cozy in the house, and enjoy the wood stove;)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Love the photo. You need to put that on a Christmas card!
ReplyDeleteI guess we all have those--"stay at home" clothes (AKA-comfortable!)
A few months back, when we attended a symphony with some "classy" neighbors, they expressed surprise when we showed up. I guess they've never seen us "spiffed up". Funny.
IS THAT WHY THE KIDS KIDDIE POOL SOUNDS LIKE A FLYING SAUCER UNDER THE DECK,I MUST HAVE FORGOT TO LISTEN TO THE WEATHER REPORT,NOT THATS THERE'S ANY SNOW COMING? WHO ARE THE 2 IN THE PHOTO,LOOKS FAMILIAL SOMEHOW ?PUT AN EXTRA PAIR OF WOOLLIES ON.
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Gawd. WHAT were you two smoking??? And how many pictures did you have to take to get that one? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh My Goodness! The wind blew like crazy ALL night long and is still going just nuts out there. I have to go out and chore the animals soon! Will you borrow me your hat?? Love the picture.
ReplyDeleteBetter watch out - Chicken Mama might just put that picture on one of her cards!
ReplyDeleteSounds like it is a very good thing that you have all that wood in your wood shed. But do the chickens and geese have a little wood stove too?
LOL....I'm still laughing at Chicken Mama's comment!....great pic lol
ReplyDeleteLove it!-"M"
ReplyDeleteBrrrr...The wind was blowing the insulating plastic on the windows all night and I kept thinking I was hearing mice! It's winter now. At least for the next two days. lol
ReplyDeleteLindaCO - What?! That was a picture we just had professionally taken to use for our next anniversary!
ReplyDeleteRea - We only hit -5 early this morning but the wind is still raging. Darn wind.
2 Tramps - Yes, we're such a photogenic couple! And the hats add so much.
Carolyn Renee - "Crazy homesteading people?" Nope. I googled stoopid people in dumb hats!
You need to come on up here so you can experience real winter time. I know you'd love it!
I'll Call You Jane - Aw, thanks! It's a great picture of me, but especially good of Papa Pea. :o}
Nancy - Wow! Ten degrees is COLD for you! This frigid weather must be widespread.
Now you know why my profile picture is taken from the back!
Wendy - Actually this weather is more like what we normally have all winter long. Our temps of 20s-30s-40s this winter are really unheard of. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be like this and then we leave real winter weather behind again. Crazy! Just crazy.
Tombstone Livestock - OMG, $19 a bale for alfalfa hay. That's the all-time high I've heard of. I'm praying you get the rain you need or it's not gonna be good for those out your way trying to feed livestock. :o( (Is the bale for $19 one of those small round bales or is it - gulp - a regular square bale?)
Katidids - We would have trouble if this deep freeze stayed around long because we don't have the snow cover to protect water lines and septic systems. Dang.
ReplyDeleteI could use a little "freezing my rear off" I'll admit. Although I have a friend who suffers chilblains and her posterior actually aches when it gets cold. No fun!
Sparkless - We are staying warm, thanks. Although we did NOT have to sleep in our hats. Thankfully.
Blackberry brambles - We laughed a lot last night getting that picture, too! One of the best ones we've ever had taken. ;o}
Stephanie - All of a sudden, we're chucking quite a bit of wood in the wood stove. But it's doing the trick so no complaints!
Sue - Did your friends recognize you right away "all spiffed up?" (I'm not sure I HAVE any clothes to get all spiffed up in!!)
judy - Yep, this nasty wind seems to be very wide spread. It's still making things less than pleasant here this morning. Sure wish we could get a nice dumping of snow for protection of plants, trees and all other things that could freeze.
ReplyDeleteChicken Mama - We took this one picture and realized we couldn't improve on it!
Freedom Acres Farm - Hat is in the mail! You will undoubtedly look better in it than I do!!
Jen - Well, thanks a lot, Friend, for giving Chicken Mama an idea!
Yep, the poultry has their own wood stove. But, man, is cutting wood that small a pain!
dr momi - Papa Pea was inhaling ashes this morning. He opened the stove in the workshop/garage just as a down draft from this terrific wind hit and a huge cloud of ashes blew out and covered him! Yuck.
"M" - Are ya feeling the cooollldd this mornin'??
odiie - We have to toughen up and endure this for one more day after today. Good thing we're hardy stock, huh?
I needed a good laugh this morning. It's supposed to get down to 25 here tomorrow night, and I think that is frigid. I can't imagine negative temperatures!
ReplyDeleteThe Weekend Homesteader - I suppose it's all in what we get used to. Have to admit, though, that this cold snap is kinda hard on us because we've had such a warm winter so far and we aren't hardened off yet! Glad I could give you a laugh! We laughed a lot last night posing for the picture!
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to have to save "that" photo for when I get blue and need cheering up. Hilarious!!! Although, when we lived on our farmette, I used to have a hat like that to use when walking the dogs. Only needed it off and on through our NC winters. They do keep you warm though ... even though my husband though I looked like a doofus! For some reason I find that if I can keep my neck warm, I can bear the cold. I just keep crocheting scarves. Loved Chicken Mamas comment. Poor thing. What she has to put up with!!!
ReplyDeleteKaren L. - I am exactly the same way. I can have a super-warm hat on and heavy jacket but if that skin below my ears and under my chin is hangin' out, I am not comfortable in frigid weather. But put on my flap-hat and button it under my chin and I'm all set! (Let's face it, this type of hat is the ultimate in doofusdom. I don't think anybody looks good in them!)
ReplyDeleteI am going to send that to the DMV and have it put on your drivers license :)
ReplyDeleteLove the photo! LOL. I know it seems cold now, since it's been so warm. I just remind myself what it usually is like....
ReplyDeleteJane - I don't know how it happened, but my current picture on my driver's license is actually decent. Now, Papa Pea's on the other hand . . . believe me, if you substituted the one on this blog post, it would be a big improvement!
ReplyDeleteJulie - And we're scheduled to go right back up to our unusually warm winter weather starting again tomorrow. So strange!
LOLOL. Winter finally arrived here too, last night, though we only got down to 18 degrees. :)
ReplyDeletethat photo is priceless!!
ReplyDeleteLeigh - ONLY down to 18?? That's pretty cold for you, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteErin - Having a copy framed and sent to you.
Well, thank goodness the two of you can laugh about it! I LOVE that picture!
