"Run, Mama Pea, Run! Stop being such an old sluggard or The Lazies are gonna getcha!"
We here in the Pea household are really taking it easy this week between Christmas and New Year's.
There are a couple of social obligations I wouldn't mind getting taken care of this week. I mean what sounds better than having folks over for a quiet, casual evening of soup and homemade bread after all the rich food and sugar-laden goodies surrounding Christmas? On the other hand, just existing with no pressure of any kind feels really good right now, and I don't care if the phone doesn't ring or no one comes through the door for a good long while. Don't mean to sound anti-social, but I'll be happy putzing in my quilt studio, watching a couple of DVDs, and reading a new book I got for Christmas.
I even did the unthinkable this morning. I crawled back into bed! Well, first off I woke at 3:30 a.m. (you can take your whammy off me anytime, dear Sue), laid there until 4:45 trying to talk myself back into slumberland. Finally got up and played in my quilt studio until 7. Then slithered back into that cozy, comfy, warm bed for two more hours of sleep. Why did I do that? BECAUSE I COULD!
Now I'm on my second latte of the morning (how decadent will I become?) and am contemplating another stint of quilting. Leftover soup for lunch so I don't even have to think about that.
Still, every now and then, I find I have to get out my big stick and beat off the monkey voices that I hear yelling, "Run, Mama Pea, Run! The Lazies are gonna getcha!"
Sorry (lalalalala), I'm not LIS-tening. I AM lazy and I'm just not available for any work this week.
Sounds like you are doing just what you should be. But existing with no pressure? What is that?? And dear Sue has me up in the dark of night, too!
ReplyDeleteI am being lazy myself right now. I woke up way too early, was tired again by 8 am, and am now doing absolutely nothing and contemplating starting a book :)
ReplyDelete2 Tramps - Hey, are we all in the same time zone? We could have a phone conference set daily for the wee hours!! (And we'll charge it to Sue's phone bill.) ;o)
ReplyDeleteErin - You're contemplating starting a book? What's it going to be about? (Hahahaha, I crack myself up!)
Good for you Mama Pea. The kids and I barely are out of our jammies by noon the past three days. I have been cleaning and organizing but not much just what is necessary. I just sent the kids outside to shovel the little bit of snow that we got last night. The fresh air and exercise will do them good, and so will some good R&R for you and Papa Pea.
ReplyDeleteI would say you deserve this "lazy" time after all the work you have been doing for months! Hopefully it will recharge you batteries. Looking forward to seeing some quilting on your quilt blog (which by the way has had nothing posted since Feb. 21st. Yikes! I have started on a quilt too so let's quilt together.
ReplyDeleteGeez, that sounds wonderful. I long for the day where I am in my pjs all day long! Of course, that might frighten the sheep, but what the heck. That is a beautiful quilt on your chair, there, Missy.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are getting some time to enjoy the Holiday your way. And a little rest to end your hectic 2011 may just be what the doctor ordered.
ReplyDeleteSparkless - Hey, you got some snow! Great to hear.
ReplyDeleteKaren L. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. 'Tis my plan to get something up on my long-neglected quilt blog this week. Keep prodding me!
Susan - Carry food and your animals won't care what the heck you look like! The quilt is a Thimbleberries pattern and it's my "Christmas" quilt. I used to hang it on the wall over our bed around this time of year but this year I've decided to start "using" it!
Jane - Thanks, Dr. Jane! :o]
Nothing like a good case of the "Leisures". That's what WE call them. Doesn't sound quite so bad....
ReplyDeleteAnd I did not have a THING to do with the early wake up calls. Really. Someones been doing it to me---I've been up at ONE A.M. the past two nights. Four hours of sleep , 2 nights in a row. You can imagine my mood...........
I think some chocolate might help though---LOL!!!
Enjoy the "leisure" time!
I think we all need to let the lazies catch us once in a while. The week between Christmas and New Year's sounds like a good time to me! ...love that quilt.
ReplyDeleteGlad you get to relax for a while.
ReplyDeleteI HAVE BEEN TRYING TO COMMENT ALL WEEK-END,OH,ITS WED. OH DEAR,I'M WORSE OFF THAN I THOUGHT ,MAYBE IT IS I THAT SHALL RUN. ON A DIFFERENT NOTE ,WE HAD TO CALL 911 YESTERDAY BECAUSE THE NURSE AT THE VA TOLD ME TO SHE TALKED WITH JERRY AND THEN TO ME AND SAID CALL 911--HE GETS SILENT HEART ATTACKS -IT WAS A FALSE ALARM I THINK BECAUSE HE SEEMS OK BUT HE REFUSED TO GO EVEN THO THE PERIMEDICICS WANTED TO TRANSPORT HIM AND NOW JERRY IS MAD AT ME AND REALITY IS STARTING TO SINK IN-BEFORE JERRY HAD NO SYMPTOMS,NOT SURE WHY? BUT NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN,HEART PAINS,STOMACH ACHES,I FEEL DOOM MOMMA PEA. ONE SORT OF GOOD NEWS TODAY,BECCA IS FINALLY GOING HOME ,IF ONLY TO BE BACK ON FRIDAY. JERRY AND THE BABY ARE BONDING LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE,EVEN THO BABY RAYMOND TERRORIZE JERRY .THIS IS WHAT I HEAR"JUDY ,COME GET THE BABY,HE TEARING MY TABLE APART"
ReplyDeleteI am SO GLAD you are taking a break! Between the renovations and getting wood ready for the winter, you deserve it. Go away voices and leave Mama Pea alone:)
ReplyDeleteI always here my dear departed father's voice "Get up, don't waste the day!" which prevents me from sleeping in. Although I am not above taking a petite snooze after lunch :)
ReplyDeleteSue - Oh, yes! Being leisurely instead of lazy . . . well, that sounds SO much better. Why do we do these bad things to ourselves? Feel lazy rather than leisurely?? Time for ANOTHER change! Thanks, Sue.
ReplyDeletedr momi - Yup, maybe New Year's Day would regain some of it's significance and celebratory feel if we made the week before it more special! Thanks for complimenting the quilt.
LindaCO - Do ya think I could manage to carry the relaxing all the way through 2012?
judy - I wonder if possibly Jerry's "new" symptoms could just be a bit of stress surrounding the holidays. Don't let yourself jump to conclusions, it all could be just temporary. We all hope so.
Stephanie - You tell 'em, Steph!! ;o}
Sylvie - I think I still hear my father's voice admonishing me (as a child) to "get up and DO something" when I was sitting doing my crafty type stuff. He didn't understand how any of my putzing around like that could ever be profitable in the long run. Sigh.
LOL... I think we've all in the same boat...
ReplyDeleteThe postman brought your lovely package--thank you, thank you !
Be glad when the holidays are all done, so I can nap with no conscience..
Sounds like a very creative and restoritive (is that a word?) sort of day and very similar to mine only replace quilting with knitting. My 2nd cup is sitting on the counter waiting for me to dr. it up. =)
ReplyDeleteAkannie - Oh, so glad to hear the holiday cook books arrived! A little late for this year, but maybe you can peruse them prior to next holiday season. Have fun . . . and go take a nap. Now!
ReplyDeletewayside wanderer - Oh sure, restorative is indeed a word. That's what I'm working on finding currently: restorative sleep! It's still eluding me. Grumpf!
I could sit and knit all afternoon, too. Come to think of it, I missed my morning latte today! Is 2:18 p.m. too late to still get it? I could sit with it and finish knitting a miniature Christmas stocking that has yet to be finished. Wanna sit and knit together?
Ah! Sounds wonderful. I hope you get to enjoy so many more days like that in the new year.
ReplyDeleteJody - Thanks! I keep thinking I should be able to do so at this point of my life. (If I could just narrow my interests . . . However, just a few minutes ago I was visiting with a friend who's trying to get me involved in soap making. Argh, there's no hope!)
