Mama Tea Started It . . .

In her post this morning, Mama Tea over at A Farmish Kind of Life intimated she was going to eat homemade pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting for breakfast. (Gosh, does that sound good!)

Well, just so happens I baked a Honey Apple Pan Cake today . . . just to warm up the kitchen, mind you. (Keep this coffee cake in mind, please. It will reappear later in the post.)

For breakfast this morning I made a nice egg casserole dish and for lunch we ate the last of some homemade green split pea with vegetables soup. As we were finishing lunch, I mentioned that I needed to get the Swiss Steak I had planned for dinner going.

Hubby promptly commented, "I haven't felt very hungry today. Why don't we just have some of the cake you made for dinner?"

He did not have to suggest that twice. Or beg. Or twist my arm.

I figured if Mama Tea could indulge in her wholesome, homemade pumpkin bars for breakfast, we'd join in on the Sunday-take-it-easy-go-with-the-flow and have coffee cake for dinner.

Just for extra added nutrition (he claimed), Papa Pea had his in a bowl with fresh, raw milk.

We put a pretty good dent in the pan of cake. But, after all, it WAS our whole dinner, right?

What a great way to end a day...dessert:) It looks delicious! Tell Papa Pea he is a man after my own heart, I do custard pie for breakfast too...dessert is always best at the times when tradition says you are not "supposed" to have it lol.

I don't see any problem with cake for dinner, although I've never had it myself. I can't start now either or my kids would think all my harping on eating well was just talk. Drat!
I think I'll have cake for lunch when they are at school. What they don't know can't hurt me.

I figure it's one of the benefits of being an adult---I eat what I want when I want it. Of course, my doctor then has to pipe in with her nonsense!
:D

HA!!! I think your desserty supper looks just as good as my desserty breakfast. And if you compare it to what many people might have had for breakfast for supper (McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King...) I think we're worlds ahead of them on nutrition.

I had to giggle when I saw Papa Pea with his milk. That's just how I eat about every cake we make. And I get a lot of flack for it. :) He may not like crust, but he makes up for it with the milk over the cake. :)

Stephanie - And yet it's been drummed into our little heads since childhood that you can't eat dessert as a meal so that we always feel a titch guilty doing it!

Ruth - I'm just not sure it's such a good idea to dump such a sugar load on an empty stomach!

Sparkless - Wait until your kids are gone . . . you will feel freer about a lot of things!

Sue - Dr. Pea here says she thinks your attitude about it matters a lot. If it truly makes you happy, go for it!

Mama Tea - Puleeze, don't encourage him by saying you ruin cake by putting milk on it, too!

Erin - That particular coffee cake does send the most delicious aroma wafting through the house!

Word verification . . . nusatan? Maybe if we all eat dessert first, we'll be strong enough to take care of any ol' nusatan!

judy - So sorry to hear the bad news about your SIL. I pray she is comfortable and has an easy passing. You need to take care of yourself so your cold doesn't develop into something serious during this difficult time. Hugs.
