March Came in Like a Lamb

Well, sort of. We woke to a temperature in the low 20s this morning which was a whole hay of a lot warmer than it's been lately. We even had sunshine for a couple of hours.

The sun is high enough now and has enough power to create a little melting and dripping from roof lines. But then the sun takes a hike and the wind picks up, and this is what you get. You've heard of snow coming down sideways? These are icicles freezing sideways.

The forecast is for us to go back down to frigid temperatures again tonight and we're to be prepared for wicked wind chill advisories into tomorrow. Guess it's a little too soon to think about getting out the flip-flops yet.

Why is it that I automatically think that the sun will stay up, the breezes be warm and the temperatures mellow as soon as February gets the heck out of here? It's hard to get out of bed some days. Hope you're spending time in your quilting studio...

We traditionally get most of our snow in the month of March. So we're definitely still in winter, as you are. But we ALSO get a lot of melting in March so, despite everything, I think we're moving in the right direction! Stay warm and think June. Maybe July??

Your version of a lamb is still quite ferocious. I tend to think of 20 degrees as still on the lion side. Maybe a smaller lion, but still has a bite.

We get sideways rain, but I love your sideways icicles... Brrr!

Our weather comes up from the south often so we are supposed to be getting high winds later tonight. But our high wind is nothing like most places, pretty whimpy really.
Sideways icicles, that's a new one! LOL!

El Nina is sure making this a long cold winter.

Jane - Up here if the lion isn't hailing, snowing, sleeting or showing a temp of a minus number, we call him a lamb!

Ruth - At least it was warm enough today to cause a little melting which made the icicles! (Gotta be grateful for small things.)

Sparkless - Now let's hope we get a warm enough summer with adequate rain!

Is it me or has this winter just seemed to drag on? I am so ready for those flip flops, to feel the warm dirt in my hands, to pick fresh asparagus and to not have to take these goats out every morning at 6:00!
Well, the sun is shining and there is some strength to it. I know spring WILL come.

Glad you are showing signs of warmer temps and more snow, I remember last year there was such a threat of wildfires, hopefully you will have lots of snow melt this year for the forests and garden! Watch out for those iceicles!

meemsnyc - It's hard to remember that 20 degrees is very cold for others. Up here we don't even consider it cold unless we go below zero!

Jen - You've probably made a wise decision. We're in for the yuckiest part of winter from now until spring!

odiie - And I noticed that at 6 a.m. this morning, it was light enough outside to see without artificial light! Things they are a'changin'!

Erin - So true! No one up here in the heavy woods minds having a wet spring! (If somehow we could have just melting water and no mud, I'd be happier!)

Jane2 - Gotta laugh at how much farther ahead you are into the gardening season than we are! It's usually well into March before we start even the earliest of seeds!
