Although the highest we saw yesterday on our thermometer on the north side of the house in the shade was 37 degrees, we had a whole lotta melting going on. The sun was shining brightly all day and many inches of snow disappeared.
Here I am hanging out of hubby's second floor office window (again) looking at the yard area right in front of the house. Grass! I can see grass!
Look at those raised beds emerging from their long winter's sleep. They were still completely covered when we got up yesterday morning. This shot was taken at 3 p.m. in the afternoon.
That is actual water in the pond. Okay, so it's still solid ice right underneath, but it is water nonetheless.
Back down on ground level now, this is the roadway back to the wood sheds.
Going back to the wood working area, all surfaces that had been plowed are down to the gravel now. As you can see, we still have a few piled-up banks of snow that will be around for a while though.
This is the driveway as it enters our back yard. Shady spots are always so slow to melt.
Lastly, this is right off the front deck. I didn't edit the color on this picture at all. You can actually see green(ish) grass!
My faith in the coming spring has been reaffirmed. It may actually happen.
Wow, you must be jumping for joy! Just out of curiosity, how big is your pond?
ReplyDeleteI'm only seeing bare ground around the base of my pine trees. I'm hopeful you'll send some of that warmth over here!!
ReplyDeleteSpring------yea!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
I know how much you love your snow up there, but that has got to be a welcome sight for sure! Now if it can just keep on keepin'!
ReplyDeleteWhat a welcome sight I'm sure! Bare ground and green grasses, Yay!!
ReplyDeleteLeigh - Our pond is actually quite small . . . about 60' in diameter and 5' deep. Unfortunately, we had a muskrat family who took up temporary (ahem -- we had to "relocate" them) residence a couple of years ago and they apparently made a tunnel or two in the sides of the pond so that we're currently having trouble with it holding water now. It needs to be drained and the holes patched up. Arrrgh, just another thing to add to the To Do List!
ReplyDeleteSue - Wow, you really are hangin' on to your snow. No wonder you're going a little bonkers! I know you don't want to even look at it but you should take some pictures and post them so we all can have some comparison with our places.
APG - Yupper, all I have to do now is survive through the dreaded M-U-D period. Yuck.
Alla - I'm sure that green grass isn't new growth yet but just left over from last fall. It's remarkable how things can stay green under all that snow and cold. Some of my strawberry plants always look a pretty green when I uncover them, too.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any snow left on my property, but if there is, it is so little that I can't see it from the back yard. I have new little shoots of grass peeking through the pine needles - - ugh, raking season ... lots of clean up outside!

I know where your snow went. It is hitting all of us on in the mid atlantic. You can have it back, I dont mind:) Surely if you are getting to spring it has to be coming right. I am losing all hope!
ReplyDeleteHanging on by my fingernails. When the weather forecaster said "nor'easter with 12-14 inches of snow", I put my fingers in my ears - LALALALALA. Maybe I should head north!
ReplyDeleteYvette - There is always that massive clean-up needed once the snow does finally disappear. I don't mind it, but usually wait until things dry out a little first.
ReplyDeleteJane - I'm so sorry! I heard this morning that you are scheduled to get socked again! You must be losing hope that this winter will ever end. Whadda year!
Susan - I really do think we are done getting snow. (I don't know why I think I'm so smart.) Can hardly believe you are forecast to get another foot. Well, you can pretty well count on your ewes lambing right in the middle of it, no?
What a hassle not having computer access at home. At least you can communicate from work so we all know you ain't daid!!
Even out big snow banks are gone now. I look outside at the car and think somethings missing. LOL!
ReplyDeleteIs your pond a man made one? It must be wonderful to look out at your pond.
Snow sure does melt fast when it warms up. I hope your Mud season doesn't last long.
So happy you are seeing grass again,a welcome sight indeed! Blessings jane
ReplyDeleteSparkless - Yep, our pond is man-made. When we moved to this piece of property, the driveway came in right across where the pond is and through the area where our gardens are now. So when we had our good neighbor (heavy equipment business) put in the new rerouted driveway, we had him dig the pond also.
ReplyDeleteJane2 - We had even more melting today even though not as much sunshine. The snow has been going steadily but slowly so we haven't had any flooding problems. Just the way you want it!
Oh my gosh, look at that turf! Congrats to you, I know that is just the lift your spirits need this time of year. Pretty soon you will feel so behind just like I do LOL! I want summer but I'm not ready, I guess this happens every year, doesn't it?!
ReplyDeleteOh it's heavenly!! We were like that until last night...brown dead grass could be seen almost everywhere. Today we are getting another foot of snow....April Fools on us from Mother Nature lol. I so want to get the garden in soon!!
ReplyDeleteErin - I really do think we are done with snow for this winter. No sunshine today so our 30-some degree temps feel colder than they have for the past several days. But I'm seeing more and more of my raised beds every day now. Still way behind last year, but at least it won't be a "too dry" spring!
ReplyDeleteStephanie - With all the snow you've had in your part of the country, this last (?) storm . . . is it really necessary? At least it won't stay on the ground long.
