Oi Vey. What a couple of busy, crazy days! At least yesterday and today have been full of sunshine . . . even though the temps have stayed cool. Only in the 20s yesterday and today. But with the glorious sunshine our solar panels are cooking on all four burners and our storage batteries are being fed their fill.
As a prerequisite of our summer of remodeling, we've been working on our electrical circuitry (well, not OURS but our house's) and I haven't had use of my computer much today. Because of everything going on, I am completely off schedule having no sense of any routine today at all.
I did manage to get some Poppy Seed Bread made and baked but other than that no usual, daily homemake-y things have been accomplished. (Half the bread will go home with our daughter tonight and the other half has left the building already.)
Had to post a picture of our granddog, Tucker, as it's his fifth birthday today. Happy Birthday, Little Pooper (as he is affectionately called by Chicken Mama). He was not very cooperative in wanting his picture taken because I called him away from his post intently watching a deer walk along the outside of the fence.
Our manual roller/flaker arrived yesterday. On the website of the company we ordered it from, they talked about the best made, highest quality one (the Marga made in Italy) and the fact that there were copies being made and sold as "just as good." They even gave the names of a couple of the knock-offs.
Um-uh, wait just a darn minute here. The manual hand-cranked roller/flaker we received yesterday was NOT the Marga we ordered, but one of the "other" brands. Needless to say, we are trying to get this situation straightened out. I just hope the company is a reputable one and we didn't get taken. Stay tuned and I'll let you know what's up on this.
Okay, time for me to get back to whatever it is I'm doing that makes me feel I'm not accomplishing much. Just one of those days . . . what time does it have to be before it's okay to have a glass of wine?
First off, regarding your wine. It's 5 o'clock somewhere, so go ahead and pour a glass.
ReplyDeleteI've been slightly off kilter on getting much done myself. No motivation, the vacuum is sitting in the middle of the room trying to make me feel guilty and I need to bake some bread for sandwiches this weekend. Oh well, it'll be there tomorrow.
So, since I don't drink wine, I'll grab a can of my other addiction, diet soda, and sit and join you!
Well hey, it is precisely 4:20 here (I know what that sounds like to the hippie crowd, but it really is the time now) so start pouring!
ReplyDeleteI really hope you get that straightened out with your flaker and they company does right by you. These things aren't cheap, and when you are talking tools for preparedness (i.e. manual stuff) you save for the best you can afford so it will LAST. After all, that's why we get so excited over old finds, because they were made to stand the test of time, no fancy power needed! I can't wait to see your review for the manual model as we have slowly been forming "the list" of things we would like to have someday, or to keep our eyes open for.
Happy Birthday, Tucker!
Coming from naval parentage, cocktails are served when the sun is over the yardarm. And I figure that it's over the yardarm somewhere at any point during the day! Have one for me, plz. (Your security word verification is "mentle" -- isn't that the truth!)
ReplyDeleteRuth - I would LOVE to sit down and drink and chat and visit with you!
ReplyDeleteErin - We went over the info we had from the company we got the manual roller/flaker from and saw how their wording was indeed a little open to (ahem) interpretation. Papa Pea talked to them (it makes me get all bristly but a male voice gets a lot farther in some situations than a female one) and although they initially said they make it a policy to never accept returns or issue refunds, they finally agreed to take this unit back and issue a credit to us. (But they refused to give us credit for shipping and handling.) AFTER we see the refund come through, I may have a few words to share about the situation on the blog.
Susan - Since I'm feeling so "mentle" this afternoon, I say, "Bottoms up!" ;o)
It's never too early for wine in my book - if it were, God wouldn't have made mimosas! LOL
ReplyDeleteWhy do you need a manual press when you have your nifty electric press? Pros and cons, please.
Oh yum poppy seed bread! I'm totally off because our modem died and it's taken three days to get the new one and get back online. So today I'm playing on the computer way too much to try to catch up on all I missed.
ReplyDeleteI have some organic apple juice, can't drink wine it makes my face flush a bright red, not pretty. I'll join you drinking your wine with my glass of apple juice.
Jen - Just simply working toward self-sufficiency. Planning for the worse case scenario, hoping for the best. Should we ever have a power outage for any length of time, say in the gray, sunless, mid-winter and we have to ration our solar power, having a manual roller/flaker would enable us to go on with our "normal" diet.
ReplyDeleteSparkless - Wine, diet soda, apple juice. Who cares? The important thing is that we're drinking together! (Glad you're back in business with your new modem.)
Susan, LOL - I wonder if that's the lesson my kids are getting from their Naval parents as well, heheehee
ReplyDeleteHanging on the edge of my seat to hear about the manual roller. And happy b-day to the pooper. We somehow work poop into the nicknames of our dogs as well. Why do we do that? I don't think it would go over well to call the husband 'big pooper', well maybe it would ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, I never heard of no drinkin' rules! Make your own! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd to heck with it...eat the whole loaf while you are at it and then bake some more for Chicken Mama!
Happy BDay to the Pooper!!!!
Jane - I think you have to be careful what nicknames you give your animals as they tend to live up to them! The same might go for husbands. ;o)
ReplyDeleteAPG - Papa Pea was a tad chagrined to realize that I gave away ALL the Poppy Seed Bread today. To keep my happy home, I may have to bake some more tomorrow.
