When hubby's niece and her husband were here for a visit a few weeks ago, they gave us this gorgeous mum plant.
At that time it had a gazillion tightly closed buds on it, so we couldn't tell what color the blossoms would be. Turns out it's this deep, dark red and could hardly be more beautiful.
The plant is huge measuring about three feet across the top.
I had Zoey the Wonder Dog pose by the mum to give you an idea of how big it is. She looks thrilled, doesn't she?
What a fantastically colorful time of year autumn is. I'd take it any day over muddy, damp, unpredictable spring. Yay for fall!!
That is a beautiful mum! I love fall!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I planted a big one 2 years ago and it is just about bursting at the seams...any day now I should have a pretty one too!
ReplyDeleteZoey the wonder dog is sooo cute.
ReplyDeleteErin - Thanks, I'm enjoying it so much. I just wish "fall" would last about four months!
ReplyDeleteApple Pie Gal - Be sure to post a picture of yours. What color is it?
jane - Zoey says thank you for the compliment! She's a Pudel Pointer, 13-1/2 years old and is just starting to show her age these past few months. But we're hoping a winter of lots of snoozing by the wood stove will be good for her. (I think I'll join her; it might be good for me, too!)
Wellll...I don't remember what color it is :) But as soon as it shows itself...I will get a pic!
ReplyDeleteAnd I will check out your quilting blog ;) All is forgiven!
Those mums are beautiful!! This would be a wonderful buffet for the deer. My yard is only enclosed by a 4-5' high fence.
ReplyDeleteMama Pea, I've just finished your archives from the beginning so I feel like we've been neighbors for a long time even if I do live in Oregon. Love all the info and tips you send out. Have also started on your quilt blog from the beginning. I will definitely be following both your blogs from now on.

So many flowers! What a nice gift. I do think that fall is the best season - although I tend to feel that way about spring, round about March 1. Zoey is too adorable for words. LOVE the hairdo - she looks like a doll.
ReplyDeleteYvette - Welcome and thanks so much for commenting. Gosh, your kind words make me feel honored! Hubby and I have often said we'd like to have explored your state of Oregon.
ReplyDeleteSusan - Zoey always looks like she's having a bad hair day. How does she keep the hair out of her eyes? She actually has inch long eyelashes! Isn't that weird??
Well Mama Pea, if you ever get the urge to come my way, be sure to bring a motor home and I will let you plug in here at my house for a while. I'm only 60 or miles from Crater Lake... and very few miles from being in the pine woods.

Yvette - Thanks so much for your kind offer of hospitality.
ReplyDeleteHindsight is always so good. Now we both wish that we had spent more time traveling before getting into this homesteading life we've chosen. For the foreseeable future, we're pretty much tied to home.
But that's the neat thing about blogging. You can become good friends with other bloggers and experience a sense of their part of the country. Blog on, I say!
