Tired of My Snow Pictures?

How do you think I feel? Yessireebob, we woke up to about 5" of wet snow this morning. It's like our outside world is showing pictures on an old-fashioned, faulty slide projector that keeps clicking backwards to the same old snow scene taken in November, December, January, February, March . . . and now April.

So for those of you lucky-ducks actually being able to work your garden soil and plant early seeds today, here's a look at my snow-covered world.

The geese emerging to their once again snow-laden yard. (The chickens won't even come out.) Bet they're gonna be wondering where those nice, new green shoots of grass they've been munching for the last couple of days have disappeared to.

This is the closest we have to a flowing creek on our property. It's actually the ditch on the side of our driveway but it flows for much of the year. I thought it looked especially pretty this morning. Too bad you can't hear the sounds of the water burbling along.

My poor, poor ninebark hedge . . . laid over . . . yet again.

Our wood cutting area where we're working on our pile of maple logs. Wood's not gonna do any drying today. Uh-uh. Nope. No way.

Notice the squiggles on the middle left of the pond surface? They were made earlier this morning by a variety of duck known as Icebreaker Ducks (mallards). Roy was watching them from his office upstairs and said it was quite comical. They'd walk a couple of steps on the skim ice, break through, swim a foot or so, then back up on the ice to waddle along, break through, etc.

This last shot is for you, MaineCelt. You said you're planting carrots today? Yeah, me too. (Ha!) These are my two designated carrot beds for this year. Somehow, I think you're gonna have more luck than I will.

Oh, DEAR. I'm so sorry about your carrot-foiling April snow! We got plenty of snow in April LAST year, and I've frankly been rather surprised that we escaped most of the late, heavy Spring snows this time around. If it makes you feel any better, I could post a picture of the poultry yard fence frame, which was totally destroyed by one of our snows back in March...

Want me to plant an extra row of carrots for you? Only one condition: you have to come here to harvest them!

MaineCelt - Awww, don't waste too much sympathy on me. This postponement of gardening weather just gives me more time to do things I wanna do inside before I start living outside! (But could you please guarantee us a long fall season so the crops I'll get in late will have a chance to mature?)

Don't you go tempting me with that row of carrots. I've always wanted to visit Maine.

I wish we could just split our temperatures between us. Today we had 99 which set a record. (And who says there is no global warming.) I don't know how to dress in the morning - sweat shirt, long jeans, and jacket or tee shirt and shorts!!

Hey, Fudd - I KNOW! Isn't it crazy? How can our temperatures be so widely divergent? You'd think we lived thousands of miles apart. Oh, wait. We do live thousands of miles apart. (Tee-hee.)

Good grief! I heard on MPR this morning that the Arrowhead region was in a winter storm warning. I think Mother Nature is carrying the April Fools thing a little too far!

Hi, Ruthie - Well, supposedly the winter storm warning for us was cancelled at 9 p.m. tonight. We haven't gotten any more snow but it did drizzle all day. But . . . now the wind has picked up and it is HOWLING out there. It must be blowing in clear, warm weather, huh? Yeah, that's right, that's what it's doing. Clear, warm weather. (Oh, we can only hope!!)
