Mother Nature has given us such gorgeous scenery so far this winter season.
Our temperatures have (strangely) remained mild, and the snows have come when the thermometer registers just below freezing. This, of course, means the snowflakes contain a lot of moisture which makes them stick to every tree branch and twig.
It also means we're using very little wood to keep home and hearth warm and cozy. Papa Pea has banked snow up against the outside perimeter of the house, and we joke we could probably meet our heating needs if we just burned candles during the day in addition to the evening hours.

Lovely Mama Pea! We are whited out here today, but no where near enough to do any banking of the house...yet. I live in hope!! Apparently you never grew out of loving snow. Such a sweetheart!
Rosalea - I have, indeed, always loved snow. I can remember years of growing up sledding and ice skating until I was darned near frozen solid. Two of my mom's younger sisters, my wonderful aunts, bought me a pair of double-bladed ice skates when I was not much older than I was in the posted picture. They took me to the city park where there was a flooded ice rink and around and around we went with me holding on, an aunt on either side.
What wonderful memories! You remind me of the neighbour on the outskirts of the town where we lived, who had a pond. Many, many hours were spent on it skating; weekends and after school til dark. We'd walk home frozen, as we swept/shoveled and flooded it before we left, and we always got some of the water on us, where it froze, stiffening our mitts, pants etc. Somehow the frozen digits weren't so noticeable then as they would be now!!!!!
Rosalea - Isn't that the truth? Kids must have more blood cursing through their veins than we adults do. On the first piece of property we lived on here in northern Minnesota we had a large pond and have fond memories of the many big skating parties we had during the winter. Of course, we had to shovel it off (oof!) every time it snowed so the ice would be good for skating.
Weren't those the days when we could spend hours playing in the snow ~ snow angles, making snowmen, snow forts, sledding, snowball fights and more. Cherry red cheeks and soaking wet mittens. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Shepherdess55 - I don't think we ever came in without mittens that weren't totally soaked. Don't know about you, but we never had the "water shedding" mittens or gloves that were available in years to come. Most hand coverings were those purchased and made of yarn or knitted by relatives. I just remembered (talk about memories being jogged) I even had a fur (fake fur) muff but that was only for dress-up occasions.
Glad you are getting snow, but how strange the mild temperatures!
I have to admit that beautiful snow like that is one of the things I miss about living up north. I really do enjoy your snow pics and posts, Mama Pea.
Michelle and Leigh - Yes, these mild temps are very strange. We have a big storm in the forecast for Tuesday night all the way to sometime Thursday of this week. Supposedly between 12-18" with temps just below freezing again AND high winds. It will be interesting to see what high winds and thick, wet snow bring about! Thanks, Leigh, for saying you enjoy my snow pics. I sometimes hesitate to post them because I imagine people saying, "Yeah, that's snow. So what?" :o)

What a cute picture of you at the end. We don't have any snow yet...so weird for us this time of year. It was a long, mild fall but I have a feeling we are going to get hard when it does hit. I am NOT a snow person so I am glad we don't have any yet.

NanaDiana - I wonder if you're going to get some of this storm that's coming across the country. Now they're saying 20-21" possible for us starting tomorrow night and going to the evening on Thursday. When you get your first good snowfall, I wanna see a picture of you making a snow angel! ;o)
Just ice and rain here so far. Power is going off and on. I hate ice, would much rather have heaps of snow!
tpals - Yup, the storm is scheduled to reach us late tonight and I'm sure hoping it's not rain and ice but rather all snow. But even as heavy a snow as they're predicting may break tree trances and knock out grid power. Stay safe and don't go out on the road unless you absolutely have to!
