No Brown Christmas This Year!

We are having a real winter this year.  Last night we got somewhere around 6" of new snow and currently (still before dawn) there's a healthy wind outside blowing enough snow around that it looks more blizzard-like than it really is.

I'm in fairly good shape for the fast approaching Christmas Day.  The presents are wrapped, some ready for delivery and those under the tree tagged with "To" and "From."  Even though I started having Christmas carols playing from dawn to dusk most days (well before dawn and well beyond dusk on these short days) way back in November, I'm already knowing I'll miss them after New Year's Day passes.  How 'bout if I manage to wean myself off of them by listening to audio books while spending time in my quilt room?

Papa Pea is planning on a romp in the woods this afternoon with a good friend, and I'll be happy to let them snowshoe a path through all this new snow so it will be easy-peasy once I venture out on them.  I'm no dummy.

My fantasy is having time slow down once the first of January arrives.  Oh, I know there are always those everyday tasks that must be done every single day to keep our little homestead chugging along smoothly, but other than those necessities, I ain't doin' nuttin' but kicking back and enjoying the few couple months of remaining winter hibernation time which will hopefully include getting out on snowshoes or skis to take in the beautiful wilderness we live in while getting healthy fresh air and exercise.  Or at least I'm determined to make it all possible.  It will be a good thing.

Until our next communication, hang your stockings by the chimney with care (I wouldn't mind having a really good orange or two in mine), and may your next week or so sparkle with family, friends and joy.

My fall root cellar project interfered with my wood cutting, so I'm a bit behind getting my shop stash completed. I'll keep on that through Christmas week, weather permitting. Beyond that, I'm with you. I'm not traveling ANYWHERE this winter, and I have lots of shop projects to work on. The popcorn jar is full, and I have books to read and things to keep me interested. Annie Oakley and O.J. even seem to be getting the idea that winter is for resting up. Oh, and the seed catalogs are starting to arrive. Decisions, decisions, decisions! Cheers and Merry Christmas to you, too.

Mama Pea, That sounds like a grand plan. Hope you can stick to it. The snow looks beautiful, & cold. Here in FL/GA, we will be having temps in the 20s for a low & only a high of 40+ for both Christmas Eve & Day. I am glad it will FEEL like Christmas this year (not the 80s or 90s that we sometimes get). I wish you & Papa Pea the best for the holidays. Merry Christmas!

Tim - Oh, yes! Lots of nights (maybe even afternoons?) on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and those old movies I always say I'm going to watch. Your shop time, my quilt time. I've gotten two or three (or is it four?) seed catalogs already. Used to be I was amazed when they arrived in January. Lots of audio books and real hold-in-hand books to read, too. I can hardly wait! ;o)

DFW - We do have cold temps today . . . 9° and it's supposed to go that much below zero tonight. I'm surprised to hear you actually get freezing temps in FL/GA. But I'll bet they don't last long like they do here in the north land. Sending wonderful holiday wishes to you and yours!

After such a warm, sunny start to November, we are finally in typical winter now - A few inches of fresh snow and steady cold like we like it. We are expecting an arctic blast this weekend, but weather reports are differing by more than 10 degrees so its hard to say what we'll get. It will be cold either way. And we will be hunkered down with lots of food. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Ours will be a brown Christmas, if the cold snap could have held off for a couple of weeks the kids would have been so happy! It's been nice stoking the fires and cuddling up each night though.

So nice to see YOUR wintery scenes – so festive – and not have them here! May you and yours have a Christmas filled with love, warmth, and safety!

SmartAlex - Lots of food! We're all so fortunate, aren't we? So much of your food is undoubtedly from your fine gardening efforts. They really pay off in the winter. Especially with prices rising so drastically in the stores. Cuddle with your hubby and enjoy this holiday season to the hilt! :o)

Kev - Aw, no snow for the kids? Having enough of the white stuff to play in really sparks the little ones' imaginations. I'm sure you'll find all kinds of interesting things for them to do over the holidays. Not that you don't do that year 'round. Blessings to your lovely family and Merry Christmas!

Michelle - Yep, you can sit back and enjoy my pictures of the snow without having to deal with it. The same wishes back to you and your men and all the animals, Michelle!

Buckle down for the cold wave coming through this week. We're 'warming' up tomorrow so it can snow some more then it will be back into the deep freeze. Everyone stay safe and warm.

tpals - Yep, that's just the forecast we're in for. Tonight should be our coldest so far. Down a few degrees below zero. And then more snow. We're definitely getting our share of snow so far this winter. :o)

Sounds so festive and cozy. Visualizing you bee-bopping around the kitchen to your music... Sure hope your January fantasy comes to fruition. Just make it happen!
We've been out on snowshoes...found muscles I'd forgotten about!!!! Its too deep to wade through for any distance, but more snow would be lovely, and apparently it is coming. The weather that is heading our way for the weekend is up-ending some travel plans for Christmas, but we'll see....
All the best to you and yours, Mama Pea. Have a wonderful Christmas season.

Rosalea - I don't know how much bee-bopping I can muster up, but I did get up ready to go this morning at 5 and so far have a double batch of haskap berry jam ('bout time!) on the stove and a batch of vanilla pudding and a batch of chocolate pudding made and in the fridge. These dark mornings are hard on those who have to get out and go to away from home jobs, but not being in that category, I love these morning hours when I feel I can get a jump-start on the day. (Nap at 3 p.m.? Ha, I wish!) Happy, happy holidays to you, Rosalea!!
