Jumping Back In . . . Slowly

Hello to you all!  I'm back, at least on a limited basis.  Can't promise anything more at this time.  Here's the short story (not that I can ever write a short post) of our crazy and challenging last several weeks.

I wrote my "time out" blog post on June 10th.  Almost a week later, on June 16th, our daughter came down with . . . yep, Covid.  I started with symptoms two days later and Papa Pea two days after that.  Neither of them had a fun time, but seemed to recover rather quickly.  I got socked.

The first full week in July, I had inklings that I might be starting to feel somewhat better.  On Friday, July 8th, I really fouled things up by taking a bad fall.  Smashed the right side of my rib cage on a door jamb.  I was lucky as I didn't hit my head or break a bone.  Of course, we were concerned I might have cracked a rib (or six) but decided I didn't.  Now we're wondering if I actually did as although my mobility is better (yay!), I have a lot of trouble sleeping as I just can't lie in a horizontal position without discomfort.  (Have tried being tied upright in a corner, but that doesn't work either.)

The garden got only about two-thirds planted.  I be the head gardener, it's my thing and I love doing it, but since I've been a bit incapacitated (understatement), father and daughter team have been going above and beyond doing what needs to be done that I can't do.

Dear daughter has been doing all kinds of town running and other errands for us during the time I couldn't get up or down from a chair by myself (let alone get dressed or bend over enough to lift the toilet seat up . . . TMI?) while Papa Pea stayed close to me as constant caregiver.  Poor guy.

But enough of this tale of woe.  Healing is happening and soon it will all be only a memory.  Oh, to feel strong and healthy again!

I can now croggle out to the garden so I'll take some pictures soon to post.  Some things are doing really well, some are surviving and the bare spots will be filled with nutritious bounty next year.  All is well.  And it's good to be posting again.

So you took a time-out (6/10) because of a fall (6/8)and THEN got COVID? You ARE on the no-fun plan, aren't you! Glad you're mending and have a crack assistant team.

So good to see you back...what an ordeal! Sending healing vibes your way!

Michelle - Thanks for calling me out on saying I fell on June 8th, rather than what I meant was JULY 8th! (Maybe I did hit my head.) Kinda goes with the way both hubby and I have been lately. Dear daughter has probably been checking out assisted living options given our inability to think and talk straight lately! ;o)

Rosalea - I'll gladly take all those appreciated healing vibes! Hugs.

Oh you poor dear! Damaged ribs, in whatever form, are no fun at all and do take time to feel better! ( have personal experience more than once!). Do take care and leave the tough stuff to others! - Jenn

I don't think you two are ready for retirement homes. But it made me think that all of US need to slow down in our endeavours ... hard to do I know but sometimes we have to do what our bodies don't tell us anymore. Get well & take it slow.

Jenn - I don't know if it's necessarily an "age thing," but I'm more than willing anymore to leave the "tough stuff" to anyone else I can get to do it! ;o)

JJ - You have warmed the cockles of my heart with your sweet words. Thank you.

DFW - Ha, at this point (ouch) I'm ready to slow down my endeavors to real slow!

Mama Pea, Wow! That's a bad string of events for you all! 'Seems like something eventually knocks us down, no matter how healthy our lifestyles are. Have you ever noticed that troubles do seem to happen in clusters?--as if the universe wants to get our troubles over within a shorter time span, once and for all!! And, for what it is worth, I've been hearing that the year 2022 has been particularly awful for lots of folks. We've had one helluva year too with 2 car accidents within 24 hours, illnesses (not covid, thankfully), surgeries and a host of other, unusual irritants which are almost too numerous to recount. It truly has been crazy! 'Seems like something is in the air and it's not just a virus! Do know that we feel for you all, wish you all peace and we will keep you in our choicest prayers for a complete recovery. And remember, (as we try to remind ourselves) "This too shall pass". Love, M

Anonymous M - Oh, no! You and your hubby have been through some kind of a weird period, for sure. So sorry to hear of it all. I do know my ribs will heal. I just have to be patient enough. (Fat chance with the patience, huh?) We've been dealing with other things, too, that we've chosen to keep under wraps, as they say. What IS going on?? Sustaining hugs to you and J. Hope things smooth out for you.

The covid seems to be knocking down my friends all over the world who had managed to avoid it up til now. I hope you are back in your best health as soon as possible. I'm sure your daughter worries.

Stay hydrated if you're also dealing with the heatwave this week!

tpals - Thinking we were all super-healthy and didn't have to worry about any of these virus or variants knocked all three of us for a loop. Yep, our daughter has been very concerned about us but no more so than we were when she first got sick. Her bout was short-lived but actually scary because of her fever, awful pains and tossing her cookies. Not that she had any cookies at the time! All is turning out good, though, and hopefully we have some immunity built up now. I hope. :o)

Wow, hopefully you are on the mend. Covid is no joke. And to top off a fall? Glad to see a post no less. Praying all goes much better now.

Kristina - Happy to say that I seem to be healing from the rib injury faster than normal. I'm working with a homeopathic doctor and I believe his remedies are making the difference! We're looking forward to the rest of the summer being great.

Ouch! I’m. Sorry you have had such trials and tribulations. It’s amazing how much a broken or cracked bone can hurt or hamper you. At separate times, I have broken a toe and cracked my elbow. Just lifting my arms to wash my hair was a painful chore so I do understand how much your ribs hurt. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for a crack. Not sure about if the ribs are broken.

Our garden is extremely slow this year. My guy said our tomatoes seem to be a month behind. At this rate, I definitely need to go to the farmers market to get tomato seconds for canning. My canned tomatoes are running very low and I can’t believe I’m still buying tomatoes for general use. I did just score 10 pounds of peaches at $0.67/pound! They are sitting spread out on the dining room table since they are rocks at the moment. Hopefully they don’t go from rocks to rotten. I was also able to can a double batch of cherry bbq sauce. So yummy on pork! 😋

Take care and take each day one step at a time.

I am sorry to hear about your fall. Rest up and know that next summer the garden will still be waiting along with weds, always weeds! Im glad PapaPea and your daughter are there to assist the head gardener.

Katie C. - Thanks so much for your kind words. Curious to hear your garden is behind schedule this year. I guess we all hope for a long fall so that our crops can make it to maturity. And if they don't, well, we tried. Can't do more than that. Just came in from a slow walk through the garden and am surprised to see the edible podded peas nearly ready for picking. I did get those planted before my enforced "step away from the garden and take care of yourself" period began. So good to see something ready to eat . . . besides salad greens!

Lisa B - Yep, I'm a lucky ducky to have those two able to step in for me. (I'd still rather be out there!) Had my best night's sleep last night since hurting my ribs . . . got 6-1/2 hours but must admit I'm stiffer and more sore today than I have been in the last couple of days. I'm calling it all part of healing!

I do wish we were closer (or got the transporter working). I'm about to be buried in cucumbers and would be happy to share.

tpals - Oh, I do love slicing cukes and can hardly wait for them to be ready. Of a hot afternoon, I take one out of the refridge, grab the salt shaker and sit down to munch the whole thing! Wait until I show you a picture on my blog of the state of my cukes right now. You'll laugh!

You poor thing! There are few times of year when it is OK to be down and out, and June/July ain't one of 'em. Glad you're on the mend.

Oh my! Glad all of you are feeling better. Just take it slow and don't overdo.

Glad you're back! My new favorite saying seems appropriate here: "Sometimes you're the windshield; sometimes you're the bug."

Hang in there!

Glad you are on the mend finally. My husband and I are one of the few who still haven’t gotten Covid, but it is only a matter of time. This darn virus will be with us now and into the future forever, like the flu, so everyone will eventually get it. But we continue to wear our masks and do everything they say to do, but still - it can get you! We just keep trying to keep ourselves out of its bullseye.
