Yep, I know I've not put up a new post in a week, but haven't felt I had anything to share.
I may be in a bit of an in between seasons funk. Good sleep at night has been eluding me no matter what I try. Neither outdoor exercise nor a capsule or two of melatonin does the trick. And yet if I sit to knit or read during the day . . . you guessed it. I fall asleep in a matter of minutes only to jerk awake wondering where am I, what day is it, what time is it, who am I? I think if I let myself, I could be like the newborn babe with days and nights mixed up.
So I've been taking it really easy this weekend, avoiding most tasks on The List I could be accomplishing.
We have a fly problem equal to that of Jenn who writes the blog,
Coffee on the Porch with Me. The flies are those big ol' black ones that come out of the cracks and crevices and seem to immediately land belly-up (deader than a door nail, which is probably not a bad thing) all over the house. Like Jenn, I have to spend too much time each day either sweeping or using the vac to suck them up and away. Mine are especially bad in Papa Pea's upstairs unfinished office. I think a few of them must crawl behind the insulation each fall and happily procreate all winter. In the spring, the hoards emerge and die. Kind of like the salmon after spawning. Darn good thing they're not the size of salmon because they conk out all over the house. On any and all surfaces.
Our daughter is doing a two-week+ house sitting gig for good friends of hers. She will be there over Easter Weekend and they have told her to treat their place as her own so she's preparing dinner there on Easter, and we're invited. Don't know what she's serving but it won't be ham. I've mentioned before she was raised vegetarian and has never developed a taste for most meat. She says the texture of ham is especially bothersome for her so she avoids eating it. I really don't care if we have egg salad sandwiches (all those colored Easter eggs, you know) 'cause as long as I don't have to prepare the meal myself, it will be a treat.
Our snow continues to melt. Although we haven't had a drop of rain nor seen a snow flake in weeks, tomorrow is supposed to be one of those lovely (not) mixes of snow/rain/sleet/ice just to remind us that Old Man Winter has not yet "left the building."
Posts containing pictures are always so much more interesting. Maybe that's why I haven't felt like doing much posting lately. Our bleak white/gray/black scenery out-of-doors hasn't been enticing in the least. As far as inside activity, I've been making some little items that will go in Easter baskets but, of course, I can't show them before the Easter Bunny delivers them!

Interesting, how our "blogging muse" comes and goes. She sometimes flits to our shoulder, with all sorts of ideas. Then, all of a sudden, she flies off with not a word of bye-bye. ,-)
Often, when my muse has flown, I post that she has. And.... Back she comes!!!!! Perhaps she just needs to know, I miss her. :-)
Then again, I think we bloggers 'think' our blogs have to be somehow super-duper. Lots of pics... Lots of stuff-we-have-done, etc.
But do they? Really?
If we see a neighbor, over the back fence, do either of us try to quickly think of something "mahhhhhvelous" to share? Nahhhhh, we just go over to the fence and chat a bit.
"Chatting over the back fence", is how I see blogging. No real pressure. Just something I feel like chatting about.
How does that sound? :-) Less pressure?
Hi Mama Pea :) Everything you write interests me :) We've had quite a sunny week here, but I just saw the forecast and I hissed at the computer...about 50cm of snow this week on its way...boooo! Old Man Winter is a stubborn one that's for sure. I hope you have a fun time with your daughter at Easter! We're not doing anything special. I bought some chocolates, but with the new frugal budget, all the big fancy dinners are out for the next year, which kind of makes me sad, but I'm keeping my eye on the goal! :)
Hey there, fellow fly sucker! Thanks for the mention. My husband has trouble with sleep as well. He can fall asleep, but then wakes many times throughout the night. The more you talk about it with other people, the more you find that a lot of folks have trouble sleeping. I feel for you. It's no fun functioning while you are dead tired. -Jenn
wisps of words - You are such a joy and breath of fresh air! You've given me the impetus to put up posts blathering on about nothing! ;o) (You may come to regret your kind words, you know.)
Rain - The sooner you and Alex can manage to make to the move to your forever piece of property, the better, my friend. And a little bit of sacrifice (of course, you still must eat healthily!!) will make attaining your goal all the sooner sweeter. I'm sure you both must be eager and excited about seeing your goal coming closer. I know *I'm* excited for you!
Jenn - We be charter members of the FFSS. (The Fellow Fly Sucker Society! Geesh, that doesn't even sound good, does it?!)
Yep, your husband and I are in the same (sleepless) boat. I never have trouble falling asleep; it's staying that way that gives me the trouble. Last Friday we made a supply run to the big city. Thursday night I was in bed and asleep before 9:30. Woke at 2:30 and could NOT fall back asleep the rest of the night. Next day, picture me trying to shop (after a 2-1/2 hr. drive to get there) with a long list in my hand, walking into display shelves and tripping on other people's carts. ARRRGH!
Sounds disgusting I wanna join. Gotta make dinner will finish reading your post and be back later.
Dinner over, kitchen clean, goats tucked in for the night.
We don't have a fly variety that dies. We have good old fashion livestock biting flies. They aren't picky they bite people too and those suckers hurt.
I spent some time in Massachusetts in February of 2005. There was snow on the ground at the time but my friend I was visiting said I was darn lucky not to be there during black mud season and the flies. So it must be a symbiotic relationship.
I have of late had the same syndrome.
I attributed it to liquid intake tea or warm milk and the resulting factor. Multiple trips some nights. Usually head hits pillow and out like the proverbial rock. Not the last week or so.
I also found that I reacted more intensely to the time change this year. I am not a fan of DST.Especially now that it last almost nine out of 12 months. But I will not board the soapbox train here.
However it took me over two weeks to stop feeling like I had an everlasting case of jet lag. Wondering if the two are going hand in hand. Don't dink with Mother Nature not nice!
I haven't even thought about an Easter meal yet. In fact, I haven't been watching the calendar either. Oops. I have been in a winter funk too, and the weekend weather here was pretty brisk.
I’m blaming the time change this year. I don’t seem to have successfully sprung forward.
I agree with wisps of words. Chatting over the back fence keeps me chugging along. I’m also still working on knitting a sweater to completion. Maybe it will be done by next winter?
We are in springwinter. This is the time of year everyone dislikes. Me included. March can be such a cruel and fickle month. We have had decent temps but they are promising back down to the nasty double digits this coming week. Nights of -20 celcius. Bah. I never sleep through the night - my middle of the night insomnia is my constant companion. Add in the purchase of a house and the pending sale of the current one and I watch the hours drag by.
Don't have a fly sucker problem here.... but do feel like I am 'in between' and 'behind my behind' (as a wise woman once said! :) ) on 'life' lately. Kind of tired of dealing with Summer one day, then Ole Man Winter the next.... figuring out the 'balance' of life with blogging and social media.... and simply completing all the project that are in my head!... which is a dream at best. So.... not to be complaining, yet sounding like I am complaining.... hugs to you Mama Pea!! :)
Goatldi - My biggest problem with the time change has been being aware of when to start fixing dinner at night. Guess I was more attuned to the light and brightness than I realized. I've been late with dinner every night so far. :o/
Kristina - I know Easter isn't even especially early this year . . . but I feel like it's come up really fast. Don't look now, m'dear, but we are just about at the end of another month. Eeeep!
Katie C. - "I don't seem to have successfully sprung forward." Yes! I'm using that for my excuse, too!
I can probably write post after post as if I were chatting over the back fence . . . but I'm always fearful the chatter will be dull, dull, dull.
Put that sweater away until this coming fall. You won't need it until next winter anyway.
Sign,
Queen of the Procrastinators
MrsDM - You never sleep through the night? Oh, we should hold a gab fest then. I wake up usually around 2:30 no matter when I go to sleep. It takes me about 2 hours to fall back asleep and then my bladder insists I get up about 2 hours after that. Grrrrr.
I hope when you're settled in your new place and your old house is SOLD, your sleep patterns will improve!
Lisa - Your wildly fluctuating weather would send me right over the edge! I wonder if there's something in the air that is affecting all of us. My daughter just stopped in and she says she's been having trouble sleeping, wakes and lies there thinking of all the things she didn't get done this winter, all the things to do this spring before full summer hits, all the things to do when summer does come . . . Papa Pea and I have been having the same discussion lately. Arrrgh. Sounds as though you, too, are experiencing it. Wish I had some good advice to give you, but you know I'm still trying to find our "balance" here. :o/
But, but ... I swore that I would knit at least one garment to completion so I have to (sigh) stick with it with small time outs for taxes (bleach), seed starting(a good thing), and figuring out my Easter menu (food always wins!).
Dag nab it! I did not write “bleach!” I wrote “bleah!” You know what I mean however you spell it ;-)
Katie C. - Ah, yes, these "smart" computers can be so helpful. Not.
Well, I'm gonna award you a big gold star for sticking with your knitting. (There's a gal in my handwork group who never, ever starts another project until she finishes the one she's working on. Sigh.)
