New Year's Day Hike

A gorgeous weather day to start this new year.  Temperature almost reaching 20°, vivid blue sky with puffy white clouds, no wind, pristine snow cover, complete silence in the woods.

We strapped on our snowshoes and went for a hike
to the top of our property.

This is the highest point, the northwest corner.

We saw hundreds of tracks in the new snow.
Fox, wolf, rabbit and deer.

A perfect outing.

You've reminded me that we used to do a New Year's hike as well, but that was a long time ago. It's a very nice tradition!

That is the kind of day that those of us living in the north DREAM of. What a great way to christen the New Year.
We had sun as well--took a long hike. Though I wish it had been on skis, it was wonderful just being out there. Happy 2017!!

What a lovely hike, and there's me staying tucked up indoors because all we had had was a severely hard frost and freezing fog, but I think I might have ventured forth if we had had the snow that you had. I also think I would have enjoyed playing on those snow shoes!

It was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying Mother Nature's beauty, for sure. Betsy had to have her adventure ~ so, we went to Red Rock to start the year off right! :) Lots of rabbit tracks there now ~ so, happy dog!

Leigh - It's not something we do regularly on New Year's Day, but it was a day we couldn't pass up yesterday!

Lisa - It was!

Sue - I know how you and Don love to ski . . . hang in there and you should have adequate snow soon!

Vera - Ugh, hard frost and freezing fog . . . not nice weather to be out in. Especially since you're not fully recovered yet! Take care, there will be plenty of lovely days coming up!

Susan - Believe it or not, I also got some knitting and quilting in. 'Twas a great day!

Sandy - With all the rabbit tracks we saw, I had my eyes peeled to see one zooming across the trail ahead of us, but no luck. How does Betsy react to wolf tracks?

I didn't do much of anything yesterday, it was overcast and drippy. This morning I woke up to find that we had maybe an inch of snow so I was really excited. The chickens and dogs weren't as happy about it as I was. It's pretty much melting now, so I'll sit inside and pout.

Mama Pea,

There is nothing that can beat taking a nice walk on your property in the snow. Happy New Year!!!

Sending hugs, and love.
Sandy

Ruth - I know snow in your area isn't as common as in ours so I'm saying it was okay for you to pout about it melting so quickly! We had enough yesterday (the 3rd) that we went out to clear twice! But, hey, that's what winter is about in northern Minnie-soda!

Beth - Yep, we're finally getting our winter snow and it is lovely out there!

Sandy - On our walk on New Year's Day we did comment on how very nice it was to have our own property on which to hike around. Didn't see another soul, no "people" noises, and it was so pristinely (is that a word?) white and unspoiled.
