Misc. Monday

Beautiful fall day coming on.  A high of 60° forecast with sun.  Overnight we had our lowest temp so far this fall . . . 43° . . . cool enough to start bringing cold air into the root cellar.

Our good neighbor's pepper plants, for some reason, didn't produce much this year while ours have been abundant so we've been sending bags full over to them.  Don't know how long ours will keep producing.  I'm not going to cover them with a cold frame because 1) the plants are taller than any cold frame we have, and 2) I have already processed as many as we need.   I'm thinking the plants will be slowing way down now because of lack of heat during the day and the cool, cool air at night.

I had all but one last load of laundry out on the line early this morning.  Gotta admit my fingers got a little nippy, but that comes with the territory this time of year.

Papa Pea and I are meeting in the back wood working area this morning at 10 to do some chain sawing, splitting and stacking of wood.  We started on that task this past Saturday and even though one thinks one is in good shape, muscles that apparently haven't been recently used were felt.

The time just hasn't been available for me to keep up with all the blogs you good people write, and I feel badly about that.  Catching up and having the time to comment is always my intention and may well happen . . . most likely after this last month of outside work comes to an end.

Here's hoping you all have a good, good week!

Peppers and chilies have done well here along with cucumbers and beans, I am now clearing plants as the night temps have dropped no point in keeping them going, again its a busy time of year :-)

Wow, those peppers are beautiful! I've been chopping and freezing because ALL mine came in at the same time. It ain't fair.

Dawn - Yep, STILL a busy time of year. Seems it doesn't end until the snow starts to pile up here. How 'bout you? Then when we think we're gonna have a slow winter . . . well, we manage to fill that slow time, too! But aren't we living the life we want? You betcha!

Susan - I chopped and froze way too many to use last year so I've tried to limit myself this year. Still have waaaaay more than I need or seem to be able to give away. Last year, "something" killed all my pepper plants one after the other. This year the garden gods are making up for it!

We had a bit of a nip in the air here in SW France last night, but the day time temperatures are still warm. We have lots of other things happening for us at the moment, so no veg work going on here!

Vera - You have lots going on at your place all the time! :o] Do you ever get snow in your winter?

Nary a pepper grew at our place this year as I couldn't keep up with the heat and drought conditions. Yours are gorgeous and love the small-town sharing between neighbors. Last year our garden over produced and we'd leave bags of produce on our neighbor's front stoop as a 'surprise' for them. Oh it was such fun!! And the laundry on the line with your autumnal tablescape to the side is the best picture!

Your peppers are beautiful. Mine have done well, but suffered from no rain. It's hard to believe you're so close to cold weather!

Lisa - We gardeners just never know from year to year what kind of a harvest we'll get from the various crops. Sometimes frustrating, but we have to roll with the punched. Next year, you'll no doubt have adequate rainfall and be back in business again.

Leigh - It's strange (and hard to figure out) but the last few years our first killing frost date has been much later than usual. Last year it was October 17th. This year? Who knows! Lack of rain makes gardening really difficult and I have lots of sympathy for you folks in the southern parts of the country who battled that this year.

Oh I know what you mean. Because my tomatoes continuously need processed, I haven't had time to start pulling out the dead plants out there, nor start pulling the tomatoes themselves.

I can relate...with the onset of cooler temeratures we no longer nap in the afternoon to avoid the heat...we work like mad to catch up. I am checking blogs now as I am waiting for a call from the power company about our pole in the yard.

Kristina - And you've had more than most of us to do because of your hubby's situation that has taken a lot of your time! All will quiet down this winter, right? Right?!

Mama Pea said...

Fiona - At least the power company has given you an excuse to sit for a while! Now, if they just don't keep you waiting for days . . . :o]

I haven't been keeping up on reading my blog friends, either. Lots of things going on and I just get lazy in blog land. There is some pretty fall colors hanging on your clothes line. Love it!

Laurie - Thank you! I didn't realize how "autumnal" our clothes looked until I saw the picture I took!
