A whole gaggle of geese. (And a rooster.)
Two male Cayugas on the left, two adult male Muscovies on the right.
Everybody gets a pan of food. The adolescent Muscovies are over to the left of the picture.
Of course, the bossy geese have to go to the Muscovies' food to see if it might be better.
Everybody scatters. Don't worry, there's always enough food for everyone.
"I sure wish someone would get me some fresh water."
This handsome fellow is Skidmore from our Oklahoma batch of geese.
And this little sweetie is Ado Annie. Papa Pea has them trained to his voice, and she's looking to see what he has to say.
Next I'll try to take some pictures of the waterfowl in the pond. They do seem to enjoy it these hot days and have lots of fun splashing around.

Oh, I just LOVE this post. I was smiling the whole way through. Thank you for sharing your wonderful feathered friends!
:)
My goodness....how they have grown!
They are much smarter than people think even if they do 'think' about obeying! Lovely waterfowl!
Sue - You're welcome! :o)
Laurie - Just like human babies, they don't stay small for long!
Thanks, Fiona. The ducks aren't nearly as friendly as the geese who seem very much interested in socializing with us humans. Or maybe it's just the food they associate with us!
Yours look like they all get along. I am starting to re-think the Anconas...It's so nice to see such lovely birds cavorting on your nice, green grass!
Susan - The geese definitely think they're the bosses . . . but other than a token outstretched neck and couple of steps toward one of the other birds, everyone does get along pretty well. We are really enjoying seeing our poultry pasture filled with life this summer. (We just won't talk about Freezer Camp yet, okay?)
Mama Pea,
Great pictures of your 2 legged critters. I love the geese, especially the one from OK.....I'm a tad biased what can I say :P
It's great your geese listen to what your husband has to say.
That's great they listen you Papa Pea. How neat. What a fun post.
Oh, they are so wonderful! It's neat to see photos that show the number of birds all together. Congrats on the gaggle and flock! They look so happy :)
Sandy - The geese seem to listen to him . . . they just don't always do what he says!! ;o)
Thanks, Kristina.
Rain - It would be nice (in some ways) to keep all of them because they are fun to watch. But we're interested in only good breeding pairs that will raise young for us every year. We'll probably keep more over this winter than when we have a little more experience with them. It will take a while to figure out good breeders, parents, etc.
Are any of them intended as "freezer" foul? If so, do you butcher them yourself? I'm too much of a wimp for that! I can't even keep a fish I catch.
Rain - Yes, we will have several (both geese and ducks and stewing hens) who will end up in the freezer this fall. We've done all of our butchering in the past. With this batch, our good friend and neighbor has volunteered to help with all the butchering and he is going to smoke some of the meat also. Butchering is never the most pleasant tasks, but once you've done it and are able to get your head in the right place for it, it's not bad.
