HOT! We've been experiencing temperatures very unusual for us. The thermometer in the shade has been hitting the high 80s which means it's got to be well into the 90s anywhere in the sun.
HOT! We had roof work planned for yesterday, but it didn't feel even safe to be on a sizzling roof in these temperatures.
HOT! I was out early yesterday morning harvesting the first of the shell peas. With these abnormally high temps, I'm crossing my fingers it won't be detrimental to the whole pea crop.
HOT! There was an early morning heavy dew on the strawberries so I waited as long as I could to pick them. (Supposedly handling the plants when wet can cause mold.) Processing the berries and peas in the (relatively) cool house wasn't too bad.
HOT! The garden, although growing by leaps and bounds, looks wilty. No amount of watering with the hose does much good right now.
HOT! My main freezer desperately needs to be defrosted and organized before I add more of this year's harvest to it. Why-oh-why wasn't I bright enough to get this done before this heat hit us?
HOT! I stripped the bed, washed sheets and the light summer blanket, got them out on the lines . . . and they dried in about 8-1/2 minutes!
HOT! My body doesn't sweat easily. In this weather I have been positively dripping. Both Papa Pea and I have been trying to work as much as we can outside, but reach a point about mid-afternoon when we have to say "uncle" and give it up except for the animal chores such as watering, again and again, that must be done.
HOT! Just too hot for us when we're used to a "hot spell" of maybe three or four days that might reach 80 degrees each summer!

We're experiencing the heat and humidity here too. It reminds me of a comment made by Father Mulcahy in the last episode of MASH. 'Look on the bright side: When they tell us to serve our time in Purgatory, we can say, "No thanks, I've done mine." '
Weather like this must addle my brain because I actually think a -10* January day isn't so bad after all.
Lol! She's passed out in the zucchini patch or squash or something that looks like it. HaHa!! Girl, I feel your hot pain. I'm trying to wrap up as much as I can before leaving tomorrow. I've pushed through the heat and humidity til noon and that's all I can do. Getting a nice little suntan, though. Your flowers look good! Maybe it will cool off a in a few days enough to give your veggies a break. Take frequent water breaks!
We have the same thing. When we moved here, it was always in the 70's. Now, it's day after day after day of 90's. We don't have AC, which isn't a problem IF it cools off at night--but even that hasn't been happening.
When I went to sleep last night (yea, sleep, ha) it was 83 degrees in the bedroom. Of course, that was 10 degrees cooler than OUTSIDE, but still, not good for sleep.
I'm out at first light to get stuff done, and usually throw in the towel by 9:30. You're one tough cookie if you can be out there until past noon. Ugh.
Stay cool. This too shall pass. I am counting down the days until Autumn!!!
Oh gosh, I LOVE the heat...I long for the days where it hits the high 30's (100F)...we've been in a heat wave here in Quebec as well, it's been 3 days and it looks like we'll have it for at least the next week. I try to take the dogs for their hour-long mountain hike pretty early, then I do my house chores and plan dinner...then I'm lucky enough to spend the afternoons in the shade on my porch swing with the dogs next to me. Our winters are too long, cold and depressing and if I could live on the porch all summer long, I would..sweat and all :) The only area of contention is that I heat up quickly, so I need the a/c going at night where my bf is shivering under fifty blankets...otherwise, summer HOT! is very welcome here!
We are getting behind in some things because it i just too hot. However the plants are thriving. We start our day at 4:30 am...work until 10:00 am then siesta until late afternoon. The poultry does the same! I think its the humidity that is slowing us down...the air is almost thick! Anyway hand in there. and keep hydrated and watch your salt intake, we need more when we sweat so much!
I'm happy to report we have had a lovely cool July so far. The temp has gotten high a couple of times but it's cooled down and has been cool at night so I'm having the best summer ever!
Fairview Farm - Oh, I think I'll have to write that quote from MASH down and remember to use it!
I know very well it's no fun to have frost bitten fingers, nose or toes, but seems to me it's easier to get warm in frigid weather than it is to cool off in hot and humid weather! :o)
Laurie - I made it until nearly 3 o'clock this afternoon -- it was a smidge bit less awful today -- came in, took a shower, put on cool clean clothes and haven't done much of anything since!
Have a wonderful trip to Colorado!
Sue - Our ground is really getting dry. I know we've had frequent rains this summer -- some of them heavy -- but this hot, hot weather just slurps up the moisture and leaves the soil like cement. Even under my mulch it's looking dry. Ugh.
83 in the bedroom at night? I could not tolerate that! Ugh.
Rain - Well, there's a strange on in every bunch, as they say, and I think you qualify my heat loving bloggy friend! Enjoy that time on the porch while you can. Use it to make plans for your garden (yippee!) when you move!
I just came back from the store, 8 PM and it is too hot to breathe outside. They are saying it should break this coming week, sure hope so. Keep cool Mama Pea and hope the garden does too.
Fiona - Yep, we all need to remember to take care of ourselves in this weather or we can actually get sick! The humidity is what makes the high temps really bad. Don't cha just hate it when your clothes stick to you? I had to quit and take a shower at 3 today. I was trying to handle the heat, but then the dratted mosquitoes started to bite and that was it for me!
Sparkless - So glad your weather has been pleasant. You'd better knock on wood though, 'cause there's still August to get through! ;o)
Myrna - We thought it was going to be cooler tomorrow, but wouldn't ya know . . . they changed the forecast . . . another scorcher to come. Maybe, just maybe, some rain after midnight tonight though so that would help the garden and us!
I washed rugs today and hung them out on the line, but they dried very little. Too humid!
Yes, I think we are going to get hit hard in August but it still won't be as bad as last year and it won't last as long so you won't hear me complaining....too much.
It was 100 here 2 days ago, 85 today, then around 100 rest of next week. Ugh!!! Grogeous flowers!!!
Thank you!
You know...That looks kinda nice passed out in the plants. Welcome to my world MP. I've kinda given up on everything except the flowers.
Hot here as well. Still have a few more days of it. We keep losing power. Went out Wednesday night. Back on yesterday. Out again last night. These storms are out to get us.
Oh, but it's so HARD not to complain when the temp and humidity make it so miserable . . . especially at night! ;o)
LHinB - When the temp hits 100 ya just have to throw in the towel and give up! ;o)
Tami - You know 'bout the only time I could survive in your area would be January. Any other time I would REALLY be passed out!
odiie - Well, if nothing else, this weather makes the corn grow. Although, if I had attempted corn again this year, it would have all blown down at least twice with the winds we've had! (Sometimes Mother Nature shows us who's boss, doesn't she?) Hope all of your crops are okay.
I kept procrastinating hanging out clothes on Sat and today, Sunday. It became night on Sat and today it rained enough to keep me from hanging out clothes. There will be tomorrow, even hotter if the forecast is to be believed.
PP - I'll be doing laundry tomorrow and, for the sake of our garden, I wish it would rain! But the forecast is for sunny and highs in the 80s so it should be a good drying day out on the lines. What's with all this hot, hot weather??
It is hard to put the basics on....you know the one piece of gear a woman needs:}...and yes sticking clothes is just about the worst...or when you wash your hair and it stays damp for two days???!
I think the worst is when you get out of the tub or shower and try to dry off . . . but the humidity is so high you CAN'T get dry. Ish! (Or trying to put on that one piece of gear a woman needs and it sticks in all the wrong places!)
Ha ha! That last photo made me chuckle. I hear ya'! I cry "uncle" here about 10-11am. Sweat just rolls off me out there. After 2 hours of picking, I tend to give up on the weeds and come in. My herb garden is full of weeds, but it will stay that way until I have a cooler day or have more early morning time.
Kristina - Isn't it a good thing we forget about this weather that's so hard to work outside in when we're enthusiastically planning our gardens and outside projects over winter?? ;o)
