About Me
I live with my husband on a small homestead in Northern Minnesota. Our daughter currently lives in a small cabin in the woods not too far from us.
Our place is located outside a small town and a two and a half hour's drive from the nearest big city. Trips to the city are infrequent, well-planned, and exhausting!
We currently raise chickens and have hives of honey bees. Raising some of our meat and most of our fruits and vegetables is a priority for us; so, along with our birds for meat and eggs, we have fruit trees, berry patches and a huge vegetable garden.
Quilting is my passion, and I could happily spend each day in my quilt studio if I weren't happily spending each day out in the garden. Good thing we have winters up here; Mother Nature helps keep my life balanced.

Dawn - When they do happen, I always think the hens weren't concentrating on what they were doing!
Sue - Don't think I've ever seen a quail egg, but I'll take your word for it!
Laurie - It had no yolk . . . just the white. For some reason, I guess the hen wanted to get it out before everything was ready!
Susan - The way those two eat, we'd have to add a couple more eggs!
Kristina - I wished I had had one of the goose eggs to add to the photo. We think there are about 7-9 eggs that one of the female geese has been sitting on. Only problem, it's still cold here and she's not very consistent about her incubating duties!

We call those little ones fart eggs. I'm not sure if there's a reason...probably don't want to know. :)
We get different sized eggs here too. Our heirloom girls are slightly smaller than the hybrids and then one old hybrid girl lays one the size of a goose egg!
My sis had a run of eggs with no shell; just the soft skin covering.
hoosier - It's always a bit of a surprise to find one in a nest box, isn't it?
gld - Yep, we've gotten a few eggs over the years without a shell on them. Wonder if that means the hen pushed them out too fast? Or was lacking something in her diet? Hard telling! We had several big eggs this winter that I thought for sure were double yolkers, but nope, just a big egg!
I just had this issue today as I cleaned and put in cartons my chicken eggs. Everything from so big the carton will not close to a tiny one that rattles around in carton.
