I had such a well-planned list made for today. Wonder where I went astray?
There's a need to be organized (or-gan-ized . . . hmm, must look up the definition of that word), because on Monday of this week we made a trip to the big city (which takes all day) to leave our Suburban truck to have its back end worked on . . . something about a bad bearing. I also took along both of my sewing machines to be left and serviced as neither of them had been checked over in a coon's age, and I was having minor problems with both of them.
Now we're looking at shooting another whole day going back to pick up the truck and my machines. Okay, so I shouldn't look at it as "wasting" the day certainly. Rather I'm actually thankful we have a reliable place to have good work done on the truck, and the shop where I purchased my sewing machines, many long years ago, does their own repairs right on the premises and is more than fair in what they charge for the services.
However, it's not the best time of the year to be traveling the roads as our temps have been hovering right around freezing with rain/sleet/snow falling which can lead to unsafe driving conditions. Our trip on Monday was on clear roads (thankfully) except for the fact that the deer are out and moving about in numbers right now, and you have to drive with eyes constantly peeled for the critters trying to cross the road . . . usually right in front of you.
I did manage to get a batch of cookies made late this afternoon for my husband who finds it difficult to drive long distances without cookies to sustain him.
Our good ol' hens (new chickies ordered for this spring), all eight of the old girls, have been giving us four eggs a day consistently all winter. Can't complain about that.
Also in the above picture you can see a couple of balls of pie crust I pulled out of the freezer to make a cherry pie for which I've had a hankering. The balls of crust are, as of this writing, still waiting to be made into said pie, but there's a chance that could still happen tonight. Maybe.
What was the first item on that list I made for today? Clear Off Desk Top. How'm I doin'?

Wasn't there some adage about a cluttered desk being the sign of a brilliant, interesting lady???
Cookies. Oh dear. I now crave cookies. Please send 2. Um, make that 6.......I'm no lady when it comes to eating cookies!!!
:D
Our best laid plans oft go awry...or something like that! :) I have to get some baking done this weekend. Soft pretzels and some almond biscotti I think. I had a bunch of things on my to do list today and it's the same thing that was on it yesterday and Monday! Haven't touched it, no guilt! Maybe tomorrow!
Sue - . . . a cluttered desk being the sign of a brilliant, interesting lady??? Oh, yeah. Yep. Yes. Right on. Must be. (Haha.)
Don't cha want a couple/few cookies for your good husband? Come on now, be a good girl!
Rain - Oooo, almond biscotti! I've never made it but have thought about doing so probably a thousand times. And homemade? That must be so good.
Isn't it strange how we can go day after day doing things all day long and never manage to do one thing we can cross off our list?
I'm with Sue - I saw the picture of your beautiful cookies and I want some, too! I know Sue will share...
2 Tramps - You do know Sue, and you're right, she would share!
You made cookies so you are doing fantastic! I barely got the laundry done today and before I knew it the day was over.
I had a schedule all planned out for Sunday and what order to do it in. It went so smoothly. Then, Monday, I couldn't do a dang thing right. Organization, smorganization, it's always Murphey's law.
Ha! Funny your desk didn't get cleaned, but those cookies were worth it. They look delicious! Sorry you have car repairs. Those are the pits. I know for sure.
I think when baking interferes with organization it is a good thing! The cookies look delish. I cook mine to that same stage except for a tray of almost burnt for DH.
Be careful traversing those bad roads.
P.S. I never commented on your desk; if you could see mine, you would understand.
I bet you know where to find anything on it though.
Mama Pea,
Oh forget about organizing your desk....let's get back to cherry pie :P:P
I tell you, it's the lack of sun. Yes, go ahead and blame everything on that. I do. :) Cookies are a natural food for drivers. I think I read that somewhere. Be careful on the road!
Oh boy, those cookies would be so awesome right about now. Be safe on the roads.
You're doin' great! I need to add "freeze pie dough" and "make cookies" to my list. (I'll wait on the "clear desk")
Glad to know cookies are the key to good driving. I can definitely use some good driving.
I hear you when it comes to traveling on winter roads! I've logged in almost 3K miles this winter thus far, much in terrible weather/road conditions. Staying put at home to bake, plan gardens and take care of hubby and dog is pure heaven to me! And when I get home, hubby says, "We need to make a trip to the big city and get supplies". My reply: "Really? You're kidding me, right?" Ugh! -M
Sparkless - Hey, getting all the laundry done in one day is no small task, so give yourself credit for a day well done!
Ruth - Yepper, we just can't schedule all our days the way we want. One day this week we had drop-in company in the morning and then again in the afternoon. Felt like a day where we got nothing done, but of course you can't think of it like that.
Kristina - Hubby has a good friend who is also our mechanic but he's started a part time business along with his regular garage business so he can't do as much of our mechanical work as he would like. For the more specialized stuff, we need to take the vehicles to the big city. Now everything is back in A-1 shape (we hope!) again though.
gld - Oh my, what is wrong with your dear husband? Don't think I've ever heard of someone who likes cookies almost burnt! My hubby is just the opposite. He wants me to take them out of the oven when they're slightly under-cooked!
We made our second and last trip of the week yesterday to the big city and back. All went well, the roads were clear and we avoided all the deer!
gld - Well, it is kinda of an organized mess, but I'm always fearful I'll "lose" something important so feel much better when it's clear!
Sandy - It's Friday afternoon now, and the cherry pie is (finally) in the oven as we speak! (And desk is still a mess! :o( )
Susan - Cookies and a thermos of coffee will get him just about anywhere. Me? I have trouble driving and chewing at the same time. Could never drink out of a thermos while driving!
Laurie - The ones I packed for our trip yesterday are alllll gone, but the batch was big enough that I have some of them squirreled away in the freezer. (Shhhh, don't tell my husband.)
Leigh - I tell ya, when the deer are out near the roads you almost need two people in a vehicle: one to watch and drive and the other one to be a second lookout. They blend in so well with the landscape that it's hard to see them.
You'll probably still have a little ice to worry about on your roads yet this late winter. You be careful. If need be, I'll send cookies. ;o}
M - Almost 3K miles driven over this winter??? I'm assuming all that time on the road was not out of choice? If you do have to make a supply run to the big city, make sure your other half does all the driving!
Don't even bother with the desk. It shows that you are a busy woman! Those cookies would certainly make the drive more tolerable!! -Jenn
Jenn - Can I have the over-due bill companies call you?? ;o}
Hello Mama Pea, I've been reading your comments on ei-ei-omg. finally woke up to the fact that if I love your comments I'm going to love your blog. We had a trip to the city too. Two ferries and a long and winding road in between. Frustrating but the remoteness is what makes our place perfect in every other way.
Hi, Susan!
I now feel like a real pansy complaining about our traveling to the big city. All we have to do is drive on a road for 2-1/2 hours one way . . . not a ferry involved!
Thanks so much for commenting. :o]
