So grab a lawn chair and come watch us paint.
A month or so ago we happened to meet a young guy in the community who is starting his own painting business this summer. He comes with good recommendations so we've hired him to help us with the painting, mainly on the second story.
He'll be able to use his paint sprayer which should make the work go much faster (much, much faster) than me on a ladder with paint brush in hand.
Mr. Painter Guy contacted us yesterday morning and said he'd decided to stay home to do some work on his place because of the day's forecast of 50-60% chance of thunderstorms. It was already dripping at his house. Okay, sounded reasonable as it was gray and cloudy at our place, too.
Papa Pea then decided to go out and get some lawn mowing done while I mulched the asparagus and a couple of garden beds. I also snipped blossoms and what seemed like a thousand runners off the new strawberries. (Vigorous plants they are.)
By then our clouds (and occasional drops of rain) had cleared, the sun had come out and it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day in our neighborhood so the two of us hit the painting project.
This two-story, rather bare, side of the house is going to be perfect for spray painting so Papa Pea did a thorough job of prep work on it. He also did another second story section around the corner.
After having done some priming the day before, I painted the area around the garage door and then worked on the small back porch entryway. (Please note, even though working hard, I'm still able to make a fashion statement. Nuthin' but class when it comes to my wardrobe.)

Painter Guy is due first thing this morning so I'm off now to fix Papa Pea and me a hearty breakfast so we can get in a good day today. Forecast is for sun, sun, sun!

I don't mind painting, but prep work is the pits!
I've been planning on doing our interior next year--and for the most part, it's in good shape. But the windows----ugh.
I think it is replacement time. They're in bad shape. Might help with the propane bill as well.
Hope you get in a fine work day today. I'm stuck inside---very very muggy and buggy outside. Not worth it to me. I'll take a "me" day on the couch with some magazines and a cool drink.
With no garden bounty, I should take a road trip to visit you. And bring a lawn chair too, ha ha! Looks like work, but I know it will look great when it's all done.
Sue - Boy, I'm with you there on disliking the prep work. It takes longer than the actual painting. Don't envy you having to replace windows next year. That's a mess and a half both inside and out! Think of me while sipping and reading on the couch today. I know I'll be thinking of you!
Kristina - We can supply the lawn chair! Bring your handwork, too.
Our house has needed repainting for more time than I care to think about so it will feel soooo good to finally have it done. Plus, I am REALLY liking this new color.
I love to paint. Yeah, not so much the prep work but it has to be done. My husband says if he stands still long enough I would paint him too. Your house will look great after you finish.
Mama Pea,
Great work!!! You both did a great job painting, yes I would leave the second floor for the painter to finish for you. Here's keeping my fingers crossed you have a beautiful day for painting tomorrow.
I do like your paint color and agree with you on the porch area being the same color. Don't get too much sun!!
Hugs,
Sandy
DFW - Isn't it amazing what a coat of paint can do either inside or out? Both changes and freshens up whatever you choose to attack. Yay to all painters! And as for your husband, every man for himself! ;o}
Sandy - It was a gorgeous day today if a little on the warm side when one was in the sun -- 80+ degrees. Our warmest day yet, I think. We got the whole north side of the house completed! And that was the side with the most siding to cover. Whoopee! Papa Pea prepped the areas, I did the fussy little areas and Painter Guy worked wonders with his sprayer. A really good day of progress.
You two really know how to have fun on your summer vacation (snort)! It's going to be gorgeous! And I really, really like the new color.
Painting is what I need to be doing! Thankfully it's not such an ambitious job as yours, but all paint jobs are a relief to be done with as well as improving things hugely.
We're painting our house next year and they're be lots of prep! At least ours is only 1 story:)
Susan - You have no idea how happy I am that both me AND my dear husband really, really like the color! Phew!
Leigh - I find that the hardest part of painting is starting! It always seems like it will be so messy (and, of course, it is) but the results are so worth it!
Nancy - I'm going to be looking for your blog posts about YOUR great painting adventure! One story makes it seem . . . much easier!
Personally I like the porch area the same color as the house. I h-a-t-e to paint, with a vengeance.... but as you said, the results are so worth it. Our home's exterior needs a new paint job too..... maybe next year.... or the next....or.....!!! Yours is looking great! Your 'fashion statement' is right on target for a day of painting. Ya' gotta' dress for the 'occasion' right?! :)
Lisa - Hubby got the railing and floor of the porch stained a dark walnut yesterday . . . which probably made it all look even darker . . . but we both like it A LOT so all is well! I don't mind painting at all, have always done most of it in all of our building/remodeling. Hope to get some more pictures later today or tomorrow for sure.
I love the color you have picked! I think that porch area will look fine the same color. Maybe dress it up with flower pots, and a couple nice rocking chairs?

Thank you! We're very pleased with the color, too. A big improvement! I love the way my couple of potted plants look against the green.
I love the simple overall look you achieved with the paint. And if I may suggest, it might look lovelier with several greens in there to spruce things up. Thank you for sharing this!

Some weeks ago my boyfriend broke up with me due to some issues.
I did everything to get him back but nothing worked.
I contacted a relationship doctor i saw online.
I told the relationship doctor everything that happened,
He promised to fix my relationship.
My relationship was restored just as promised,
My Ex-boyfriend is back and promised never to leave me again
I am the happiest lady on earth,
Never too late to fix your broken heart.
