A Whole Lotta Nuthin'

Here we are on Wednesday of this week, and I truly can't come up with much of interest to share.

It's been a cold last several days with snow falling all day yesterday.  It did melt as it hit the ground since the temp was in the mid-30s.  But with 20-something overnight, we woke to a while covering on everything, had more snow during the day but a smidge of sunshine and above freezing temps kept more of the white stuff from accumulating.

Monday we made a trip to the Big City primarily for an eye appointment for me.  It had been four years from my last check-up (who knew?) and even though I suspected I might need a change in the prescription of my glasses, I didn't.  If I sit to read or do handwork at night, I've been experiencing a bit of blurry vision, but my eye doctor said I should just go to bed rather than straining my eyes when I'm tired (hrumpf) and that I didn't need stronger lenses.  Okay, then.

Our chickens have been out in their pasture every day even in this foul (no pun intended) weather and continue to give us copious quantities of eggs.  Even though you can't see it from a short distance away, there are green shoots of grass coming up among the brown, dead stuff still on the ground from last year, and the chickens even seem to be finding a few bugs and/or worms.  Lots of busy, happy scratching and clucking going on out there at any rate.

This colder weather has thrown me right back into hibernation mode.  It feels so good to snuggle into a comfy bed at night, and it's not so easy to get out of it in the morning when first light presents a damp, gray scene out the window.

We all need to live more with nature.  Throw out the clocks.  Stay in bed when the weather is nasty.  To heck with the To Do List.  Let the chips fall where they may and all that rot.  (Don't you just know how short a time any of us could actually do that?  I start to feel crummy pretty fast when I don't keep some sort of a schedule and have some sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.)

Remind me of that last statement tomorrow morning when I feel like my body is glued to the bed.

Oh my goodness have I been feeling the same! I did a whole lot of nothing this weekend due to the bad weather and let me tell you my body felt worse then when I have to be in the garden all weekend. But I do agree that extra hour or two in bed is so tempting on the cold mornings!

I know what you mean. I get so much more done, when I adhere to a schedule. But those days, when you don't have anything on your schedule, ahhhhh.

Sympathy! It's time for spring, not snow.

We've been back to winter as well, and it's mighty hard to deal with. I've been spending the past two days curled up on the couch with a good book. Though my back appreciates the break, I'd like to get back outside, please.

I actually had to go back to an old style "organizer" last month so I could get back on a schedule and make lists for my day. Ever since moving I have been "off"!

That's why I like camping. We don't take a clock or wear a watch. We just get up in the morning when we want, and go to bed when we want. I think it takes the stress off. Hopefully you'll feel good today. The kids wanted us to plant something on Earth day, and it's too cold here.

Leah - Yes! The "tired" at the end of a day in the garden or working outside feels so good compared to the feeling of knowing you didn't get done what you want to get done!

Laurie - Ha! Those days when I don't have anything on my schedule SHOULD be the days to pull myself up by the ol' bootstraps and go for it! Easy to say, huh?

tpals - I know, this time of year when we really want to get out and going on all that is to be done . . . and the weather pushes us back into winter . . . it's hard to stay motivated!

Sue - I'm so happy to see we are to have sun today. BUT . . . with a high temp of only 30 degrees. Oh well, the bugs aren't bad!!! And it's not snowing. So far. :o/

Erin - Should we be worried about you? You without super-organization and lists up the wahzoo? Where is our Erin??

Mama Pea said...

Kristina - That would be a definite stress reliever, to have even a weekend of no clocks or other time demands. Hubby and I should give some thought to those plans!

Dang, MORE snow?!? I saw my first grasshoppers this week...
I have to have a schedule myself or I feel like I'm getting nothing done. And if I have a schedule and it gets disrupted, well...let's just say it's not a good thing!

Hmmm.....your EYE doctor even said that if you're tired (and your vision is getting blurry) that you should go to bed. Methinks he's got something there :)

Mama Pea said...

Candy - Yeah, more snow. But it IS supposed to warm up this weekend and next week. And it CAN'T stay this cold in May. Can it??

Carolyn - I know, just label me stoopid. The thing is I'm NOT a night owl at all. (I start to fizzle out around 6:30.) But many days the only chance I get for reading or handwork is last thing at night so I push the envelope. Yep. Just dumb.

I am with you - I feel as if I am glued to my warm, comfy flannel sheets every morning. I used to spring out of bed but it seems my spring has been sprung. We've gotten lots of rain and wind and that is not condusive to enthusiasm for anything but a warm corner of the couch and a cup of tea.

Mama Pea,

I with Kristina, camping is just so relaxing and I forget about everything that needs to be done. No clocks, no adult children, no phones.....just pure relaxation with mother nature.

Mama Pea,

I just finished washing all of our winter blankets and put them away. Temperatures keep dropping, no snow here but plenty of rain. It's that time of year where the grass just keeps growing along with those bloody weeds. I was going to pull the tractor out because it was suppose to be nice today......NOT....it's sprinkling hard. Instead, I've made a fresh pot of coffee and I'm sitting in front of the computer.....silly me.

Mama Pea said...

Susan - Yep. Spring and warm weather does not seem to want to come be by either of us this year, does it? We finally have a day of sunshine (and no snow!) but the temp has only hit 40 at noon now. Be patient is our mantra, for sure.

Mama Pea said...

Sandy - No, not silly at all! Once your rain stops, you and those weeds will be spending plenty of time together outside and you won't be able to get near your computer!

I won't complain that our spring weather has gone from 70s to 50s! And to think, I cranked the woodstove today. Hopefully warm spring sun will soon be shining in your part of the world.

Mama Pea said...

Kate - Spring is SUCH an iffy time of year. Such fluctuations that we never know what to expect . . . how to dress or to start a fire in the woodstove or not. They say (but what do "they" know?) our weather will warm up over the coming weekend and be nice all next week. I'm ready! Hope you have nice weather, too.

Snow for you but I've already started mowing my yard. It keeps raining and it needs to be mowed again already.

Mama Pea said...

Hi, Denise - Seems so many of you folks in "the south" that have started mowing your lawns are now getting way more rain than you need. Maybe it's just moisture, in one form or another, falling on us all!

Completely understand the eye frustrations. My eye doctor keeps telling me I have 20/20 vision, and I keep asking her then why can't I see like I used to?!!! I have to use my magnifying glass/OttLite on wheels if I do handwork at night. Hmmm, have to use it during the day too.... and with my reading glasses!!! Adapting to the seasons... weather... isn't that what the pioneer folk did? Smart. Hope you get some Spring relief soon!

Mama Pea said...

Lisa - I know just what you mean. I think my "blurry" vision is bothering me more since I saw the eye doctor last week! My husband has a theory that many aspects of our bodies are affected when the seasons change. And we ARE finally getting a taste of real spring time these last few weeks . . . so maybe once my eyes get used to no more winter, they will adjust better?? I don't know what I'm talking about, and I'm not sure my hubby does either! ;o}
