There are many parts on our driveway where we can now see gravel.
Maybe I can do some planting tomorrow in these garden beds that are free of snow. Ha-ha. Most of them have standing water in them. But it's a start toward when I can plant. We've had so little snow this winter that I think it's going to be an early spring and I'm really going to push the (seed) envelope this year and do some planting in the raised beds as soon as the soil is workable. Then I'll cover the beds with cold frames and see what I can coax into early production. (Like greens. Greens, greens, I need some greens!)
Granddog Tucker had a play date with a much younger doggie friend last Sunday and has had a hitch in his get-a-long for a couple of days, but today seemed to enjoy being out for a walk in the sunshine.
Nothing like a good roll in soft, mushy snow to shake off those winter doldrums (and achy muscles).
I think he's feeling his oats (kibble?) and is happy to see it's not so frigid out anymore. Besides, having his under belly and short little legs covered with mud doesn't bother him at all. But it's time for us to get out the bucket of warm water and old towels before he comes back in the house.
Spring mud season. Ya gotta love it. Or not.

Or not! LOL I decided yesterday that the makers of children's rubber/mud boots do NOT know how deep those puddles are!!! They never make them tall enough!!
I wanted to roll around outside like your dog.... the sunshine felt so good. At this point I will take mud over snow.
Have a blessed day.
I feel like we've gone straight from winter to summer. We had a high of 83 today. I always love seeing your beautiful raised beds.
Can't wait to see what you plant in your raised beds. And I feel like a little roll in the snow, myself. It was in the 80's here today. I sweated!
We've got melting and mud, too. Today our rooster, Fred, decided he and a few of the girls needed to visit our neighbor. The girls came when I called but Mr. Fred was more obstinate - I trudged through so much mud and gook (technical term, lol) that I am stiff. At least I got some exercise...:-)
Cute. I just heard this morning we've had all time record low snow in the mtns. NOT good for fire season :(
Freedom Acres Farm - So true! That's even the case for some adult rubber/mud boots! Ish.
Jen - The dogs look silly enough rolling around as they do . . . wouldn't it be something to see us big people doing it, too?!
The Weekend Homesteader - Thank you, but it will be a while before our raised beds look very attractive! Yesterday was the first day, though, that I had the "itch" to get out there and start the gardening season!
Laurie - In the 80s!? It will be a while before we see that! So much for snow in your area, huh? :o]
De - Did you have to put a little halter on Fred to lead him home . . . or did you have to carry him? (Hee-hee.)
Nancy po - Yep, seems there's always a negative and positive side to everything, isn't there!
Ha ha, love the dog roll. I have to make sure I have rags at the door to start wiping dog paws. The mud is here too.
Mama Pea,
I love spring, hate the mud. It never fails, the mud is tracked into the house by our son and the dog.
Hugs to you and yours,
Sandy
I'm right there with your granddog. Figureatively speaking, of course. Every spring even the mud looks glorious - from afar! :)
It is so wonderful to know that you are finally breaking out of the ice age. And you shame me - I should have started planting our raised beds but I kept waiting for "weather" to come. I have now decided it isn't going to happen so I might as well get started. Like Nancy Po, we are in a drought and I think the latter part of our gardening season will be difficult due to excess heat and lack of water.
3 words about the temps and gardening.... Ditto in De!
Our neighbor (Mark's cousin) tried to pick Fred up which startled the rooster enough that he jumped and flew through a hole in the fence. Then I had to get the confounded thing into the run without all the hens getting out. I got to be all Three Stooges in the process. Someone would have found the whole thing funny, I'm sure. ;-) Hubby will be picking up chicken wire to line the fence this weekend. I don't want to play that game anymore, lol.
Kristina - If one has dogs (or a dog) I don't think there's any way to keep things from getting muddy inside this time of year. It's a lost cause! (Clean snow is much more preferable!)
Sandy - In short order, it gets old yelling at everybody . . . man and dog, doesn't it? ;o)
Susan - I think you probably still have too much snow to see much mud yet!
2 Tramps - So sorry to hear of another area in a drought. That is no fun, nor is it safe in many instances.
Now go get something planted in those raised beds! ;o]
Lisa - Amen! We had more melting today even though it was a gray, very damp feeling day. Kinda typical March weather for us.
When I got back from NH, I could barely get in and out of my driveway for the mud! One of my "save up for projects"....get something down on the driveway.
Tucker looks like I feel, rolling in the mud and snow lol.

Mud or not, I'll take it. We've got temps in the 50s today, which great for melting snow slowly enough we don't have ponds everywhere. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some fencing to do....
