Good / Bad

GOOD - We've been seeing whole nearly whole days of sunshine.
BAD - The temperature barely makes it above zero anymore.

GOOD - It's the coldest first thing in the morning, but warms up from there.
BAD - The coldest is in the range of -20 degrees.

GOOD - I've been able to spend hours before an open fire knitting socks.
BAD - I wake up in the night from a bad dream in which I have to knit warm socks for everyone in the county.

GOOD - Our house is staying warm and cozy.
BAD - We've worn paths from the wood box on the porch through the house to the racks by both stoves.

GOOD - We're eating almost exclusively out of the pantry and freezer stores.
BAD - I'm on my last jar of Bread and Butter Pickles.  (Do you know how much I love Bread and Butter Pickles?  This is serious, people, serious!)

GOOD - Wearing long johns these frigid days makes all the difference in the world and keeps me warm and comfy.
BAD - I don't have enough long johns to make it from Monday to Monday laundry days.

GOOD - I've been wearing old, discarded long johns of my husband's.
BAD - He has approximately 18" more leg length than I do.

GOOD - Food tastes sooo good!
BAD - All my pants are mysteriously shrinking.

re the long-john's problem: I've found that pajama bottoms will work as a good substitute. Stay safe and warm!

LOL!! I'm sure you look adorable with dear Papa Pea's longjohns on. Thank you for the good laugh on that thought. Stay warm, dear lady and enjoy---for soon, very very soon, you won't have one free second to even think!!

DDD - Sweet drams, sweet dreams, thanks for the wish! (Knit, knit, knit, knit . . . )

Clare - I'd have trouble getting my big, ol', floppy, flannel PJ bottoms inside my shrinking pants! ;o]

Sparkless - You said it, and thanks!

Sue - Isn't there the world of difference between the summer and winter seasons up here in da nort' country?? In so many ways?

Mama Pea said...

Tami - Now, I would actually enjoy that. Sizes, please! ;o]

Mama Pea,

Cute post! It's cold here.....granted maybe not as cold as you up there in MN. We're still wearing our long john's too......can't imagine life without them, lol.......

Stay warm, and safe.............oh........and be prepared for sock orders :P

Can't wait to get my socks LOL ! I have pant liners they keep you warm and fit under your shrinking pants! ;o] When I fed this morning it was 1 degrees but more snow, sleet, and rain on the way.

Have a great day!

Oh, lordy, that one about the disproportionate leg size sent me into a snorting fit! Yes, there is good news and bad news about everything - hanging onto one's sense of humor this time of year can keep you from trying to find out where you hid the shotgun and the corn likker...heehee.

Thanks for the chuckle today. I love your socks by the way!

My pants shrink too! I think my closet & drawers have some sort of wrinkle waves that makes it happen.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your cozy photo of warm socks/toes on beautiful quilt in front of the fired-up woodstove! Ahhh, winter and the quiet times it brings! -M

You crack me up MamaPea. It's a know fact all clothes shrink from the cold weather during winter and expand in the warmer months.

Mama Pea said...

Sandy - Yes, those socks were the first ones I knit and I love them! I'm almost done with my second pair . . . can't wait to have them to wear!

Sock orders? Uh-oh, me and my big moooooth! ;o]

M.E. Masterson - You're welcome! (Hee-hee.)

Rue - I have a couple of pairs of tights that I can use, too. And two new pairs of long underwear I haven't even opened. (Don't worry. I shall not suffer!)

We had a beautiful snowfall most of the day today. High was only +10 degrees so you know it was a light snow. Much better than your snow, sleet and rain. Be careful!

Mama Pea said...

Susan - Talk about your legs getting wrinkles in old age!!

Shotgun? Corn likker? How about chocolate? You've heard the saying, "Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker." :o]

Mama Pea said...

Kristina - Thank you, ma'am. I love my socks, too!

Mama Pea said...

DFW - That's the only plausible excuse I can think of!! ;o]

Mama Pea said...

M - I did feel rather cozy the night I snapped that picture. Almost done with my second pair of socks now. Had planned on finishing them today but the new snowfall called for putting down the needles and picking up a shovel!

Mama Pea said...

Lisa - Whew! What a relief to know my clothes will expand as soon as it gets warmer! Thank gawd!

Hate to tell you but we have had several days with above normal temps in the high 70's, of course I will probably be in for a looooong HOT summer, the foggy days are helping to keep the grass green and growing.

Hi Mama Pea, I'm coming over from Susan's at e-i-o-omg's. I've read a couple of your comments and thought, "I have got to check out this woman's blog." I'm glad I did. You have a way with words...I love your blog! I'll be sticking around, if that's ok.

Mama Pea said...

Tombstone Livestock - Uh-oh. I'm already dreading (for you, my friend) what this early hot weather in your area could mean for your summer months. So glad to hear that for now, you have green and growing grass. Tell your livestock to fill up while they can!

Mama Pea said...

Hey, Laurie! Welcome and thanks for commenting. I buzzed over to your blog . . . it's lovely and I can tell it's written by a lovely person. More than happy to have you "sticking around!"

Rue - Get a color that would match a dress or skirt . . . in case we ever wear one of those again!
