The air outside wouldn't be nearly as numbing if it weren't for the frequent high winds. When we venture out to feed and water the chickens, bring wood to the house from the wood shed or any other task that must be done, you can be sure we bundle up to our eyeballs. Even so, we usually have to come in at least once to warm tingling fingers by the stove before we're done.
This past Tuesday and Wednesday were especially brutal with dangerous wind chills. Schools were cancelled on Wednesday which may have been in response of parents to the just-as-bad conditions on Tuesday when there was school.
To cleanse our bodies with a good dose of oxygen and stretch lazy muscles, we've been walking (briskly) out together to get the mail each day. Yesterday there was no wind and we both commented on how balmy a calm 6 above zero felt. More of the cold is forecast to last through next Monday with a warm-up arriving by Tuesday. Yay for that!
Wednesday I finally tackled taking down the holiday decorations in the house and putting up the winter ones. It took me all day and I didn't truly finish until yesterday.
Last night I hung my new shower curtain in the bathroom.
Before putting it up, here it is on the design wall of my quilt room, done (wonky buttonholes and all) and ready to go.
And in place. Sorry I can't get a better picture, but our bathroom is too small. The toilet is directly across from the shower and even standing on the toilet seat, I'm not far enough away for a good shot. (I did try.)
And the rug to match, in front of the sink, that I crocheted.
What's the next quilted project I've gotten a start (barely) on? The above is the "winter" wall hanging I've been using in that special display wall space in the kitchen. I originally made it for a different area before we remodeled the kitchen, and it's really too small for this new space. Therefore, the new piece (I've been thinking about making for two years now) is my current project. With luck, I'll spend some time working on it today!

I have rugs in my bathroom crocheted with old sheets. I do like the look of your rug. Is it made with rug yarn? I can't find rug yarn in stores here any more.

We are being blasted by winds. I'm tired of them. A trek for outdoor time means 20 minutes of piling on layers.
But the winter is sure buzzing by quickly. Hard to imagine January is already almost 1/3 gone. Yikes!
Shower curtain is too pretty for shower...I have generic bought (china made I'm sure) up. I'm jelly as LN would say. It's 24* here in DE with no wind, positively summer like. I was sweating outside and stripped off my coat.

The shower curtain and rug are so pretty! We are "enjoying" temperatures similar to yours this week. This is our second day off school due to the temps and the snow we got yesterday. Stay warm!

Verrrrry snazzy! All those matching accessories....for your bathroom, nonetheless! I think the shower curtain looks better hanging with the "waves" in it than it just looks "as is", which I suppose is good since you actually are using it as a shower curtain. If I went through all that trouble to make something like that I would have it encased in glass and hung on the wall and NOBODY would be able to touch it.
That's the best shower curtain I've ever seen. Love the rug too.

Angela - I started by crocheting an oval rug using strips of fabric and then kind of figured out how to make the rectangular rug out of Aunt Lydia's Rug Yarn. If you wish, you could probably get enough information from a tutorial I did a while back. Go over to my right hand side bar and scroll way down to my Search box and type in Crocheted Rag Rug Tutorial. The four blogs I did (Part 1 - thru Part 4) should pop up for you. I think what I will do though, when I start a new rug (always a new one in my head waiting to be done!), I will do a tutorial on doing the rectangular one with the rug yarn.
Kristina - Yes, I am using Aunt Lydia's Rug Yarn which is no longer available. I got mine on eBay. By watching and waiting, I've gotten quite a stash of different colors at a reasonable price.

We are still getting those blasted winds here, too. You are so right . . . it takes soooo long to get all the gear on you need for even a short foray outside. I feel like I'm wearing them out pulling them on and off!

I'm just counting the blessings in the weather. Remember last year's 40 days below zero? I'm reading Farmer Boy to my school kids and they walked to school in -40. Of course, they weren't embarrassed to wear woolen union suits. :)

odiie - When hubby came in yesterday to warm his frozen fingers once, we were talking about what the old pioneers up here did in the winters. They sure didn't have the "high-tech" clothing options we do. When we had our dairy goat herd, I can remember trying to figure out a way to milk with my choppers on!
Nancy po - I kind of work my Valentine's decorations right into my winter ones. The winter ones don't come down until about April around here! (Well, sometimes March.)
While we can't compare to the temps you all have had, for NC it was down right ridiculous! Monday I got up to 45, by that night it got down to 9, with a windchill of 3. We have finally started creeping back up and are in the low 40's today with rain.
I LOVE your shower curtain! Question for you....did you seal that wood on the bathroom walls? I would love to do something like that but there is next to no ventilation in my bathroom. A fan, but that's it.

Stephanie - Yes, the pine paneling got 2-3 coats of polyeurathane. Also we put an undercoat of paint on the ceiling that is especially anti-mold. Steam rises and all?
